  • Thanks OP!

  • Would a Nespresso machine be in kitchen and dining?

    • Depends on the listing, most are under 'Kitchen & Dining' though.

      • -6

I usually read the packaging so it should be listed under books

        • +2

I'll sell the instruction book to ya for 50% cashback ;)

  • TnCs say no Amazon US. Would purchases via Amazon AU website for items shipped by Amazon US be eligible?

    • +2

Purchases made on amazon.com.au are eligible for cashback (including Amazon Global Store)

Would purchases via Amazon AU website for items shipped by Amazon US be eligible?

      Yes

  • +2

Thanks dealbot, I was able to get my kid’s Jolly Phonics Pupil Books for school at half price from Book Depository.

    • Do you have a link?

  • +3

Still haven't received one of the two orders I made from bookdepository the last time there was this offer. It's been 30 days and customer service is yet to assist.

    • +3

Same, they said it must have been lost in transit, and asked if I would want a replacement

    • +2

Yep, same for me, but they were very quick to reply to my emails and said they'd sent out a replacement. Let's see if it materialises.

    • +3

Same here. It’s been 30 days but haven’t received my order yet.

    • +2

Add me to the list too. They were quick to respond to my email claiming that it must have been lost in traffic and that they would send a replacement but never did. When I asked about the status of the replacement they claimed to have never received my email confirming that I wanted them to send the book 🙄.

So I asked for a refund and I’ll just buy it off the local book shop. Fingers crossed the refund arrives.

    • +2

Interesting I ended up requesting a refund after a month of waiting, visiting multiple post offices and multiple emails to them. A really bad experience and apparently not an uncommon one given the number of responses here. Amazon was very quick to approve the refund tho so maybe they knew about peoples issues with BD.

    • +2

Same for me. They sent me a replacement, which also never arrived, and I gave up and asked for a refund.

    • it has been slow. Emailed them and they replied after 2-3 days without much help. But fortunately for me that the book arrived the following day, i.e. yesterday.

    • +1

      So many similar recent experiences.

This 50% (capped) promo has occurred a few times now, and with all the above negative experiences gives the impression the business struggling with administrators knocking

      • +8

I thought its owned by Amazon so Doubt we'll be seeing administrators any time soon

      • FWIW I had no problem with my order. Arrived well before Christmas.

        • Same, I placed two separate orders to take advantage of the recent cashback deals and both arrived without issue in about two weeks from time of order.

    • +1

same, although the customer service was good, and they are sending another (apparently)

    • +1

Just to throw another voice in,
I’ve received all of my 4 orders placed at various times during various promos but took a good 5-6 weeks for most. Slow but they did come.

    • +1

I received my order pretty quickly last time.

    • Add me to the list, too. It's been 5 weeks and my order still hasn't arrived.

    • I had the same issue, never arrived for months. Ended up getting a refund. They were prompt in replying to the email though.

    • +2

All of my orders from these guys have taken roughly 2 weeks. Never had an issue.

    • Weird, I’ve ordered from BD probably 50 times, they’re slow (which I don’t mind when I’m buying a book way cheaper than elsewhere) but they’ve always arrived.

      • Indeed, they've been around for donkeys and delivered. It seems like the new trend now is that they don't deliver, as by the corroborated testimonials. Some comments about the company possibly going into administration leave reason for concern. Got a refund following up one of these parcels they allegedly sent that never arrived.

  • Thanks OP. Worked fine, Shopback already sent email confirmation.

    • -4

      Shopback already sent email confirmation.

They're working late tonight. Don't they have a life ???

      • +3

        Don't you ever sleep?

        • -2

No, not since the Climate changed.

  • How long does the cashback for Amazon last for, or is it only today?

  • +3

Heh, I was about to buy a book before I went to bed and decided to wait to see if there'd be an increased cashback.

  • Smart watches are classified as electronics, not watches, correct?

  • Clothing, Shoes, Watches, Jewellery 12.00%

Did the permanent rate drop recently? I thought it was always 12% for clothing

  • Good day… first time using shopback, just placed a BD order… do they send some sort of confirmation they've tracked the order placed or something?

    • +2

nm, got the email from them

  • +2

If you're wondering how Book Depository can compete against Amazon, they don't, they're owned by Amazon.

Nothing against Book Depository, I'm happy with my purchase from the last $10 cashback deal, just don't get excited like I did that there's finally some decent competition for Amazon in the online book selling space.

    • +4

I must have missed that memo (Amazon owning Book Depository) - seems to have been the case since 2011 too 😬

    • +3

Even after the discount, Ive bought books cheaper from Amazon recently.

      • +1

Book Depository are also an Amazon reseller, but their own site seems to have a bigger range than Amazon.
I'd check both before I made a purchase though.

    • +2

If you're wondering how Book Depository can compete against Amazon

The book depository are quite different to Amazon's book division. They do print-on-demand, it wouldn't surprise me if the majority of their books only exist as data files, and they only print them as required.

That means they don't need a huge warehouse for the "20 million books" they have available, quite a cost saving.

The book I just ordered says "ships in 2-3 days", which gives them time to print it. Or source it from another publisher, so either way they don't need much warehouse space.

      • +3

Makes sense that they have a different business model, otherwise Amazon would just absorb them and close the business down.

      • I've bought some books not from BD that are genuine but have print quality issues, but BD must have a great printer if they print on demand, because the books I got from them have good print quality.

        • Nah, they just source from wholesalers, like brick and mortar book stores do when someone asks for an item that is not already in stock. Hence the 2-3 days.

    • +1

booktopia is quite good as well. You can get free shipping for all orders through booko.

  • The click through from Shopback to Book Depository is not work for me (tried on different browsers). Anyone else having this problem?

    • +1

Mine clicked through. You can also try installing the SB google chrome add in

  • +1

    Will this work for preorders?

    • +1

I ordered a book from BD that isn't out until Feb and received the cashback confirmation within 30 mins if that helps

Love a good Book Depository Cashback :) Encourages me to read more (away from the screen as well)

  • just to confirm, this isn't just for new accounts, right?

    • +1

No I've had collected 4 times already.

  • ordered a few things off book depository. bit slow with some orders but arrived none the less.

despite being owned by amazon i think the business is completely separate, including the stock warehouses as i've had dodgy fake print books arrive from amazon fba but all book depository books seem genuine publisher quality print.

i guess amazon just bought book depository for the sake of the customer base?

    • Probably more to do with killing competition

  • Nice, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot works out to be ~$60.72 with this.

  • Is this all books?

    • think so. put you would probably aim to buy a book you need that is somewhere around $20 to make the most benefit.

  • what's the cashback for a bed frame? 12%?

which category is the bed frame classified under?

can i use Amazon egiftcard for this cashback?

    • Not 12%

Either home (8%) or more likely other (4.5%)

Giftcards are fine won't cancel cashback eligibility

      • Amazon live chat says bed frames are in the Home category

  • Bought 2 books. Cheers Chibot!

  • +1

I need another one of these deals please

  • My books arrived earlier this week but shopback still hasn't tracked my cashback

  • After it tracked, shopback showed that cashback for book depository would be available by 10 Feb 2020. In the last few days, it has been changed to available by 27 March 2020.
