  • why not use a yellow LED or a red / green pair instead, shouldn't cost more than $2

    • A yellow LED or red/green pair would produce just yellow without the option for white. This is a proper medical instrument that goes a little beyond $2 flashlights that break after a few uses.

This item looks like it's used for light setting resins so that they become hard. It's probably not what most lay people would need.

  • What's a dentist doing on here?

For all the aspiring amateur dentists out there….

    try ozdentalbargain.com.au instead :)

  • Maybe it can be used as a normal headlight. What's the deal with yellow light?

Webpage does not display properly. I tried both IE and FF.

    • The filter means the field is only illuminated with yellow, meaning the operator won't set the composite resin ("white filling" material) while looking at it - at least, it won't set as fast!
Pretty much all light in the visible spectrum will trigger the setting reaction, but it's the higher end that does it fast enough to be useful.
So yeah, no, the CR filter isn't to set it, it's to illuminate without setting. Considering how front heavy some loupes can be, I think I'd go without the filter and just turn on the normal overhead light while working hahaha… not like you'd be putting CR in somewhere that's hard to access. :\

The link worked last night, but they did bork the pictures… think they fixed it by today lol.

If you want a normal headlight, there are plenty of much cheaper and brighter options elsewhere. This is only really useful for those who own loupes and want to work on things within a metre of them.

  • anyone know how strong the lights are?

i don't think there's much point putting weight onto my loupes if the light doesn't improve on the overhead light?

    • Hi Goolo,

The light is 1 watt. If you are after a brighter light, you may be interested to look at our Professionals LED range offering 3watts at 70,000 Lux.

  • i'm a dentist and i would be interested….if you had more details on the website! how strong is the light in lumix ?what does the rechargable battery look like and how long does it last?! Details!

Goolo: its not just the strength of the light that matters, but the exact positioning, with clip on lights you can forever be focused on to the area where you are working, in particular when you use loupes. Makes a difference! now if only my orascoptic ones didn't cost 1500$….

    • I think you meant lumen, Lumix is a camera brand. :)

    • Hi Maulmonk,

As above, we offer a brighter range of headlights (Professionals) at 3 watts and 70,000 lux; compared to the OptiSpec's 1 watt LED Headlight.
Unfortunately we do not have an image of the battery at this stage and will take take this on board to upload more pictures soon. The OptiSpec Battery has a dimmer option on it to allow you to adjust the brightness as necessary and has a charge life of approximately 4-6 hours, compared to the Professionals battery at 6-8 hours.
