Thanks OP couldn’t help myself when it’s record low.
this set is hella fun if a little sluggish. it's still the fastest technics remote controlled crawler set.
Not the fastest ever, but definitely the fastest Lego RC set released in nearly the past two decades.
The really old Lego RC Race Buggies (this, this and this) from the "Lego Racers" series of the early 2000s with the legendary RC Race Buggy motor (which was only ever featured in those sets weirdly enough), were much faster than the 4x4 X-Treme Off-Roader.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3YuKVhRn5h8It's such a shame they never used those motors for other sets. Those RC cars were great.
Not sure I'll add this one to my collection. Still seems expensive for a basic 4x4. Going to get the land rover instead
on price per piece is pretty bad for this considering it not even licenced.
licensed?
A licensed set based on a real-life vehicle (for which Lego licenses and pays for the use of the vehicle's trademarked likeness), like the Lego Technic Land Rover Defender, Lego Technic Mack Anthem or the Lego Creator Ford Mustang.
Price per part is a useless metric for anything with electronics, huge parts like those wheels etc.
You can't say a 1x1 brick is worth as much as a motor.

It's definitely got potential and could either be cannibalised for parts for an RC MOC (as you can't get these new Smart Hub/Control+ motors anywhere else apart from the Liebherr R 9800) or easily upgraded by swapping out the Smart Hub/Control+ motors with BuWizz or SBrick motors to make a seriously fast RC truck or just a basic RC platform and chassis you could add a new shell to.
The true independent suspension/planetary drive is something Lego hasn't implemented in a Technic set in a disappointingly long time, and it is amazing how much of a difference that makes to any RC vehicle to give it life-like movement as opposed to fixed axles, but as has been mentioned to death about this set, it's still just too slow (even though it's better than the old PF motors). The suspension and planetary drive does also mean that with 3rd-party motors like BuWizz or SBrick, this thing could take a decent amount of abuse at high-speed/impact and come out okay, compared to the usual Lego Technic "off-road" vehicles that are incredibly fragile and flimsy.
License to drive baby.
Price dropped to $219. Cancel and reordered.
Wow. Thanks. Smashes my deal! No 28d, dammit
