Windscribe VPN is a new and creative two in one privacy solution that allows you to experience the internet as it should be free from prying eyes and restrictions.

The Internet today is like exploring the ocean, opportunities and things to see are endless, but most countries block access to sites for both residents and travelers. Also, web companies monitor your social network activity.

Still sitting on life time free 50gb that was posted on Ozbargin manyyyyyy years ago that has served me well

I'm on the 20gb free for life then they upgraded me to 60gb for free because I wasn't using it enough!

  • Currently on the free 50GB Free but how to check when it will expire?

    • Read somewhere that the 50GB is most likely in perpetuity.

  • What server do people use? I find most unusable due to slow speeds.

    • Windflix

      • That's only for paying customers though, right?

    • Just got 86.8mbps download to their Hong Kong Server and 92mbps to their LA server (both free servers). Ping is around the 200ms which is to be expected though.

Go to Settings —> connections, "display latency in ms"
look through all locations, as the app will sort by the largest value in the group
"Best Location" isnt actually the best

Save the lowest value/s as your favourite

My dl speeds went from abysmal to fantastic

      • You can also turn off winscribe once your torrent client is downloading, speed will increase back to local speeds.

It's pretty good, nice browser extensions too, can even watch US Netflix with it using Nvidia Shield, but Prime stopped working recently, it detects the VPN.

    • Hi Ringu, mind telling us which server you use for Netflix US?

      • Hi, it's just called Windflix US, then once I connect to it the message says "connected to New York Radio Hall".

    • +1

      That's the paid version, right?

      • I don't use it with the iPad, I use the Android app on Nvidia Shield.

    • Ringu - Can you please send me a message outlining how to watch US Netflix with Nvidia Shield please?
I'm a newbie at all of this and need a bit of help from the pros lol :) Would like to do what you've described but from my PC. Thank you :)

      • You need to install the Winscribe App on your Shield, then from locations select the US flag with Windflix US text under it, then wait for it to connect and go to your Netflix app on the Shield and launch that.

  • PIA expired last year which I only used it to access torrent sites, this is perfect!

  • Great as they have an app for Android TV, pairs well with my mi box

Does this work well in China?

    • I tried using this in China (free account so only had access to subset of servers) and it didn't work on the WiFi at Guanzhou airport. Keep in mind this was in Jan 2018 and almost 2 years has passed so they might have improved since then, though at the time other providers were able to work in China.

      No.

    • Yes, but it depends on what carriers network or WiFi you are using. It may or may not work.

    • Yes from my own experience.

    • Yes it does. I’m in China right now. On my 60GB free for life plan.

    • Yes, works well in Shanghai.

VPN's come and go in China. I stopped using Windscribe for about half a year because nothing would connect, so moved to ExpressVPN, then Lantern. When those two stopped working, Windscribe magically started working again lol!

    • VPN is a hit and miss in China (depending on "events" happening there or else where). My free Windscribe stopped working even though it was fine before. I then used ThunderVPN, it is free, unlimited and no registration required but slow and with lot of caveats. My preference nowadays for travelling to China region is to just buy a prepaid China Unicom (HK) data only sim. No need for VPN in China if you use this sim (worked for me about 3 months ago).

Normally discounted to about AU$35-40 delivered eg. check ebay

  • signed up to 3 year deal with them about 18 months ago. its been great but my only regret is not getting a lifetime deal as they dont sell them anymore!

    • Do not feel alone, I made the exact same choice. Did you purchase this as well?

    • Glad I'm not the only one with this problem ;_;

    • haha, same, got the 3 year pro unlimited plan, 1 year left

  • I found a lot of the (free) UK servers had been blacklisted by BBC iView/ Dave/ UKTV - always a pain to find one that worked.

  • just gave it a try, looks like it's excruciatingly slow.

They just sent out an email for their Pro account @ $20USD for 20 Months if anyone is interested.

    • How does a one dollar per month yearly deal end up as 20 dollars?

      • You get 20 months ?

        • I got 20 months. Was a confusing checkout page indeed.

If you want to use this VPN in China, save your time. It does not work over there. I tried it out last month.

    • Weird, I can use it in China.

      • Same, works perfectly here.

  • Website down??

  • Thanks for this. Just signed up.
Unfortunately, they don’t have a free Australian server - was looking for something to use Optus Sport with while travelling overseas.

"If you're not paying for a product, you are the product"

I have mixed feelings about free VPNs. Some offer free to hoard your data. Not saying this one will, but I'd be careful with free VPNs.

    • This is not the case with Windscribe. Plenty of articles out there.

    • +1

i worry about that with the paid ones too

      how can you really know?

  • +1

I use the free version for accessing torrent sites 👍
