PUMPUP

Hi all,

After receiving many messages about the new Huawei flagship that has everyone talking, Mobileciti has a deal on the new Huawei Mate 30 Pro. Previously the Mate 30 Pro was available to only those who have received an exclusive registration code from Huawei, however we've just received a allocation that is available to the public.

To take advantage of the current eBay Plus coupon, for the final price of $1399, you'll get a Huawei Mate 30 Pro, Freebuds 3 Wireless Earbuds & UBTech Truckbots STEM Robot Kit. That's a massive saving, as the combined RRPs of $1599 (Mate 30 Pro) + $299 (Freebuds) + $189 (UBTech Robot) total $2087.

Please keep in mind that the Huawei Mate 30 Pro does not come with Google's apps on-board, and uses Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) instead of Google Mobile Services (GMS).

To get the deal, please add the Huawei Mate 30 Pro (Space Silver), Huawei Freebuds 3 (Black or White) & UBTech Truckbots Kit to cart. The discount will be applied at checkout, and then apply coupon code PUMPUP to reach the final price. While stocks last, very limited quantity available for this deal.

No GMS, what's the point to buy? real huawei fans?

    • Huawei becoming apple

    • +5

There are ways to sideload it. Funnily enough, google is ur friend to achieve this.

      • +1

I doubt Google wanted the ban.

      • +2

Careful. There WERE ways to sideload it. They stopped working. Not sure if there is a new way yet.

      • I'm just going to repeat here:
For security reasons, do NOT use that method that everyone is doing to get around the ban. Don't even buy this phone if you want to use Google Services.
You're setting a random Chinese website as your remote phone administrator, which means they have full access to your phone's details, logs, history, everything you do including your banking and payments.

        https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2019/10/the-internets-horrif…

        • +2

Exactly. Honestly if Gms is important to you, don't buy this. Buy one of the many, many others that supports it.

        • Yup read ur comment below mate, and uts true.

Doesnt bother me that much, i dnt do financial transactions in my mobile phone.
This phone has topnotch build, cam, speakers, screen, n batt life.
For some people, like u, they shud avoid this.

        • -3

YOU ARE REALLY STUPID if you believe what you just said. You are setting a random Chinese website as your remote administrator WHEN YOU HAVEN'T EVEN SYNCED YOUR CONTACTS YET, let alone any fictional banking apps that you have no way of installing safely in the first place.

After installing GMS, simply deactivate the administrator and start using your phone with contacts synced, downloading banking apps etc.

No one, except you apparently, would start using the phone - that's manually loading all their banking apps, contacts etc then decide to install GMS.

          • @dotJaz: How incredibly stupid do you have to be to not realise they can load literally anything onto your phone afterwards, and still spy on you without knowing. Get the fck out

No one, except you apparently, would start using the phone - that's manually loading all their banking apps, contacts etc then decide to install GMS.

Lots of people will do that, after realising they dont have google. You make false blanket statements and you're also stupid with nothing to back it up.

      • No streaming services like Netflix will run on it.

        • I never watch netflix on my phone.

    • they will help you install gms, map works no issues, just google pay have problems.

  • +1

I don't know what all this means.

Does this mean no Google Play store? No Google Maps. Youtube, Gmail etc?

    • +6

Yes, no google store, no YouTube

    • +1

No google play, No google maps. No google Pay. no sure how the NFC will work with bank apps.(i dont think big banks will make apps for huawei store)

For Youtube and gmail, you can at least have third party apps.

    • +4

Means $1400 for a gimped phone

    • See Mark365 comments, maybe just not Google Pay

  • +8

I cant imagine life without Google apps like Youtube and Maps😱.

    • +2

Same. I use maps more than the actual telephone.

      • -2

Google is your friend. So you should know why your point is completely invalid. GMS is not preloaded, but not unavailable.

  • +33

I did some background reading when the debacle began. The loss of GApps means much more than just the Google Apps. Google also had something called SafetyNet which verifies your phone signature against the signature they have in their cloud to make sure your phone has not been tampered with or rooted. Huawei phones losing this certification could potentially have issues with payment apps where the apps usually checks whether your phone has been rooted, etc.

Getting GApps back onto the phone is not hard, but convoluted and involves you putting some trust in xda developers.

I did consider getting the Mate 30 Pro before, but given that the phone is basically crippled when in this part of the world means that I would probably not get it unless it is dirt cheap, although reviews of the phone have all pretty much said the phone is one of the best phones ever made.

My information could be wrong, please do your own research.

    • Thanks for explaining

    • no reason why Huawei won't be able to get full Google certification again once Trump loses next year or gets kicked out.

      • +7

I doubt it. IMHO, I feel that the general sentiment in America is that Trump is doing a good job as president, even though the media openly mocks him all the time. If I am a betting man, my gut feeling is that Trump is more likely to win a second term mainly due to the fact that the Democrats do not even have a strong candidate to go up against him. I am not saying this because I am a Trump supporter or anything, I actually don't really care who wins in American elections.

The second reason is some xda developers have looked under the hood of the Mate 30 Pro and found that Huawei seem to have baked in their own superuser permissions, probably to circumvent standard Android permissions. Why Huawei did this is anyone's guess, but I doubt Huawei will get off USA's security blacklist anytime soon.

        • -2

The second reason doesn't make sense. Think heavy weight Huawei suddenly deciding to not become #1 phone maker in the world by turning their back on official Android altogether or relying on half baked and hacked and slashed version of ASOP from now on. They might as well close their phone business.

          • -3

@FeZZa21: They are backed by Chinese government though, so they can still sell their phones in China and some "China-influenced" countries in Africa.

        • Care to provide ANY evidence?

          • @dotJaz: Sure. Please do a Google search for "huawei mate 30 pro androidmanifest.xml". A few bloggers have noted that there are some "suspicious" Huawei specific permissions. I am not suggesting Huawei is doing anything wrong, perhaps it is put there to enable Huawei phone users to install GApps easily as you need superuser level permissions to install Google Play Services, who knows but it is a bit suss.

      • I really can't see Biden/Sanders winning the next election. Fake news 😂

        • Not those old farts that are a few years away from dropping dead, their saviour will be warren. Whether she wins or not is a different story.

      • +2

Trump is not going out, with present climate he will only increase his tally. Republican hardliners are only increasing in resolve every time a folly of his is uncovered , not happy Jan. But it is what it is

    • It may well be the best phone ever made but it is also one of the ugliest.

    • I think your spot on.

I bought a phone that ended up being tampered and rooted. So it doesnt have access to banking apps, netflix and payment. Can only do it through browsers.

      • If you still have the phone, I believe you just flash it back with the manufacturer rom and it should be ok. You just need to find the rom for the specific region of the original rom.

        • I was able to flash it back to the original which fixed some underlying issues. But it's still unlocked.

Some XDA users said it may be a bad idea to relock it

  • 23% off on the phone alone, and stacking with the $150 voucher would be nice. Shame I have no need for earbuds or the STEM toy. Could have been a good experiment in de-Goggling my life with this phone.

    • +2

You'd just be replacing google spying on you with China….

      • +5

Its not about being spied on, that's a given regardless of any company or what ever phone you use. It is about removing my dependency on a monopoly and using alternative services to Google.

        • +2

          Wildly off-topic :
For de googling and alternate apps, if you’re interested, take a look at http://e.foundation (/e/ rom).

Based on my recent experience, without all the tracking bloatware a 3 year old lg v20 performs better than most flagships

      • Google provides spied data to your government, so it ACTUALLY can do harm to you. Your data is useless to Chinese government other than being part of big data.

    • Surely you'd just sell the stem and buds and make your savings even higher.

  • Same price on there website… saves the need to have Ebay Plus.

  • +3

Finally it's here. Can't wait to have the Mate 30 PRo. I couldn't be happier with my P30 PRO. This one looks even better.

    • +3

I have the P30 Pro aurora, waiting for the Huawei Mate X although it has the exact same camera specs as the P30 Pro :-)

    • +6

In a lot of respects, this is a downgrade to the P30 Pro. Doesn't have the periscope 5x lens of the P30 Pro and no GApps is a killer. Honestly imo, they really shouldn't be selling at these prices if they aren't Google certified anymore.

  • +1

    Any deal on P30 pro?

  • +7

no Google apps? Bye Hua Wei

    • +2

This is a very opinionated review. Google is good but it can be replaced.

      • If i could access apple map via andriod, I can live in andriod without google.
But there is not such a good alternative map app in andriod.

        • +2

          Tried Here map?

          • +1

@jekyxmj: I can only find 'here we go - city navigation' from Google store. With 10mil download. I assume that's the one.
            Looks decent too me

  • +6

Love my Mate20 pro, but no way would I ever buy or reccomend this without Google support, it would be like being one of those people who were unfortunate enough to buy a windows mobile a few years ago.

  • +1

I doubt those voted have brought it, just a gesture. If it is cheap enough I may get it for camera but $1400, no way I would.

  • -6

if it cost $200 then I might even consider it

  • +7

    Thanks lyl

Amazing phones, such a shame about the trade war / sanctions imposed on Huawei. It's going to be a problem with the upcoming P40 Pro too which is said to be similar to the Mate 30 Pro with the amazing Cine Lens + a Periscope lens like the P30 Pro but possibly 10X instead of 5X. It too will be a great phone few outside of China will buy.

Huawei in my opinion are way better than any other Android phone for photography, and in the case of the Mate 30 Pro, videography too. Maybe Samsung will catch up with everyone else next year.

Here's hoping a deal is coming to give Huawei GMS access again.

    • +2

Yep, my Mate 20 Pro makes my wife's S10 look like a Nokia 3310.

    • +4

Totally agree, used iPhone for about 8 years. I will never want to buy overpriced iPhone since I have my P30 PRO, such a beautiful phone, amazing cameras too.

      • +2

Its purely because people are too lazy to leave their comform zone.
Apple just uses that laziness to make money.
Iphone is a still great product, it just overpriced!!

  • -1

Extremely expensive, whats this… $50 off?

No google apps either. Had it come with them, it sh*ts on any Apple or Samsung flagship.

    • +1

Same or similar price to release day? Yeah I agree. Lack of legit way to install Google apps, this needs to be a bigger discount to be considered a deal. I don't down vote truths like others do here.

  • As previously mentioned, it is easy to install Google apps… According to XDA forum, Google Pay is the only app that is not working. Maybe a few bank apps… (Safetynet)
I really like my Huawei P20 Pro but I paid less than 800.00 for it about 18 months ago… The hardware of the Mate 30 Pro is amazing but I don't really feel compelled to spend 1,399.00 on this phone right now. I'm not enjoying the trade war… :(

Finally, that's the normal price for the phone + freebuds, nothing amazing unless you want that robot.

I have one of the 200 codes that Huawei gave to buy the phone but I've never spent more than 1k on a phone anyway… Huawei should have been more aggressive in terms of price because my code expires tomorrow and I am not buying a phone without Google for this price.

Mobileciti probably has a few in stock that no one will buy (because it is supposed to be restricted to the 200 fans that got the code), but I imagine they have more phones than people interested, even when they have the code, like I do (expires tomorrow but with this offer on eBay the code is no longer required).

Initially, it was 1599.00 and when I used the (required) voucher I'd get a 200.00 discount. If the 200.00 discount was over the 1399.00, I'd be thinking about that: Mate 30 Pro + Freebuds, for 1199.00.

    • +1

Are you referring t9lo the dodgy Chinese app that bypasses a number of important security layers?

      • Yes, LZPlay

Everyone who is willing to root, install apk and use developer options or ROMs should be aware of the risks… I'm saying that's possible, not that's perfect or safe. People are free to make decisions in life…

One could argue that's better than the bloatware we find in other smartphones.

  • +5

Still too expensive. No Google Pay is a pain as well. I'd say $1000 without all the bundled garbage is a good start.

  • As usual, 100% AU stock, GST Tax Invoice with ABN (TRS eligible), and 24 months local Huawei AU Warranty. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any concerns.

Would need to declare it and pay GST coming back in though, lol

    • if you're travelling by yourself.. otherwise, family pooling.

      • Fair point
