How are they allowed to specify how I use the data? How dare they try and imply we can't hotspot the data…

    • I see few telcos doing this. However, tweaking the Access Point settings may work-around this restriction. Also, AFAIK, amaysim does not block Hotspot. The T&C looks like more of stressing on not using it for commerical purposes. But yeah, these days personal use in a home is as much :-D

      • Yeah, they all have a fair go policy that basically says they're allowed to deem if it's being used in a manner that they don't allow. So basically it's up to their discretion…

It's literally because they don't want to lose money on home internet connections… Very anti-consumer.

        • Just observed this deal is for existing users as well. Also for existing users on a lower plan who upgrade to $40. I'm sure these existing users obviously use Hotspot. Hence, I think it has no hotspot restrictions.

          • @djoz: "Just remember the mobile data included with this plan is for smartphone use only and cannot be used as a home or mobile broadband replacement."

Not saying they can actually restrict hotspot use. But if they deem you're not abiding by their 'fair go' policy, then can cancel your service. That's up to their discretion. I don't think that's very consumer friendly whether or not they actually have the ability to prevent hotspots or not.

    And $25 cashback through ShopBack.

    • given that shopback claim is 75 days, do you have to stay with them the entire 75 days for cashback to be valid? or can i use it for 1 or 2 months then cancel and also get shopback cashback?

No point in unlimited data if the reception is crap, i changed to amaysim from vodafone for my iPad and the connection is shocking. On my normal bus I had about 4-5 times the data has dropped out. Had no issues like this on vodafone pre-paid

Guess might be better for some

So can your point by summed up by saying? "I've found on my commute that Vodafone coverage is superior to Optus coverage, check the coverage maps before switching to Optus."

But optus prepaid doesnt have the issue

  • Anyone tried the sim in a modem?

    • +1

I have a couple of friends that have used it in a Huawei 4G modem no issues. They don't seem to have a whitelist of devices at all, so i assume they'd check at some point the devices that are connecting and possibly take action. Or they just say that it's smartphone only, with no way to substantiate that fact.

Hotspoting works fine, I was able to pull down 46gb+ on the 1st day, while not used as a home broadband replacement, is a really excellent for someone looking for a data intensive mobile broadband service.

  • Anyone know roughly how long it takes to activate the plan? I already have an amaysim sim and number, although it's not active (can only receive calls and texts)
