Same price here too. Looks like you can get $5 off by purchasing through the eBay mobile app with code PRONTO5.

A generic m.2 pcie card, even one that accepts two drives, costs a lot less. In a "PCI-e SSD" such as NVME, there is no need for a logic controller, M.2 supports PCIe 3.0 interface, so there is simply a mapping directly to the PC PCIe form factor.

The QNAP one above is not for NVME but for SATA, it has an integrated fan and will have been tested on QNAP systems, but its normal price is 10x. Not really sure what justifies that other than ease of use and you have some old SATA m
    2 drives lying around.

I don't even need to look to know you're confusing NVMe M.2 with SATA M.2 (and so is OP). Hanging any number of SATA M.2 drives off a PCIe slot does need a controller. In the example you've given, SATA M.2 will be connected via existing SATA ports; the card will not add any.

Agree, but javing said that you can get cards with the marvell controller that allow you to run 2x sata m.2 and 2x regular sata drives so you can create your own raid or even hybrid drives. They are about $40, ive run them for a few years just fine.

      • So can I put a m.2 860 evo onto this card, slotted into a PCIE x16 slot running at x4 and expect it to work or will I need to connect to a SATA III port on my motherboard?

    • From that product page
"Please note that for M key SSD there must be a 2.0 or higher PCI-E 4X socket."

Does this mean that if I'm running a M key SSD it will interface through the PCIE channels and I won't need to attach to a SATA port?

Wondering why the listing only says SATA, the QNAP product page https://www.qnap.com/en-au/product/qm2-m.2ssd only says SATA, but above deal there is a mention of NVMe.

    • If you scroll down on the Qnap page there are lots of different versions - some are SATA, some NVMe

Lol.. where else they suppose to work in for a PCI-E half height card? Your laptop? Oh.. you mean the other other fruit brand?

He means that it works not just in the qnap NAS devices for which this is targeted…
