Wish I had a mate that got me $150 presents.

On second thought, wish I had any mate.

    • 30th b'day and he's paying for dinner for me and my partner… was supposed to be a 100 dollar limit (i figure dinner out will be at least 60 bux) but when i saw what was on offer for 145!

    • +1

I'll be your mate! But only if you buy me one of these 3D bluray players :P

  • which one can play all mkv files?

    • the one i have can play MKVs and network stream apparantly.

      • which model?

        • +1

link in OP and on the receipt…
          BX580
          does MKV etc.

      • Anyway to check if it can be made region free?

        Google results weren't promising.

        • there where four on clearance in total… 2 lgs, 1pana and 1 samsung… (samie and pana where 3d players as well)

  • +1

mate good job on mashing up the photos together :) and of course good deal :)

    • thanks, just wish i had got one of the pana as well…cruddy black berry camera, cant make out the moddels even at full size.

  • I have a Samsung series C blu ray which is great but unfortunately no "Smart Hub", uses old Samsung "Internet@TV" feature. The one advertised here is a D series (2011 model) which should have the "Smart Hub", if it does that is great value!

    • no, its the c series, more specifically the C5900 which is an update to the older C5500. The only major difference between the units is 3D capability. see my post below or model numbers of available players.

  • What is the Panasonic model?

    • soz, only know the LG one cause i bought it… didnt take note of the other ones as I'm not sure if they did MKVs

    • You can always ring the store, and ask them the model details etc.

    • I'd like to know the pana model number too. if it is a pana 3d model as the OP says then it is either the old DMP-BDT300 or the newer entry level DMP-BDT110. Both of these would be great value at $145, especially the latter which has iphone control. Unfortunately my store only had the older 2D DMP-BD60, and that too at $165.

  • Damm. I paid 219 dollars for LG BD660 with exactly the same features , but mine is without a wireless. I dont mind, it is an older model, as it does exactly the same thing, which mine does.

Only few things added in new models:
    BD Live
    auto update of firmware
    WMV playback.

  • !!!

  • Just a little late, my BR player blew last night and I went and brought the Boxee Box by D-link, if only I had seen these at such low prices especially with built in Wifi. Good Find

Swung by Parramatta Myer earlier today, here's what they had on offer (I have linked sites with specs for those that need 'em):

Samsung BDC5900 - $145 (my pick of the bunch)
    http://www.samsung.com/au/consumer/tv-audio-video/blu-ray-dv…

Samsung BDC5500 - $132 (almost same as above unit but without 3D)
    http://www.samsung.com/au/consumer/tv-audio-video/blu-ray-dv…

Panasonic DMPBD60 - $165 (good but old now)
    http://www.panasonicatwork.com.au/products/details.cfm?objec…

    Toshiba BDX2000 - $105 (ok and old)
    http://www.whathifi.com/review/Toshiba-BDX2000

Panasonic DVD Home Theatre SC-PT480 - $195 (good and with upscaling and 5.1 speakers!)
    http://panasonic.com.au/Products+Archive/Home+theatre/Home+t…

DGTECDGHD3040 Set top box - $45 (with usb PVR feature)
    http://www.dgtec.com.au/en-AU/products/set-top-boxes/BC76191

    • Just to follow on from my previous post, I had a quick look online, and the BDC5900 has a very simple and successful DVD region free hack as posted here: http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks/samsung-bd-c5900/11124

Of course not region free for blu ray discs however as these drives cannot be soft modded - they would require costly ICOS modchips to be installed just like any other BR player.

  • eh, what's a 3D blueray players? Do you require a special player to play 3D movies? :/

    • +1

yep… (and a special TV/Projector as well as glasses (not sure if they have released ones that dont reaquire glasses yet))

      • thanks wisc :)

  • No samsungs at roselands, grabbed display model at hurstville (3D)

  • I would pay another $55 and pick up the new release Samsung BD-D5500.

  • I have the LG one that you linked to, it's awesome.

Plays MKVs flawlessly, however, anything in HD will not stream over WIFI G. If you don't have a WIFI N router you will have to play your 720p and 1080p MKV files through USB.

    Awesome unit.

    • I have Latest LG BD660 and it also does not stream for High Defination movies or 3d ones.

  • Thanks a lot. I got one today for 139.50. Today they had 10% off sale. The sales girl was not ready to discount the price for demo unit. Anyway awsome unit thanks
