It was true, but you turn off those options. They may have fixed some of that with the latest operating system update though.
I wouldn't not buy it because of that. Everything else is great. The camera is killer for the price. I got the Global version for Geekbuying.
yeah it's true. A lot of the stock apps have ads on them. You can turn them off but it's not as easy as it should be.

I bought mi 9 about 6 months ago. It works great until the screen showing greenish tints. All my pictures look shrek and princess fiona skin tone. :(
Did you overclock the display? People complained of this after applying the overclock
