Seems like a really good deal considering the specs and the 1080p screen!

  • +5

    an actual decent laptop deal!

  • +3

Had my eye on this for a while, but apparently the screen is not good - no ips

    • +1

oh man…IPS makes a huge difference IMHO (from personal experience!)

      • Yeah such a pity. If they had put a better display and larger battery, I'd happily pay another $200

        • +1

spot on…that battery will kill it for any power user (not gaming either)

    • +3

We have this laptop at work. The screen is awful, especially the viewing angle.

  • +1

    doesnt post to tasmania??? seriously??

    • +32

      It’s over seas…

      • +3

        Over sea

    • +13

Bing Lee doesn't ship internationally ;)

    • +25

      Australia only mate.

    • +3

how about NT? no shipping over sand?

      • NT always gets screwed with these guys refusing to offer delivery.

    • Just use free click and collect then?

  • How does this compare to a lenovo e580?

    • I've done some research and they're pretty different. Also depends on the specs you have on the e580. I'm waiting for my e590 to arrive.

Vivo looks like a ultra book, very stylish, but less expansion capability and probably no rj45 if you need it. That price on the Vivo is pretty awesome tho.

  • I can't seem to get the coupon to work, otherwise I'd be all over this.

    • +1

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

    • "This code can't be applied to your order."

      • In the end I created a new eBay account and then it went through. In for 1!

  • +5

Is 16Gb or 32Gb ever going to become standard?

    • Correct me if I'm wrong but my understanding is that with ultra fast SSD hard disks there is less need for high RAM? I thought the HDD took some of the load through caching (from memory).

      • +2

Ram is useful for chrome users lols with their 20+ tabs open :p

In all serious tho, it's more suited for people who may wish to run a number of virtual machines. There's probably other useful uses that others can help suggest by chiming in.

      • SSD caches have nothing to do with ram, the ssd only ever interacts with ram when you hibernate the laptop rather than sleeping it, as during hibernation all running programs in ram get moved to the ssd while during sleep it stays on ram. During use though, the ssd doesn't help ram at all.

Thanks lyl, picked one up! Was in the market for a good value laptop.

  • +1

How long does the battery last?

Is the graphics card any good or just a token peice of crap?

  • +1

    Pity it's not a touchscreen ='(

    • -5

Touch screens on laptops need to go the way of the 3d tv.

      • +1

        Rather 2in1.

      • +1

I use the touchscreen on my elitebook at work from time to time but I could happily live without it.

Have anyone ever bought Asus from Bing Lee? Can the warranty be done locally at Asus or sending it back to Bing Lee?

    • Laptops and monitors are typically direct with manufacturer if after the DOA period. Gets results faster.

      • Mmm love me some downvotes for sharing my opinion gained from working in the retail IT industry…

  • +1

    Is the keyboard backlit?

    • +1

Maybe. I asked the question via live chat, but as closed answer will be tomorrow.

    • +1

It is backlit. But the letters on the keyboard is hard to see from certain angle.

      • Have you got one to test from Bing Lee? If so that is great news for people who got one of these babies.

On the Asus website said it's an option ( model dependent of course ), but answer back this morning from

Bing Lee said No. So not sure then???

  • +2

Can not find the Model Number F512FJ-EJ038T in the ASUS Australia website

Non IPS Display is a non starter

  • +1

Pretty decent specs for the price

  • note that the battery is 37wh

    • +2

Is that good or bad? :/

      • +1

        On the lower end.

  • +2

This is a crappy laptop - single SODIMM slot, plastic build, no USB-C charging. I'd give it a miss.

    • +3

      Plus
      Average brightness non IPS screen
      lower end battery
      No finger reader?

So why is this a good deal?

Isn't something like E585 with IPS screen and USB-c charging is better?

      • It literally says in the description of the listing that it has a fingerprint scanner..

        • +3

I guess a lot people like this deal because of the Intel i7-8565U processor.

However, I personally wouldn't trade off other aspects just to get an Intel i7-8565U
