more interested in the 144hz gaming monitor for $379!

    • Depends on what panel it's using

      • Almost certainly Samsung VA along the same lines as the Kogan monitor.

Check out the JG50 from Samsung in a shop to get a vague idea of the performance.

        • Samsung PLS (which is Samsung's name for IPS) according to the PC World review of it.

          • +1

@BradH13: That's an error then, because not only is there no Samsung curved IPS panel, they've never made a PLS panel that's high refresh rate.

It's Samsung SVA, and the design is the same as the Viotek GN27DB and the Kogan model, so it's the same Original Design Manufacturer (ODM).

            • +1

@jasswolf: Fair enough. Was just passing on the info they published.

              • @BradH13: No problem! The only reason I said 'almost' is because I wasn't sure if it was the exact same panel, or the off-chance it was the recent update to said panel. It's almost certainly a panel they started manufacturing in 2017.

                • @jasswolf: Does anyone know if the monitor has freesync? I'm considering picking this one up because I can't find anything with the same specs at this price point besides the Kogan one.

                  • +1

@animus1100: The review doesn't mention it, but the Kogan and Viotek versions have Freesync, so take your chances if you like?

Honestly, this is a mediocre VA panel for gaming. Colours are great, but you will hate scrolling with red-shift, or gaming with cartoonish or cel-shaded, or other high-contrast games, and for fast-paced TV/movies.

The dark smearing is strong with this one.

      Is it a trap?

    • +4

Lol somebody who thinks a 6 core CPU with a base clock of 2.9ghz and turbo over 4ghz isn't enough for gaming

      • And that most games are still not optimised for multithreading…

    • +1

At that price it is a joke.

      • +1

I don't think the price is too bad tbh

  • Ozito batteries on sale yet?

    • ALDI's xfinity are on sale, so Bunnings will most likely match with their Ozito Power X Change range (closer to 19th October)

    • +1

Bunnings price matching had started. 4ah batteries and the circular saw have dropped, others will shortly I assume.

  • +1

    Also, i think its a Gtx 2070, not 9070.

    • Thanks, updated.

  • +1

Any feedback on the line trimmer?

    • Shaft is a little short, so bit hard on the back after a while…… Gets the job done though and has enough power to do a bit of edging. Not as well weighted or powerful as a real line trimmer but fine for basic gardens.

That's, word for word, my tinder profile description

        • +3

I think I just swiped right.

    • I think Bunnings have reduced the price on their line trimmer, which includes battery and charger to $89

Pc on Part Picker, video card is slightly different but everything else is the same/equiv I think: https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/t7thMc
Weird choice to put an expensive z390 motherboard with a non-k CPU, if we exclude the silly price on retail windows it's about $300 over retail prices for the parts it contains.

Since the monitor doesn't mention Quantum dots it's probably the same as the Kogan https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-27-curved-qhd-144hz-frees… using the older samsung VA panel.

  • any idea if the lawn mower is self propelled?

    • From the photo it shows a lever in front of the handle which suggests it might be

  • +1

Can I say I like how the lawnmower folds up. My Ryobi 18V doesn’t.

  • Our local Aldi stores are all discounting the last round of batteries, so buying them now before the next round of tools release may save you some cash. They were doing the 4.0 ah ones for 29.99. They also had the 7 piece kit for 150.

    • Agreed, I always wait a few weeks after the Special Buys to purchase the Batteries at ~50% off.

    • Which Aldi has the 7 piece kit?

      • No where in Melbourne, at least according to the incredibly unhelpful staff member I spoke to on the phone.

    • They're still $39.99 at my local. Which suburb are you in?

      • Oh, I'm about a month too late. Are they still 29.99 at your local or have they gone up again?

  • I'm in the hunt for a new keyboard and mouse. Any word on how good these are? Software support? What's the RGB like?

  • +1

I have visions of shoppers asking the checkout staff technical questions about the gaming PC.

  • Anyone used this mower before? I’m in the market for one and been checking out Bunnings for the last week. This is great timing!

    • +1

Yeah, bought this lawn mower from Aldi couple of years ago. Pretty happy so far. What do you need to know?

      • Thanks. Just wanted to know comments about quality and reliability. I have never owned a mower but am keen on a battery one for the ease of use (I hope). We have a 350sqm yard on a slope, bit bumpy in parts. Do you think this mower will be ok? I have no idea what grass I have, but I’d say it’s on the tough side.

        • +5

I have about 250m2 on a little slope. It takes me about 45 min to mow, with a bit juice left, but not much. Don't know what type of grass it is, but nothing fancy. I try to keep grass shorter though.
Mower has plenty of power if the grass is up to about 20cm in height. Any higher and it struggles - ie works ok but takes longer.

Support is good - when plastic safety key cracked they sent me few spare keys as replacement within a week.
Quality and reliability seems ok to me, but this is my first cordless mower so can't really compare.
Big catcher is a bonus, whole structure seems solid. Good height adjustment.

Compared to my old petrol victa - much quieter, always starts, no smoke.
Compared to my old electric ozito - bigger machine, no cords.

If I was to buy it again - absolutely :)
          Perfect for my needs.

Something to consider - Aldi mower + charger + 2 batteries is about 300 bucks.
You might want to check Bunnings to see what will be cost of comparable Ozito or Ryobi.
Couple of times I saw smaller Ozito model for similar price, can't remember if it's single battery though.

          Hope it helps :)

        • as long as you don't let your grass grow feral then an electric one is fine. they are a lot lighter than petrol mowers

    • +1

Brought the mower last year and it is fantastic. Better than the entry level stuff at Bunnings. This model though is different to last years, so can’t review this exact model.

      • Oh, didn’t realise it was different. Do you know if an equivalent we could research?

      • What size lawn can you mow on one charge?

  • Anyone used the pole Chainsaw? Borrowed a neighbours Ryobi chorded pole saw. Very impressed with that (albeit pretty heavy at full reach, but you need the weight for cutting). Never used a battery version.

    • I got the Ryobi battery one when it was last on sale a month or two ago, it's good but like you say, heavy at full length. Adequate grunt for cutting most branches though. That said, I'd snap this one up as it has the hedge attachment as well. I've got a separate hedge trimmer but need an extendable one at times. Can't get a hedge attachment for the Ryobi without buying the whole pole again which sucks. For $100 plus battery, I don't think you can go wrong.

One thing to add, grab a bottle of chain & bar oil while you're there. I got my Ryobi one home, ready to get stuck in, only to find it had no oil and they don't supply any in the box to get you going. Should at least mention it on the box.

i'm a bit disappointed that aren't selling the cheap reciprocating saw for $39 like last year. is this multipurpose saw more than just a jigsaw?

i'm stocked up on cheap aldi 4ah batteries.

the pole pruner/trimmer looks like good value compared to bunnings offerings

    • Yes, saw the pole pruner/trimmer too. Quite interested in those too. Anyone had any experience with this.

So a neg for the PC parts value.

  • Tempted for the gaming monitor. Wondering if I will need to get into a brawl with a grandpa on the day when it goes on sale

  • +1

50" Ultra HD Smart TV with HDR holycrap is this decent at least? No way something like this can be cheap. Too good to be true.

as for the 1440p 144hz monitor what the hell? Im curious about this monitor as well. Been looking for a good 1440p144hz monitor.

    Is this normal price?

I wonder if this is in response to Aldi deal this weekend.

    • What was this linking to? It’s not working anymore.

  • +1

Has anyone had any luck going into bunnings to see if they will have a similar price for the ozito range? Looking at the Lawnmower, which isn't discounted at bunnings. Or do we just wait until bunnings actually marks the individual products down? Their price match only works on exact same products unfortunately.

  • Fam need advice. I'm trying to offload the XTM set of tools I got from the masters closing sale (apparently rebranded GMC) and havent been arsed to try and find fitting batteries.

Are the ALDI ecosystem of tools any good? Ie, the circular saw and jigsaw DO NOT use proprietery blades and can be replaced with something from bunnings? Is the 20v power any good compared to the regular 18v of other brands?

    • +1

the multipurpose saw takes (standard) jigsaw blades only. it doesn't take reciprocating saw blades
