Telstra Nokia 2.1 + $10 Telstra Prepaid Sim Kit for $35 at Woolworths as it is an old model, most stores got 1-3 pack left, for example, Beecroft WWS got 3 left according to the staff’s PDA.

Although it is a budget phone, it is pretty smooth with Android 9, Android 10 Go Edition heading to Nokia 2.1 in early 2020.

  • any way to check store's availability? Can't find this online.

    • +1

probably just rock up and ask… if they dont have it then you just lost out on the chance to buy a $35 phone… no biggie since everyone here retires phones a million times better than this… hell I've given up using my Nokia 6.1…

      • Cool, can I have it?

        • -7

No. The old saying comes to mind "I wouldnt piss on you if you were burning".

    • +1

The only way to check store's availability is to ask WWS staff, they have a PDA can check all store availability according to the post code.

Called few of the stores around North Lakes QLD. The staff were not very co-operative to give any information about the availability of the product. Rocked up at Rothwell store and there was one piece left in stock there. Scanned it and it came up as $35.

Can be used as backup phone.

1gb ram.. $35 is how much it's worth

    • Its Android GO which should work on 1gb but most people outside of India dont need to know about it,

      • Lol even with Android go still sub par. A good burner phone and the price is ok. I wouldn't be going out of my way to different Woolies to get this though.

        • +4

Not everyone needs a phone to use as a phone. I bought one back last year when they selling for $99 with a free google thingy
It's got some good selling points. It has a large screen, 8mp camera, and most importantly a snapdragon 425 in it. Usually, phones at this pricepoint are mediatek

@outlander: How is the sound from the front facing speakers?

This also has a large 4000mAh battery and will get Android 10 update Q2 next year.

            • +1

@ozhunter68: Seems okay to me. Nothing flash of course, if anything its a little constrained, but no serious defects.

  • is this a single or dual sim phone?

    • +1

The one on sale is Single SIM version.

Please don't give telstra any money people.

    They're the worst.

The whole thing is a pyramid scheme.

Do you really want John Howard's telstra shares to gain value?

          Yeah it's so funny

          • @iamhurtin: No offence meant to you. Was a witty reply to your heavy and serious comment.

I think many people on here have had bad experiences with Telstra and can feel your pain, me included.

But then again most other telco's are similarly bad, and even more profits go overseas.

            • @ozhunter68: Yeah but the corruption of telstra is different from other telcos.

I've nearly gone crazy dealing with them last 3 weeks over a simple unlock of a piece of crap oppo phone.

I gotta contact the telco ombudsman, the acc said they can't do it but I definitely have a case.

I just hate the way telstra is set up so you get upset with the manilla/Philippines staff and you can't escalate.

When someone called back to help me in a matter I solved myself, I begged to talk to an Australian so I could yell at them.

Also, um.. Do you know what the word witty means?

Saying a comment that gets said about 5 times on every post - isn't very witty

@iamhurtin: I had a contract with Vodafone for 24 months. I was supposed to be charged X amount and was charged Y amount. Just like you I called them and talked to non Australian staff. In the end I had to go the ombudsman for them to fix their mistake, even though I showed them proof of what they should be charging me and they could see it themselves.

Another time I had prepaid sim and as it happens one day I try to call and couldn't. And guess what happened. Without notifying me, they simply took all the money that was on my account and changed my prepaid sim to something else. Spent hours on the phone, went to their shop and they couldn't even verify my id. In the end I got my money back, plus some more, and yet to this day, they still can't verify my id, even though if I buy sim and register online it all goes through fine.

So, I guess when a next Vodafone deal comes around, I should tell you to stay away because they are the worst, less john Howard.

What you had is a personal experience, so let it rest, otherwise soon you won't be spending money at all, as there's hardly any company that didn't have an unhappy customer.

                • @bargainparker: Vodafone didn't ruin our nbn

Telstra shareholders and their friends - the
                  Government did that.

                  Vodafone just suck in general.

                  Good Android Boxes though

                  • @iamhurtin: Not so long ago companies that were selling washing powder were having a scam where customers were told they were getting more for less. And guess what happened? Well, they were simply scamming people. We live in a society which is called capitalism and some democracy. I could give you many examples where companies tried and/or succeeded doing what they shouldn't.

You are giving one example of Telstra. At the end of the day, Telstra is just a capitalist business made on the foundation to make as much money as possible, regardless of whether it is good for customers. We can see it all the time and people fall for it every time, instead of taking a stand and first charging companies and more so, people who run it, so they can feel the hand of the law just like every ordinary person.

You want something like a socialist system, where people will be honest and take care of each other. Honesty is not a strong point for humanity and from your own experience you know how much care is taken of our elderly and mentally ill people, not excluding, homeless, DV victims, etc.

The bottom line of just about any company is money, or something along the line how to procure feathers from a goose with the least amount of hissing.

As far as reception goes, Vodafone is fine for me.

                • @bargainparker: Also my experience wasn't personal
Ive had to deal with telstra many times trying to get elderly and mentally ill people out of their telstra contracts and products because they were being exploited and ripped off.

        • (profanity) moron

    • Are people down voting the telstra hate or the John Howard hate.

They're so intertwined that it doesn't matter

I just want something that can receive sms codes and run an authenticator app with an Aldi sim.

I'm getting authenticator red lined by spellcheck. OK how do you spell authenticator?

I can confirm its definitely locked to Telstra. Tried a Boost sim & it worked. Tried a Voda sim & it didn't.

    • Tried belong?

      • +2

I haven't. I did try Aldi (another Telstra re-seller) and that sim didn't work either.

      • Did you try any?

    • Tried Lycamobile?

I bought this phone on sale many months ago. It's a great little phone, considering the price the screen is good, performs well.
I loaned it to a friend and he was really impressed (after his Galaxy S8 broke). I own a Pixel 3XL and as it's Android Go the software feels almost identical.
If you can get it for $35 it would be a great buy!!

  • how much would it cost to unlock it?

    • +1

I tried buying unlocking code from online(unlockcodestore.com). But the seller told he couldn't generate a code for this phone. So, he is refunding me. He advised either to call telstra or go to some mobile store.

I called telstra. I requested to unlock it for free as I am a telstra customer. They told me that as this is a 2018 model, I will have to wait until 13th September 2020 to unlock it for free. Alternatively, I can pay $25 to unlock it now. One of my friend's told me that they were asked to pay $80 because he told that he purchased it recently.

Can any one confirm, if you got an unlock code or if you could use any sim other than telstra (like boost or belong or lycamobile)???
