  • I'd love to take a cruise sometime in my life, but the thing is, with small/medium size boats, I get really seasick. Do you guys think it would be the same for the big ones?

These large cruise ships are a totally different experience. But if you ever see ‘tender to shore’ on the itinerary, those are on small lifeboats which can definitely get rocky.

      • At least you're only on them for 10 mins max.

My partner gets a bit of travel sickness. We were on the Radiance a few months ago and as soon as it started moving she was on the bed ready to hurl. A Kwell a day saved her for the rest of the 8 days luckily.

        Probably her last cruise…

        • That’s not true. I sat on one for 40 mins just earlier this year. It depends on the port and the wind/currents on the day.

          • @ATangk: Dang, I usually give me 5 minutes and then I start to throw up. But a few friends have suggested taking anti-motionsickness tablets. Maybe I'll try that when the opportunity comes. Thanks!

        • Try just ginger (biscuits, proper ginger beer etc). MythBusters did a nice test on how effective ginger is. My seasick partner also gives it a thumbs up. No side effects like kewls.

          • @tunzafun001: Haha ginger. Just ask any Asian granny about that one. Probably have dried ginger in their handbags at all times.

    • If its any solace to you… Big ships like these dont sway or move like small to medium boats.

Though in saying that….when ships get hit by big enough waves. You are in for one hell of a ride. Vomit central.

My partner gets seasick, but after day 1 (and ginger biscuits) we have been on 6 cruises since!

BUT… AVOID the NZ cruise as your first cruise. It's notorious for the worst seas you will experience on a cruise.

      • What would you suggest? Not in a rush to get in one. Thanks!

        • As a first? Princess cruise around south pacific out of Brisbane. Sydney heads has some swell.

        • A river cruise., especially Budapest to Amsterdam.

      Ask your doctor for Stemetil

My wife gets quite bad seasickness, popped 1 a day for 1st few days once your getting used to the motion to stop the nausia symptoms, then she was fine.

    • Cruise out of Singapore up the west side of Malaysia/Thailand. If you're on a big boat like Royal Caribbean offer you will be lucky to even feel the thing move.

  • Itinery dates should probably not include October if the travel is from November to December..

  • Can the flight be at a different time so someone could do some sightseeing in New Zealand and then get the boat back?

  • WARNING. If you are getting a drinks package do a search on here for Celebrity Cruises. They are dodgey and changed their offer after the boat left the shore.

You want to provide the link, please

    • Thanks tunza. Will let my folks know to avoid Celebrity if possible.

No worries. I really don't like that Celebrity are often rated higher than the Princess, Norweign, HA's etc. I don't know who does the rating, or if Celebrity has gone down hill but they are definitely not in the same league as the others. Hope your folks get a great cruise.
