  If you have the cash now, stick it in a high interest saver eg 6.51 @ ubank. If you plan on buying a big ticket item eg TV, then set up a myer christmas club account in mid september, put in say $1000, they'll give you $100 bonus. close the myer christmas club account so it doesnt roll over. that way you just made 10% on your money in a single month. you'll get the gift card in novemeber. if you decide you dont need that much in gift cards, sell them in smaller denominations on ebay, eg i often see $50 coles myer gift cards go for over $50 once you add in postage - i've never really understood why but they do, have a look through completed listings. Using the $1000 example, by the time you sell off all those cards and pay ebay/paypal fees you should still be $50 on top, so then stick that $1050 back into a high interest saver. Alot of work for not that much extra return, but for some $50 can mean alot!
