  • due to the grey import network ban

Are you referring to 3g shut down on some devices??

    • +4

Yes. No matter what I say someone's going to blow up my PMs over it and it's a waste of time. Complain to ACMA. I can't do anything lol

    • +6

Some 4G mobile phones sold overseas don’t support VoLTE and need to fallback to 3G to make and recieve phone calls. Because 3G is no longer available, Australian carriers have been blocking these mobile phones at IMEI-level.

      https://www.acma.gov.au/publications/2024-10/factsheet/new-r…

      • +2

Just so everyone gets the range of the ban, I have an imported nokia 3210 that was banned although it is capable of making volte calls to 000. After the phone was banned, I can still make 000 calls, so they are simply banning phones based on the fact they have "non-australian" IMEI numbers.

Some phones will work, but there's no way of knowing.

My son's Google Pixel 2 XL purchased from the Google Store has been blocked on the Catch Connect (Optus network) prepaid plan.
He got an SMS from CatchConnect saying this phone is now blocked on their network,
      even though it has over twenty working 4G/LTE bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, 17, 20, 25, 26, 28, 29, 30, 32, 38, 40, 41, 66 !!

  • Thanks Clear! You make our AE shopping process much clearer ;)

Do you know if there will be any boosted cashback from any of the providers?

    • +2

You'll probably only find out the day of the CB

    • +3

Definitely will be. As for how much…

  • +10

Shame the Aussie dollar is in the gutter right now.

    • +2

Remember the few blissful months of parity with the US$? 😭

      • +3

Or when it was closer to 1:1 a very long time ago. Back when you'd order from Dealextreme and wait a few months for it to arrive.

    • +4

      Heading to a 20-year low

US tariffs -> CN economy weakening -> AU dollar less needed

Blame US for imposing tariffs? Or blame the raise of CN? Or blame AU for relying too much on CN?

      • Blame us for trying to do the right thing!

US happily spend whatever they want. The US is beyond repayment levels of debt…so the dollar actually has a massive negative value. Yet ours is almost half of that…. Why?

        Because they got the bombs!

  • Do you usually enter these in the Promo Code field during checkout?

  • Why don’t they just have a permanent discount??

    • +1

Because permanent discount strategies work. Consumers aren't logical.

      • +1

You mean permanent discounts don’t work?

        • +1

With the exception of Aldi that sells at RRP not really.

        • Yeah sorry I was a bit ambiguous.

I mean permanently (or near permanently) showing a sale/discount, rather than just making full price the lower price and forgoing putting on "sales", results in selling more stuff.

  • One phone that I can testify works is poco x6 5g.

I think the Qualcomm chipset may be a helper here…

    • My poco m5s does too.

  • +6

After a long drawn out saga involving Telstra and the telecommunications ombudsman, Telstra have unblocked my Poco X4GT which is now working perfectly. Went through the normal BS about resetting the network settings, checking 3498 etc and IMEI ( all kosher) and was told to contact Poco. Telstra needs to be fined by the ACCC for various misdemeanors including giving totally incorrect advice about devices working or not working after the 3G shutdown.

    • Did they unblock your phone specifically? Or all Poco X4GT?

      • Not sure. It lost Volte when rebooted and switched off. After pushing them and registering a complaint with the ombudsman service magically resumed. Telstra texted me saying all kosher before 20/10 and all other checks said the same. They have blocked randomly Xiaomi phones but are unblocking depending on unknown conditions

  • +6

No discounts for mobiles means more profits for JB and the telcos selling more handsets. Long live the Aussie gouge.

    • -2

Not worth the stuff around. See post above by Dick10.

  • why are the comments all about phones?
isn't this post about aliexpress discount?

    • Because AliExpress blocked coupon usage on most mobile phones due to telecos blocking them here.

      • Oh I see.
        Thank you for the clarification

The discounts should work on the computer though?

        • Yeah no issue

        • +4

Blocked on phones meaning "blocked when purchasing mobile phones", not "blocked when trying to use a phone to make a purchase". You can still use your phone/app to buy things.

          • +2

@Alzori: Woops I can see how that can be read wrong completely

  • +2

Thanks Clear! Dumb question, but I assume this will bring down the price of the xiaoxin pad pro 2025 close to your deal in November?

    • +2

Maybe not done to that price as there were additional discounts. We'll see.

      • Ah understood, actually it looks like they just jacked the prices for it - at the Lenovo online store

  • +1

@Clear - Need a new tablet after child killed my Sammy A8. Will you be looking to include a deal on any tablets to match with this deal?

    • +3

Yes. Probably not initially when the sale starts as I'm away.

      • Hoping to get the xiaoxin pad pro 2025 myself…

  • Will that work on the y700?

    • Sitewide

  • Perfect! Want some tube blind drivers to automate our blinds in our new place in Feb. Excellent timing.

  • @Clear have you experienced lately that Ali agrees to refund a return and then refunds 0$ and refuse an appeal?

    • +2

No never. Sent you a PM.

    • -1

I have found that AliExpress refuses to refund or re-ship item when the last mile courier royally screws up by leaving the package on top of the letterbox right next to the footpath.

Who is this dodgy courier you ask? iMile.

If I submit the same evidence to PayPal they will 100% rule in favour but Ali will shit can my account.

So, yes. Their 100% delivery guarantee is complete BS.

      /cc @Clear

@Clear Cashrewards has 8% cashback ($25 cap per order) till 13th Jan.

    • They finally fixed it to not say US only.

    • The above codes are not listed on the Cashrewards site, so seems that using a code will cancel out the CR rebate.

  • +2

Hopefully can get the Xiaoxin Pad Pro after they refused to ship my order in the last sale. Although I noticed they jacked up the prices which is quite annoying.

    • same here, had the same issue so got refunded. Very frustrating

    • Yep same thing happened to me.

    • People keep saying the price is jacked so I checked and it's not 🤔 Obviously it's not as cheap now since it doesn't have any discounts.

      • Looks like the price has come back down actually. On the morning you posted the deal, the 12GB version had gone over US$300. I remember because I was eying it off to decide whether to buy the tablet again around Christmas/Boxing day.

        • Ditto, looks like the price went back down today. Which store are you following? If price stays the same tomorrow, I might just pull the trigger when the coupon is live.

          • @Phool: I was using the one originally shared by Clear, but it looks like they jacked the prices back up again.

            • @vinakro: My deal had an additional discount being funded by AliExpress and not the seller. Unfortunately the Ali marketing team are on holidays.

            • @vinakro: @vinakro

I've been tracking these ones - the coupons seem to work with it and prices haven't been jacked.

              Link 1
              Link 2

              • @Phool: I used Link 1. When I look at it now, the 8GB version with a pen is US$275, but when I purchased right as the deal went live, it was US$258. Including tax and discount, I paid $US256. Is it appearing differently for you?

                • @vinakro: Oh weird, looks like the price is jacked back up. I just put an order in 30min ago for 8gb/256gb for 252.89 USD after the coupon no pen (case/film only). Now it's showing 270 USD. Link 2 should work though?

  • Tempted by the Xiaomi AX3000t however can’t find a global version and just to try openwrt

  • +2

Would really love a 5700x3d deal to use with this discount…

  • Hmm $20 bucks ish away from the ~30 USD amount…

I'm into computing, electronics, gaming, any ideas welcome :)

      • +1

Do you have that ring? Do you vouch for it? How does it compare with Oura?

Found a couple of personal reviews on reddit, one very positive, the other more critical but not negative.

I'm tempted, but it seems AUD30 is the going price, no rush.

        • +1

I had the ring, a Colmi R02, for about 6 months before losing it. It was very good, had similar health results to my smartwatch, battery lasted 3-4 days. I've ordered another. Bought using Ali coins, cost me US$12.83.

      • Nice ideas thanks,

I was looking briefly at the SR08 Smart Ring…

        • Better than the R02 above?

          • @wisdomtooth: Watched some reviews and I like the r08, the bigger one with display, personally, now.

            • @Misha Bakunin: This one?

Is it really Xiaomi? The one above is Colmi. Presumably, Xiaomi is better? Or is this one fake?

              • @wisdomtooth: Yeah, couldn't find reliable info on a Xiaomi ring, so grabbed a Colmi R06 for A$24 + tax - 15% TCB instead.

                • @wisdomtooth: It's cheaper, I like the display on the sr rings though….

What the hell ring size am I I've roughly worked out size 11…

I'm 193 cm tall and male, that seems probably right but a bit of a risk.

                  • @Misha Bakunin: There's a table on some of items. And it varies by brand! For Colmi, 11 is 65.7mm.

              • @wisdomtooth: I don't think it is really alas, still looks good for the prices though…

                • @Misha Bakunin: But the reviews on AliEx itself said the measurements are crap. If you just want a ring that looks good, I'm sure you can do a lot better than $20 😅

        • +2

So you only really need to spend USD$10. This happens to me a lot so I usually end up just buying what I need rather than wasting another USD$20.

Another option is to look on the Choice buy 3 items for free shipping page to see if what you need is on there.

  • +1

Typical price-jacking, lol… I was looking at buying a $170 camera, they just jacked it to $207… Another camera I was looking at was $240 an hour ago, now it's $571, lol…

    • +2

Unlucky! Nothing I was looking at jacked me off.

  • +1

This coupon code is for single use only and can't be used here

Trying to buy a zemismart blind motor

    • Which coupon?

      • Was with OZAU12

      • Also getting it with OZA130

  • Thanks OP - bought some squid jigs for my old man via topcashback. Tracked within 15mins of placing my order. I had items in my cart already and then went through topcashback. Much easier this way..

  • +3

Honestly the worst store to shop online from. I have had literally destroyed items delivered to me. Have followed their refund/returns process providing pictures/ videos etc. only to be issued the no refund judgement. Absolute Bs.
Not sure if anyone else has had a similar experience lately.

    • +2

It's a marketplace. Depends on the store you're ordering from. Higher feedback are often but not always better.

      • +2

I have ordered from choice sellers as well as others , not sure if that makes a difference. However, I'm pretty sure it's AliExpress that handless complaints. So this is definitely on them.

        • Typically if it's the packing destroyed as opposed to the whole product being broken they're not going to do a full refund. Maybe a partial refund.

          • +2

@Clear: The packaging and product were both damaged to the point I can't use it. No refund at all, not even partial.

            • @ltjaris: I've never had that experience. Some things were damaged in transit and I've had things faulty on receipt and they've always issues instant full refund for me.

            • @ltjaris: Have your bank do a chargeback or dispute the transaction with them.
I've had various things not turn up when I have ordered them and Aliexpress refused a refund.
My bank stepped in and I got my money back, took some time but I eventually got it

    • +1

      Unfortunate.

Conversely I've had perfectly fine experiences, all arriving as described.
One return for a mini PC was done without issue, and a hefty refund for a KB with one part broken.

    • +3

Yeh, I've had a bad run with them, it just doesn't seem worth the effort, so many scammy sellers, more scammers than legit sellers it seems….

I use to buy some small cheap crap from there, that was usually 'ok'… 2022 I had a couple of orders around ~$100 each from high rated sellers who sent total crap, nothing like what was described, I used the Paypal refunded returns to send the items back (as instructed), but the sellers didn't pick them up from the post office so they got bounded back to me months later, I got no-where with their support, money lost, so I stopped using Aliexpress for a couple of years….

With the recent November sales I figured I'd try again, I placed 2 orders, neither shipped, they just timed out and were refunded… Now with this sale, everything I was planning to buy has been price-jacked, lol

      • Wait, so paypal doesn't fulfill the refund if the seller doesn't pick up the return from the PO??

        • +1

Because they weren't delivered they wouldn't refund… It all took months because they had to go back to China, Paypal did refund the return shipping (which was almost as much as the items were worth), but not the purchase price…
