  • i say i5 ish

    • Hi spliniter,

We spec our computers according to Windows Experience Index. We think it's more representative of what kind of speed and Windows experience you can get and eases comparison across brands.

      • Well, not everyone wants to use Windows.

        • Hi leiiv,

We supply our customers with Linux operating systems. We offer you a choice.

      • You know the WEI index is very inaccurate right? If you wanted to test performance you should use more professional tools like CineBench or 3DmarkVantage (either basic or premium version).

        • Hi scrimshaw,

When tested properly, results from Windows Experience Index are accurate and repeatable, taking into account margin of error. But we will consider and thank you for your suggestion.

  • +1

    I call straight out advertising.

ANd not enough info about the system apart from it being great that it's "Gold Class"

    • Hi shmahoo,

We're sorry that we disappointed you. Our specs our computers with Windows Experience Index, but here's an example of what you'll get. We think WEI is more meaningful than hardware names.

      Gold Class with DVD
      - Level 6 performance - 2nd highest
      - Base score: 6.3
      - Processor subscore: 6.3 - AMD Athlon II X2 255
      - Memory (RAM) subscore: 6.3 - 4GB DDR3 memory
      - Graphics subscore: 7.3 - AMD Radeon HD 6770
      - Gaming graphics subscore: 7.3 AMD Radeon HD 6770
      - Primary hard disk subscore: 7.4 - Intel X25-M SSD + 1.8TB usable HDD

      Gold Class with Blu-ray
      - Level 7 performance - highest possible
      - Base score: 7.3
      - Processor subscore: 7.3 - AMD Phenom II X4 840
      - Memory (RAM) subscore: 7.3 - 4GB DDR3 memory
      - Graphics subscore: 7.8 - AMD Radeon HD 6870
      - Gaming graphics subscore: 7.8 - AMD Radeon HD 6870
      - Primary hard disk subscore: 7.4 - Intel X25-M SSD + 1.8TB usable HDD

  • Absolutely meaningless if the specs of the machine isn't listed. There is nothing to compare to for it to be considered a bargain, and getting 7 on Windows Experience isn't that hard now days.

Processor and RAM at 6.3 is pretty crap….
My Q9550 even manages a 7.2 on stock with DDRII ram scoring 7.2.

    I just don't know why I'm gettting a 5.9 on hard drive though…
I am running 500GB Caviar Black that's just under 50% full.

    • +1

5.9 is about the best you will get with a spinning hdd. Need to get SSD for higher.

    • Hi Trance,

What we do differently than other manufacturers is to care for all-round performance, which is reflected in the base score in Windows Experience Index. We don't neglect gaming graphics performance (7.2 and 7.8 in WEI) which is often lacking in Windows Media Center PCs which would otherwise unbalance your computing experience.

You will find base scores exceeding 5.9 to be dramatically faster than base scores of 5.9 and lower.

  • +1

Case is a Silverstone GD06B which costs $145

I can't see anything special listed, if you add up the specs I am very sure it will be well under what the price is listed.

    So really, not a bargain.

    • Hi samfisher5986,

We selected this case because of the unique features it brings to the Windows Media Center experience, such as hot-plugging internal hard disk drives. You can add more TV recording time without having to shut down your computer.

      • +2

Its a nice case, but your computer costs more then at www.umart.com.au

So why buy from you when Umart is a trusted computer shop?

Repost your bargain when you are the cheapest in Australia.

  • would I be able to play Commander Keen on either of these machines?

    • +4

Possibly on low with no AA ;-)

  • It does not even include monitor and speakers, how can it be a bargain??

    • Hi leiiv,

As Gold Class is a Windows Media Center PC, it's expected to work with a TV as its main display device.

  • +14

Ok here you go, "Gold Class with DVD" Computer, built at UMART

      • hooray for investigationing

    • +1

Woops, forgot Windows 7, add $193.

      not like it matters…

    • +1

You forgot the wireless keyboard and remote, and the shipping cost.

    • +4

Nice find. I guess you could say that this bargain has just been…

      …outclassed.

      YEEAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

    • +$100 for their 3 year onsite warranty

      So $1,149 vs $1,800.

      Not a bargain.

      • Hi tantryl,

We organise delivery for all warranty repairs in Australia so you don't have to pay shipping for warranties.

        • Umart's warranty is +$100 for their 3 year On-Site warranty. I wasn't talking about your service.

  • Or you can just build it yourself with parts and accessories from MSY or PCDIY which probably is cheaper….

    • Hi HandsomeMonkey,

What we bring to customers is long and easy support. We cover you for 3 years and make the warranty process painless: you don't have to pay shipping to send the computer back, we pick up the computer for you within Australia.

      • +1

How can you be trusted for 3 years?

ABN status: Active from 18 Mar 2011
Goods & Services Tax (GST): Not currently registered for GST

If you disappear in a month, nobody can claim warranty/support….
Your business has no history at all…

        • Hi samfisher5986,

We are required to and will honour warranty claims for the period that we put out.

        • +2

Nobody knows if your business will exist in 3 years….

  • Can get something very similar to the specs listed for under $1500, someone will soon do a MSY price compare and find this out…

Don't quit your day job mate

Oh and if you ever sell one you might want to offer dual boot with Ubuntu+XBMC, if this is for a home theater…

    Also like the avatar

    Edit: Beat to it…

    • Hi marchi,

Thanks for the suggestion. We'll consider it. = )

  • -1

I like your business idea, hope it works out. Ignore the DIY people, their not your target market anyways.

    • It is cheaper for a mum/dad to PAY a professional to tell them which computer to buy.

Its not DYI as the business builds it for you.

at nearly $600 difference, its a scam, he doesn't even list specs on the website, just horrible windows performance scores.

      • -3

Not everyone cares or understands specs sam. Do people know the specs of xbox when they buy it? Ofcourse not. I hate when geeks think the entire world should be geeks too.

        FYI-I am personally a geek.

        • +3

Wow, clearly you are NOT a geek.

xbox specs are not relevant, as there is only one option and it can run everything possible.

Just because a regular person doesn't understand specs, it doensn't mean they should buy a celeron for $2000.

Even when you buy a car, specs are important, a 1L engine car easily doesn't have enough power for many people.

If you are not a geek, you should get help from a geek

When I need help for my car, I get help from a mechanic

          derp derp

        • Hi PainToad,

Our goal was to make specs more comprehensible to more people.

        • -5

I have worked in IT as a developer for 5 year now, yes I am a geek. But no my entire life dosnt revolve around my personal computer's CPU and graphics card because I have…whats it called again? O that's right, a life.

And I know xbox has only one spec configuration, that's my point, this guy is trying to bring this simplicity to the HTPC market.

    • Hi PainToad,

Thank very much for your comments. = )

  • +1

OP - wrong forum - this is what you are after:

    www.harveynormanrulz.com.au

    • people don't get your hopes up

No one and I mean, NO one is going to make such a website
      kirt you're a big fat phoney(Family guy)

      • LOL!

  • -1

The markup is huge. Samfisher's build only comes up to a grand but this prebuilt system is at least 80% more.

This is anything but a bargain!

Off topic: his avatar looks like a slightly aged version of KevJumba…

  • Maybe you could offer both of these for sale minus the Windows 7 Ultimate. Bet that is a "fully marked up" price W7U.

    • Hi freeradical,

We'll consider your feedback. Thanks for the suggestion.

  • I got a question what does this exactly do turn ur comp to a ps3/xbox 360

    • Hi Slide To Unlock,

Gold Class is the hardware side for Microsoft's Games for Windows platform. Combined with Games for Windows - LIVE online service and Games for Windows titles, Gold Class replicates the console gaming experience on Windows.

You can use your Xbox Live account and use your Gamertag, Gamerscore, Friends List on Windows. And these games work with supplied Xbox 360 Wireless Controller, showing the Xbox 360 controller button and layout on screen menus.

Gold Class is speced and accessorised to bring this experience together.

      • +2

        In simpler terms it useless??

      • -2

        GFWL is useless

        • Hi furatallos,

Windows gives you a choice of game service providers such as Steam, Direct2Drive, BigPond GameArena, and Origin. Also many non-Games for Windows titles work with the Xbox 360 Wireless Controller.

  • -3

Like Pain Toad said, good Idea…Good Luck…just a suggestion tho, u might want to change your avatar to make it more pro and might consider it to move this in the forum?

  • Rep has not come up with a counter to UMART ONLINE and many other computer shops offering a better price.

As a result I am voting negative for the price, as mentioned in my earlier posts.

Rep: I suggest you change your price to be the best in Australia then repost
If you can not do that, then you shouldn't be posting on a BARGAIN website.

I will revoke my negative if you can change your prices to be a bargain.

  • PainToad, JepunK and anyone else

Would you lend $2000 to a stranger if they said they would pay you back later?

    No.

Then why would you give $1800 to a computer shop with no history and no legal obligation to give you proper warranty service after 12 months, and no legal obligation to give you anything if their business closes tommorow.

    Anyone recommending this is crazy.

(woops, accidentally posted this instead of editing previous post X_X)

    • +3

how do you think michael dell got started? or hewllet packard, or apple

when they all started, they were just "system" builders that chucked parts together in their garage and sold it to lesser capable people

do you think prior to their r&d days they were anymore justified to price huge margins?

understandably his pricing is inflated, but i see no sense in having a go at someone putting an effort in to start a busiess.
instead of being borderline abusive and pretentious, maybe give suggestions for improvement not harsh criticisms

i agree with your arguments on many fronts, but i dont like how you are handling it.
every business has to start somewhere, where is he going to get the "years of credibikity" if he doesnt start today?

and not everyone can be bothered to shop around and build a comp. factor in added warranty, overhead costs, labour and profit margin. his pricing no longer becomes That inflated.

in regards to using parts that you can buy urselfand not listing it, do you think brands like origin tell you that they use corsair cases and asus mobos?
however, i do see the neccesity to list power and performance specs of the parts, just not detailed names. apple doesnt tell you that theyre using kingsto ram, hitatchi hdds, samsung ssds, intel cpus, nvidia gfx. they just tell you the performance and that they "created" the machine.

that being said, Corwin, my suggestion to you is to actually edit your post to show fullspecs and not just replyto comments. also rethink your business idea and level of proffessional appearance and most importantly, demonstrate why this is a BARGAIN

        1. He does not list specifications on his website, even Harvey Norman does this.
        2. His business is brand new and is not registered for GST
        3. Ozbargain could buy 10 computers, he could take the money and leave the country tomorrow with our money.

Michael Dell did not start his business like this.

        • Hi samfisher5986,

I would like to relieve some of your concerns.

          1. Our specs are Windows Experience Index scores. The benefit of this is that it means more to consumers than component model numbers.
          2. Your consumer rights under the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 are the same, whether we are new or not.
          3. As we are a registered business in Australia, you have rights under that situation to recover your loss.
        • +1
          1. That's not specifications. That's benchmark scores. These are not the same things.
          2. He is not contending otherwise. The Act is irrelevant to his point.
          3. In a civil court. If the accused appears. If you have sufficient evidence of it. etc. There was a case of a Brisbane store a few years back, actual bricks and mortar, that got away with tens of thousands of dollars of paid back orders then the dude skipped the country. I don't assume you are this kind of operator, but an ABR means very little.
      • Hi furythree,

        Thank you for your support.

At first I didn't want to make the post too long with the spec list. But we've heard you and updated the post to show more detailed specs.

  • Very dodgy. I have never given a negative before but this is really bad.

    • Hi furatallos,

We welcome critcism. Please let us know and we will take them into consideration.

  • -1

    Will it run Crysis?

    • +1

      Yes.

Not as good as something else for that price would run Crysis though. Although the intention of this PC is a sort of HTPC/Console hybrid.

    • Hi annoynimous,

Crysis has a recommended Windows Experience Index requirement of 5.0.

All Gold Class models exceed this, so you can play this game on Gold Class comfortably. And it works with the Xbox 360 Wireless Controller as well.

  • I'm not seeing bargain here…just free advertising for a startup company on significantly overpriced machines with (as SamF said) effectively unenforceable promises of support! Not the spirit of OzB…hence neg!

    • Hi StewBalls,

We operate under the Competition and Consumer Act 2010, it protects your consumer rights on warranties.

      • I'm sure you have the best of intentions, but business doesn't always follow the same paradigm! Many startup companies go belly-up for any number of reasons…especially (as with yours) when they've chosen a niche market. Then the CCA is worthless to warranty holders if you wind up the business & declare bankruptcy! ;)

      • +1

Corwin Tse, You have no idea what you are talking about.

It does not protect your business going bankrupt, you leaving the country and never coming back, or anything after the 12 month period.

It is very unlikely you will be around even in 12 months!

YOU HAVE NO HISTORY AT ALL, you are just some guy on the street trying to sell a computer.

  • No bargin here :(

  • +1

"Gold rabbit" sounds like an adult product.

  • +2

    THIS. IS. OZBARGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I dont know guys, I reckon we give Corwin a break, he obviously posted this in good faith + self portrait avatar, so rather than attack him, all the DIY posters should take a deep breath and calm down.

    • +1

      They're not attacking him personally.

They're saying it's not a bargain. That's it. I don't think you think it is either, but for some reason you've decided not to vote that way or voice it. Which is fine, it has enough negs now that no-one but the more serious and experienced bargainers will see it.

      • A good Rep would admit he is outdone on price and come back when he can do a better deal.

Instead he is doing dodgy salesmen technique and attempting to sell it anyway.

        • I don't think he has any sot of capability to cut down the price cheaper than competitor without losing money.

      • Precisely, I'm sure we all wish Corwin all the best for his business. However, he seriously needs to sit down & think about his marketing strategies & business model a little more before posting 'deals' on OzB; including not just using this site as free advertising. :)

  • OP you missed the all important "First post so go easy"…

These magical words turn red minus signs into green plus happiness :D

  • -2

For $1800 i could get six ps3 at this http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/48403
SIX PS3'S SIX PS3'S SIX PS3'S SIX PS3'S even though it would be pointless it would still be better that ur gold thing

    SPAM

    • Hi aussman,

We're sorry that our offer comes off to you that way.

    • A wall of spam is generally uncalled for. Even though the deal is trashy.

  • Website look cheap and nasty.

I wouldn't touch it. I CAN'T see how this is a bargin, as others have already kindly pointed out. Neg from me!

    • Hi Shippo-007,

We'd appreciate it if you could give us some pointers on improving the website. = )

  • umart.com.au/newindex2.phtml?bid=2
maybe if it was built like this

    • umart uses frames, you need to link to the framed page (right click in the right area) or it will just go to the front page.

      • umart.com.au/pro/products_listnew.phtml?id=10&id2=78&bid=2&sid=68660

      • I wish I could neg them for bad web design…

  • +1

Holy crap… this isn't even TRYING to be a bargain.
    Rip-off…

  • Since you're open to critism.
WEI means jack all in this day and age. It's too easy to score above 7, even 3 year old gear can smash that barrier. When it comes to gaming you should be using benchmark scores and FPS from different new release games for comparisons. Recommended spec's for Crysis also means jack all. You'd be lucky to run that game on low settings with a computer scoring 5 across the board.

In light of the specifications being revealed, this is no where near a bargain, considering the cost of individual parts available out there. Sure there should be a slight premium for pre-built computers but not to the margin of almost 40%! (With me being nice and saying his total cost is $1300).
This is OzBargain, not free advertising, and I don't see any bargain here, not for anyone.

    • Thanks Trance N Dance, we take your feedback seriously.
