Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro 6GB/128GB Dual Sim (Redmi K20 Pro) - Red $540.55 Delivered (HK) @ TobyDeals

120

This is the cheapest I've seen the pro version of this phone in red/6gb/128gb. No MicroSD slot.

Is it worth over a hundy more than the non-Pro version? Snapdragon 730 vs 855… You decide.

https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=9738&idPhone2…

Crossing fingers it's as good as the reviews say!

There's some doubt in the comments if this is a genuine Mi 9T Pro or a flashed K20 Pro.

Might be worth paying with PayPal so if the seller screws us over, we should hopefully have some recourse.

  • good price! had i known this come down to $540 a few weeks ago, i would have held my breath of my k20 non pro for this one.

No band 28 on this version but otherwise worth it

Although FYI you can get the 8gb/128gb version for about the same price on AliExpress.

    But still a great deal

I thought the 9T and 9T Pro both have band 5 and 28?

Link to aliexpress? I haven't purchased yet so if there's a better deal I'll buy that one!

      Cheers

      • Gearbest lists their global version as not having Band 28 for some reason.

Not sure who to trust at this stage when it comes to sellers.

I could be wrong but this is my understanding.

The Mi 9T Pro is the Global Version and the Redmi K20 Pro is the China version.

The Mi 9T Pro was only announced yesterday - https://www.androidauthority.com/xiaomi-mi-9t-pro-price-1017… It does support B28

But basically every store currently selling an Mi 9T Pro is actually just selling the Redmi K20 Pro with global firmware flashed. Not a true Mi 9T Pro and is missing B28.

The price of the proper 9T Pro will be a fair bit more.

I bought a Red Redmi K20 Pro 8gb/128gb version 2 days ago from this Ali Express Store - https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33031515488.html?spm=a2g0s.9… although it looks like the price has gone up a bit since. I paid a total of $566 with GST shipped + $28 for DHL shipping if you need. There is also 5% cashback via shopback on the pre GST amount.

If you do buy from a seller get the China version rather than the unofficial 'global' version as it's just flashed with multiple languages but can cause issues with google pay etc. Best to stick with China version (which supports english) or get the China version and flash your own firmware.

In India it's Redmi K20 Pro and it's Global Version.

          • +3

@ScoMosas: It's a valid point that I didn't consider above. But the point still stands that the Redmi K20 Pro doesn't have Band 28 Chinese or India/global.

Where as the Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro Global version does have Band 28.

That's my understanding anyway from reading XDA… More than happy to be proven wrong. Just trying to help potential buyers out.

Perfect thanks for this makes total sense.

I'm just gonna stick with the normal Mi9T from geekbuying. Their global version is actually always global bought from them a few times.now

        • The 9T Pro was released in Malaysia and I think HK too on the 20th August. So the 9T pro has been selling for about a month now (ebay etc)

        • +1

best to look for the specific model number for Mi 9T Pro Global (M1903F11G) if its listed in the item description, if the description also indicates 700mhz or band 28 then I guess its likely to be a proper global model

    • Says 700hz (b28) on the specs sheet?

  • +3

But ooooH the shipping to rural oz

    • +1

      Yup. Deal killer

      • +4

Yes - ridiculous shipping. It's bloody annoying because Tobys state that it is free shipping - until you get through filling in your details and get to just before payment at checkout. You have to dig around the site to find the true info and there are a ton of postcodes that don't qualify for free ship.

  • Is there a reason the Redmi K20 Pro being called Mi 9T Pro?

    • Different market. Different name. Mi CC9 is Mi 9 Lite in Europe.

    • Yep, marketing/branding. Redmi is not anywhere nearly as well known in some regions (eg Europe). So they sell it under a different brand. No difference to phone itself…aside from the different logo at back and boot screen.

Redmi is Chinese version so the ROM has Mi stuff. Proper 9T Pro is for Europe and has Poco launcher with google stuff out of the box.

I have Redmi one, Chinese ROM with unlocked bootloader, debloated and rooted with magisk, absolutely love it. Not much leftover mi stuff. Thanks to lots of dev support too on xda.

    • My understanding is there are two versions - the K20 series is Chinese market and the Mi 9T series is international with more radio bands.

Chinese market models have more advertising and tracking in the software. I root my phones and use different firmware so that's irrelevant but for a 500 buck phone, I'm buying the international version to be sure.

Other than B28, I think the Chinese market version (K20 pro) is identical. Wish I could afford to blow another few hundred bucks to try and compare.

Got my dad a 9t from Toby's, arrived just yesterday. Killer phone for the price. Has everything you could want besides microSD.

  • +3

Every time I see "Mi 9T Pro (Redmi K20 Pro)" I'm nervous it's just another K20 Pro with the global rom flashed on to it. Which doesn't magically give it band 28 or widevine L1.

    • -1

If so then wouldn't Paypal look after you?

      • Paypal doesn't look after your time and effort in arranging for a refund, sending it back to China blah blah..

  • does this model support google pay?

    • Yes. Source: Own one and have used google pay.

    • Mine is k20 pro with chinese ROM, google pay didn't work out of the box. I had to unlock bootloader and root and install magisk then edit a couple of files. Love this phone because of the dev support!

  • How long do Toby's Deals take to ship?

Have been using this phone for about 2 weeks now and it's awesome. Was previously using S8+, and it's an upgrade in every way except screen and camera. I would say camera is roughly the same (Decent, I'm no photographer) but the wide angle and telephoto are pretty cool. Screen is also very good but not on par with 'flagships'. Pop up camera is a bit odd and definitely feels like a stop gap, but I don't use front camera often so it's rarely up.

It does have band 28 (You can disable the non AU bands using a code in the dialer, improves battery)
    It does have google pay.

Any questions let me know and I'll do my best to answer.

    • Which model did you get? and what rom you running?

      • Did you get your Mi 9T Pro from TobyDeals?

        • +1

          No, got from Aliexpress

      • +1

        Mi 9T Pro 6GB/128GB (M1903F11G)

Just running stock ROM with Poco Launcher. It seems OK.

        • Was the Poco launcher pre-installed, or you downloaded and istalled yourself?

hippo2s comment above mentions the proper International Version 9T Pro has Poco Launcher and Google Apps pre-installed.

          • +1

@ozhunter68: International version is just standard MIUI including launcher, but it has Google apps so poco launcher can be installed from Play store.

      • Have you tried flash lineage os to your mi 9t pro? was it any good?
      • What is the code to disable non au bands? is it saving significant battery life? can we reenable it later?
      • Thank you so much!
      • +4

No, ROM scene needs a bit more time to settle I think and the stock rom with app drawer is good. It's fast and smooth with hardly any bloat.

*#*#4636#*#* You can set network type for each Sim, you want LTE/WCDMA for Telstra and Optus. You can change it whenever.

        • What's the best setting for voda? I have set it to LTE/WCDMA too.

With a bit more research this is not getting rid of non au bands as you word it. This is just setting the preferred network generation to use. Eg. 4G then 3G. While yes default setting will try to connect to 2G which is now defunct in aus, but this is not 'bands'.

This is usually set in the Sim settings (which it already is available via settings-sim cards and mobile network settings-preferred network type…but using your trick it allowed me to set the phone to always prefer 4G.

I just noticed that it reverts to LTE/TD-SCDMA/UMTS after a reboot. So… remember to do this after reboot or never reboot. LOL

Still a great trick tho, thanks for sharing.

      • You can easily debloat even Chinese ROM easily too.

    • Thanks, looking to upgrade from the S8+ too!

I was hoping the camera would be distinguishably better. How does the selfie cam compare to the S8+?

  • Is the K20 pro or 9T pro the flagship?

  • I just pulled the trigger on this phone via tobys deal, saw a whirlpool forum and the majority of people are happy with their products, not so much the service if they had issues.
