How much extra for 3 phase and double storey?

    • Please email [email protected], and we can quote as per your requirements

    • Read up about it. I makes no sense upgrading\paying for 3 phase.

If you have 3 phase power.
      - Phase 1 - 3 kwh
      - Phase 2 - 1 kwh
      - Phase 3 - 2 4kwd
And say your inverter is pumping 5kw into phase 2.

Basically you meter looks at your overall usage across 3 phases, and charges you for the delta only which is 1kwh.

The other argument is, if I don't have a 3 phase I am clipped at 5 kw export.
Well seriously, how will that be an issue with a 5kw inverter!!
If you had a larger inverter, risk loosing 10c a day. Just have them install on the phase that consumes more than 1.1kw during the day and it's a non-issue.

Premium installers, try and up-sell equipment that makes no commercial sense. Always have the inverter smaller than the system to avoid sunk cost.

      • I have a 3 phase house…

      • Some people need 3 phase electricity. For example, you can't run a decent infinite tankless hot water supply off of single phase.

It's pointless to upgrade if you don't need it, but you don't have much options if you do actually need it

      • Errr or get a 3 phase inverter… Don't know about you but I have 15c fit/kWh so that Extra 1kwh can be worth at times $1 a day..

Smart Metres when configured for 3 phase look at the total draw, and the total generation, if the draw is less than the generation your making money..

why are you taking in more orders when there are so many complaints of people paying deposits, and getting no indication or communication 6 months later?

        • Pyramid scheme?

          • @ravzter: At $50 deposit? Unlikely, although possibly cleaver thinking x% may forget such a minor amount.
But when you read their follow-ups, it seems most of the the deposits are always returned when asked. (yes there are exceptions, but how honest are those people and what are the factors).

I am going to sign-up,with the crap inverter, so I will either be complaining or praising them on whirlpool in a few weeks\months.
But I will have a third-party inspection, post install.

Do your own research on solar installers.
Do not go off Google reviews or Facebook reviews.
Quick google search reveals some interesting stories.

    • +1

Solar Power Nation have some very poor reviews on 'Solarquotes'. Most of the problems seem to be with after sales service or the actual install taking forever.

      • Yeah quick look at this company shows signs of e-solar, eurosolar and other countless phoenix business shut down open up again borderline criminal activities.

Would not even consider just watch others who are stupid enough not to learn.

If you are a gambling person go for it it's your house you can do whatever you want but for those looking for a real offering look somewhere else I don't trust this not one bit there will be extra headaches for sure and these sketchy too good to be true offers always take the risk that can either make you end up with no power at all from the system or worse a burnt down place of residence.

As much as I love a bargain as much as the next guy there are some things you just shouldn't punt no matter how too good it is to be true.. (for me it's expired food and dating profiles and sites lol I'm such a degenerate but I pass on my fails stories to you in hopes you have a better chance at life than I did / do).

  • Newbie question: The $600 difference between this and the default SAJ inverter, is that for peace of mind additional reliability, or better efficiency?
If it was for efficiency 5%,that would make no financial sense.
On the upside ABB have a local office.

THINK TWICE BEFORE YOU JUMP IN

These guys seem to have a woeful track record of taking deposits and not delivering and mucking people around.

Seems to be the Buzztelco of solar. We all know how that ended :)

    • I read the whirlpool trolls.
But yes right to be wary, but seems everyone who complained got their deposits back without issue.
$50 deposit will hardly break the bank, so I doubt that is there business model. Many of the complaints seemed a bit far fetched.
      As to being cheap…
Looking at alibaba and other wholesalers + considering the government credits, I think there is still plenty of cash to be made.
ie: The price - rebates would be around 6-7k. That is almost the price of a small car, for a few panels and an inverter.
The bulk of the solar industry seems to be a big rort to keep prices high. I was quoted 30-40k just months ago from multiple providers.
A quick google on the products RRP, + generous labour allocation + risk, still resulted in huge amounts of costs I couldn't account for.

Is this worthy of another deal post. I don't think so.
But at the sametime, I want to encourage a retailer charging great rates and with a track record of delivery.

My last system was with Origin, and let me tell you that was never delivered on time, failed an inspection (multiple), and impossible to get them to fix anything.

      • +1

was quoted 30-40k just months ago from multiple providers

For a 6kw panel,5kw inverter system? I find that incredibly hard to believe.

But this stuffs bargain basement quality gear (with matching install).. decent gear, with better manufacturer support and warranty does indeed cost more

      • Are you sure about "I want to encourage a retailer charging great rates and with a track record of delivery"

You may want to search a bit more. Just saying… :)

      • For 30-40k I hope the guy is going to clean your bathroom for a year at that price or at the very least a one night stand haha lol

These guys were beyond dreaming that is straight up troll territory.

I have a computer I would like to sell to you for 16k if you are interested it can run minesweeper /s

Literally just the same deal as before with a change in the inverter..
No idea how this is worthy of another deal post…

Plus, previous comments in other post re reviews, quality of gear, deal buster specials etc etc

    • Thoughts on the ABB inverter I was just offered something similar but with less panel wattage overall (5.4kw) but I think same brand string inverter ABB (5kw) but for almost twice the price at $5800 (they tried to pull a fast and sneaky one on my old technology illiterate grandfather figure house member but thankfully I told him not to agree or sign anything and let me do more research because this thing will be on the house for at least 20 years finger's crossed and we don't want to die in our sleep or when we are away by electrical fire or do we hmmshrug.gif)

  • just note that ABB just sold off their solar inverter business few months ago to some italian company

    • The original company for this inverter was Powerone Aurora. It was from…
      …Italy
That being said, I have a 4.6Kw boat anchor in my garage, it started the clicking of imminent failure. Apparently ABB sorted those issues, although was initially pretty poor on warranty.

Got a quote today from Canadian Solar.

    Residential install.

    Single storey, tin roof.

    Single phase.

    5.4kw panels (18 x 300 watt Canadian Solar / KuPower)

    25 year linear output warranty

10 year product warranty on materials and workmanship

5.0kw ABB (made in Italy) string inverter

Fully installed system including solar net metering.

Price breakdown (you will love this)

    Total system cost = $9188
Less STC value = subtract $3385
    Additional cost = $0
Final cost (GST included) = $5800
    Deposit = subtract $500
    Balance = $5300

Don't worry we didn't pay or agree to anything but I let my elderly feeble looking "grandfather" talk to their salesmen to see how much they would try to rort him and it looks like they didn't hold back which is fair enough because my "grandfather" figure looks very take advantage of for everybody haha lol.

But yeah seeing all the details after was very interesting.

So basically $5800 for a CanadianSolar KuPower 5.4kw panel and ABB 5kw string inverter on a single story tin roof in single phase with solar net metering fully installed.

The only thing I could see out of this which was great for us is because they are "Canadian" Australian office in Victoria that have some heavy snow load protection of 5400pa which might be useful for us because it actually did snow today and about a month or so ago only happens few times a year but that is enough for me to consider extreme circumstances and conditions.

Blue mountains can get very cold honestly it is another climate region within NSW like how parts of NT feel like the desert.

So snow performance is an actual real thing to consider for us in Katoomba.

I have not done any research on CanadianSolar but at that price of $5800 for a 5.4kw 18 x 300 watt panel and 5kw ABB string inverter system on a simple single story tin roof installation they better have something good I am not seeing compared to all these other cheaper options.

Anyone more knowledgeable than myself on this matter care to chip in and critique any things in my comment.

From off the top of my head I think ABB is decent maybe honestly can't remember and CanadianSolar sounds legitimate but I have no clue and off to Solar quotes now to check.

Thanks for reading my wall of text if you did always taking criticism on how I can better shorten my comments without reducing the message or coherence of it.

Why is it that 18 of the last 20 positive reviews are all new accounts with 1 feedback only?????

    me smells a rat

    • +1

This is nothing new. Almost all of the solar companies on productreview (indeed many companies) do this.

Can't just trust the rating any more. Have to dig a bit more and read individual reviews to get an idea of what the real story is like. Even many of the 4* reviews seem fake. I generally don't trust any reviews that have 1 feedback only.

This mob has 75 1 star reviews. At least you can confidently trust those ones to be more genuine although going by those alone also leads to a different (more negative) bias as most people with a good experience will not necessarily post a review.

      • +5

also you can tell when a positive review is fake because
        - they write alot
        - describe every detail
        - behave like theyve reinvented the wheel
        - cures everything from cancer to bad weather

        • LOL

    • yeah really worry now after reading those….. fake smells from miles away. all joined at the beginning of september

If you don't want hassles stay away from these guys. Quoted one price and changed it after the deposit was paid. Hence cancelled the contract. Took a while(bit shy of 3 months) to get back my deposit.

  • Zero response from the OP about customer service issues. OP do you want to address these??

  • 6.6KW Solar System with Premium Products Only $2999.00
24 x275 Tier One ET Solar Panels
1 x 5kw ABB Premium Solar Inverter (Made in Italy)

sorry noob question, why we get 6.6kw panel but the inverter is only 5kw? so there is a 1.6kw loss here?

    • It maximises the REC’s. The system will rarely clip.

      https://www.solarquotes.com.au/blog/oversizing-solar-arrays/

    • 6.6kw of panels will only produce full power for very rare perfect day type scenarios (and depending on panel direction, many roofs can't fit them all north facing for instance). For instance youre unlikely to generate 5kw in winter and will only clip for the middle of the days in summer.

Overspeccing allows you to maximise rec rebate and have a higher production throughout the year.

      • Spot on, although there are more benefits.
If you over spec the panels, they more more efficient "ramping up\down" in the mornings\evening\cloudy day and generate more power.
This will normally exceed or offset any clipping. They call this over clocking.

People warn that this makes your inverters run hotter and reduce the lifespan, this may be possible but indications are lifespan is not effected as it is the temperature changes that do the most damage, and undersizing the inverters means they are running at a more constant temp.
        Time will tell.

  • For anyone interested in Solar Power Nation. I can give you my thoughts.
I took up the $2.5k offer for 24x 275w panels and a 5kw inverter, fully installed. I inquired on Thursday, 19th September. After a dozen or so emails back and forth from saleman, and then two or three phone calls, I made the deposit on Wednesday, 25th September.
I received a phone call on the 1st of October from another salesman saying that the panels will be installed tomorrow (2nd of October), and that my panels were upgraded, free of charge, from ET panels to Canadian Solar 285w panels (which I was stoked with, Canadian Solar are ranked in the top 10 globally).
They submitted the paperwork to Energex, as well as contacting my energy provider to come out and put in a smart meter. I didn't have to do anything - very professional of them.

My panels were just installed then. Two guys rocked up about 9am this morning with a truck. One was very experienced, and the other an apprentice. They were not electricians, but definitely knew what they were doing. Took them about 4 hours to complete. I am VERY happy with the job, all neat and tidy, and looks very good. Panels were all brand new, and boxed up on a pallet.

Electrician is coming out tomorrow to install my inverter (SunGrow SG5KTL-D).

Overall, I cannot complain (so far) about Solar Power Nation. They were prompt, professional and the job looks good. Curious to see once inverter and smart meter are in, how much power my panels are producing.

Here is the finished job: https://i.imgur.com/wwQTM9E.png
