  • try if possible before buying. i went into a certain dj store, tried them on, and instantly hated how they pressed against my ears.

    • +3

Good practice. Also trying them in-store can help determine if the sound is right for you.
I think the store you mention is storedj.com.au since they sell / stock V-MODA headphones.

      • Will do next time, good idea btw,

    • Good for people like me, with smaller head.

Btw im sure lots of youngsters who wear beats don't don't what is vmoda :)

    • Yeah that is annoying, that's why it's almost universally recommended that you buy the XL earpads for these

    • V-moda user here: You can actually relieve the pressure on the ears by bending back the metal band.
      Won't break.
      It's what makes it V-moda.
I've done this as well as make it straight and trying to twist the band and it held out.
Anyways, just grab the band and use your thumbs to straighten it then see how it fits against your ears.
      (There's youtube videos on this)

      • Thanks for sharing. Although I can imagine the sales-person getting mad if they saw you do that in-store.

        • Only if they don't understand headphones.
Plus what for it matter they are samples.
          It's meant to do this.
You can put the pressure back by over looping them.

          • @grunge: Yes, but for every display model broken, they have to replace it with a new one.
So depending on the cost of the headphones it can be a problem.
(Some headphones costing $1000+ and if you were bending and stretching them you could as easily grab a expensive pair and break them).

I agree though if you know what you are doing (V-Moda have very tough build) it is ok to test them in-store.

I love my pair of CFW I ordered during the last deal.

I did order xl earpads though to complement them, because stock ones are too thin.

    • Thanks for sharing. Just so others know apparently the ‘Crossfade Wireless 2’ come with thicker pads as standard.

    • Love my CFW as well! How are your XL pads going? Does it change the sound signature for better?

      • it is a bit hard to tell what exactly it does to the signature, I am too lazy and busy to run a meaningful comparison, but it definitely improves the ergonomics of the headphones on my head, I can wear CFW without fatigue for much longer.

  • Are these a good replacement for the V-moda M-80? I've used them for 5+ years and they're my favourite headphones but starting to fall apart a bit nowadays.

    • +1

I have never owned or listened to the On-ear M-80 model or the Crossfade Wireless. But with the Crossfade Wireless being Over-ear, I would expect better isolation from external noise.

From a quick look at frequency response it seems the Crossfade’s have more bass than the M-80’s but overall sound-signature looks very similar (again with more isolation this may also affect how the sound is perceived).
Your original question being ‘are these a good replacement’, yes I would say they are a good replacement as they will sound similar to your current M-80’s.
Also these CFW have the option of wireless (Bluetooth).

      • Thanks I'll give them a go. Hard to go wrong with a wireless pair of cans at this price point, especially from a good brand. Would you say the XL cushions are a must? I find the M-80s quite comfortable despite being on ear headphones.

        • +1

Here is a review for the M-80 I found on Amazon US comparing to Crossfade LP which is similar in design to M-100 / CFW.
          https://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/R3BVXPI5KQM0E6/re…

They describe the M-80’s as ‘much less bass than the Crossfade LP’ so keep that in mind the sound may be less balanced than your M-80’s.

Some other reviews say they prefer the sound with ‘more bass’ while others say they prefer the less bass of the M-80’s.

Regarding XL pads, ask kasaresj in the comment above they seem to have purchased these CFW from the previous deal, and also got the XL pads in Australia.

        • as far as the cushions are concerned, I would say try the original set on first. it you think that they are comfortable, that's great. otherwise they can be delivered quickly for $30+. I found original ones to be too thin.

  • White colour only still available for $163 + Delivery.
