Great find. +1
JB has been selling the 2TB for $114 for a while now.
http://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers/storage/western-digital/m…The 1TB is more of a 'bargain' because it has a larger % off the original retail price than the 2TB, but yeah I'd rather spend a little more on the 2TB.
This is a real bargain, I am still using a 500GB (USB 2.0) one from 3 or 4 years ago I bought for $200. It was the cheapest at the time. Nowadays, one could probably buy a 4TB for around $200.
Exactly how much faster is USB3.0 v USB2.0? There's alot of talk about it — but what's the value in real terms?
10x ?
My USB 2.0 stuff copies/writes ~20mb/s? I just got a new USB 3.0 (obviously you need a computer or laptop that supports 3.0, but yes it is backwards compatible with 2.0 as well)… But with 3.0 I'm getting ~50-90mb/s
So substantially! Or makes copying 1TB 3 times faster! :) Thanks all for your feedback!
3-3.5 times faster ime.
USB3 is 10x faster than USB2.
In real world performance improvements, an external hard drive (with external power) will be around 2-3 times faster with USB3. So, it's a pretty solid improvement. If you want to see a full 10x speed increase, you'd need to use a USB3 solid state drive.
single SSD can't do it, u need RAID SSD. :D
There are single SSD drives out there that are close to the 600 MB/s speed limit of USB3. They're just not available for USB3. Yet.
You won't get more than 35MB/s read/write with USB2.0, no matter how fast the internal drive is, with USB3.0 however using an external hard drive you should be hitting 100MB/s + read and maybe a little bit less write (80MB/s)
Is this USB powered?
Nope
External power supply
Got my 1TB 2.5" USB 3.0 usb powered off ozbargain (digitalstar)few days back for $99 pick up/price match or $107 delivered. Honestly I rather pay the extra $20/$28 and get a 2.5" usb powered portable… That's just my opinion :)
They are now back up to $114ish
Don't 2.5" have slightly lower rpms or read rate, than the bigger ones?
man, you guys are really deprived lol.. its one small profile pic.. the interwebs is full of pics.. or check your facebook
This may not encourage the OP to post more bargains :(
Nice deal. Thank you.
Its a good price for an external. I just don't see whats the use of all these comments in relation to the OP. Honestly guys, back-off. =)
Please - you may think you are funny and clever, but the original poster was nice enough to share and you turn this thread into some boys club making some very personal remarks.
Then one member even starts stalking the OP checking out other details. At least they had sense to realise their mistake and request the post be deleted.
This is a place for sharing bargains, clever comments are welcome, some banter is also welcome, its a fun place, but when you start getting personal, and making comments which could be embarassing to another member, then start looking for bans on your ability to post or even be here.
LOL…oh..my…so many unpublished comments…anyways…is this the new model of WD? sorry just a bit confused with so many other WD deals recently
Aww, wanted to see how many + ca6leguy got for his comment, was at 40 when I last saw it. I guess it's an ok price, jb hi fi and officeworks had the 2tb version for $114 which is better value.
