cheapest i've seen next to DSE's eMachine

    • +4

to be honest i think this is better then emachine

      • agreed, this has newer cpu, more ram and a bigger hard drive

  • just bought the Asus eeeeeeepc last week - wish I had waited for this

  • Bought! Awesome!

  • Interesting that the ebay ad says cash back valid to 30 July but lenovo website says 30 June. Mmmmm!

    • +1

Claim by 7th July though. Looking at delivery dates…I doubt I'll get in time for the cashback. So I guess its best to assume that this laptop is going to cost $459.

      • +1

Correct. Ebay listing says it will arrive between 4-11 July. Also states they will post within 2 days of cleared payment, so it's possible they will not post until Tuesday. Anyway who knows, after the EOFYS are all over they may just go at $409 to clear excess stock.

      • If you live in Sydney, just arrange to pick it up from one of their physical store locations:

        http://www.orangeit.com.au/catalog/contact_us.php

  • Are you sure this qualifies for the cashback offer? The lenovo website shows the i3-370M and i3-380M versions eligible, not the i3-350M

    • From the list of eligible products:

      Lenovo G560

      067968M

      Intel® Core™ i3-350M Processor (2.26GHz)

      Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium 64bit

      2GB RAM (2GBx1)

      500GB

      So Yes it is eligible

      • +1

Sorry about that. I accessed the site using my iphone. The first list didn't show it. The second list did.

  • so if i buy this today I'll be able to claim the cash back? (the cash back appears to actually be a VISA cash card)

    • If you can send the cashback redemption prerequisites in, definitely

  • guys, what is a cash card?
like a gift card you can spend anywhere for goods or service where accept visa credit card?

    • Yep,
since its a visa card you have to spend it at places where VISA is accepted(basically everywhere)

      • thanks.

  • Great Price, be careful with Orange IT though they are quite dodgy and have no customer service skills at all so dont lose your receipt and as long as you don't want any after sales help it should be ok

    • I don't know if my experience was a one off, but in my ONLY dealing with Orange IT, my laptop had a dodgy arrow key. I spoke to them and they replaced it lickety split. So based on that one incident, I can't complain.

    • I wouldn't be too worried possibly. I got one of the Lenovo netbooks through PricesEngine (i miss those deals) and the warranty issue I had was handled direclty by Lenovo.

  • Can anyone shed some light on whether this works with the education bonus? My partner has a daughter in primary school. Can we buy this and claim the bonus amount back on her tax return?

    • Yeah you can.

    • +1

Yes a laptop is eligible. You can claim upto 50% of eligible expenses upto $794 for a child in primary school (ie can get back upto $397 through the tax system) but must be eligible for Family Tax Benefit Part A to be eligible for the tax education refund.

      • +2

of course that advice is general in nature and you should speak to a taxation specialist to clarify the matter for you personal circumstances :-)

        • +2

You got to be kidding. The rules are as clear as day. See the following website for details: http://www.educationtaxrefund.gov.au/index.html

You don't need a accountant for something so simple. Why waste money on an accountant? Firstly, you don't need an accountant to claim FTB Part A. And if you can manage to claim FTB Part A by yourself, you can easily claim the ETF yourself. Grab a tax pack at it will clearly show what needs to be entered and where.

        • Thanks everyone. I've had a look at the link unity1 provided and it all looks straight forward to me, although the amount above is wrong, it's actually $397 for primary students, the $794 is for high school students. So we'll get back $198.50 leaving the total out of pocket expense at $210.50. Bloody good for a quality Lenovo notebook!

        • @unity1, do you realise that the ATO has trained customer service staff that can advise on these matters FOC?

'Specialist' =/= 'fee for service' all of the time! I think Tim's advice is sound…take home message: don't just blithely trust anonymous; however well meaning; comments on forums for financial advice! ;)

    • Sorry, sounds like you got yourself a little confused about what you can clain under the ETR. The wording states: For the 2010–11 tax year refunds may be as much as $397 for every child at primary school. Hence what this means is that the maximum refund you get back for a primary school student is $397. Don't forget you are getting upto 50% of what you claim, therefore, this means you can put in a maximum claim of $794. So, in the case of this particular laptop, you will only find yourself out of pocket by a few dollars.

  • I'm tempted by this as currently using a 5 year old Toshiba which has no battery life! How good/reliable are the Lenovo's?

    • +1

I'd say Lenovo is better than Toshiba

    • +1

i had a $2K toshiba that died after 3yrs. Decided to to go entry level as i will replace it within 2-3 years. I bought this Lenovo last Dec for $599 and so far it's been good except for a wifi issue - sometimes connection will be lost after sleep mode.

      • My toshiba lasts for 5 years and is still running strong after heavy use.

    • I had a Lenovo when it was IBM - its so old that it has a 5gb hard-drive - and it still works! IBM's after sales service was excellent (dont know if it still that good as Lenovo) - they replaced a lot of things under warranty with no fuss). great keyboard and the little red thing in the middle as trackpad is wonderful when youre used to it (more receptive than a usual trackpad). I'll always have a soft spot for Lenovo/IBM

      • +2

@MishyMoo, the little red thing is called a nipple.

    Better then acer too

  • How does Lenovo compare with ASUS laptops?

    • I think asus looks more sleeker relaiblity wise from experience it's quite good too

  • Damn I'm going overseas on 8th. I don't think it will arrive by then. :S

Also, the terms and conditions say "Products must be ordered and paid for within the offer period of 1st April 2011 until 30 September 2011. Claims must be lodged via the website within 1 week from the sale date on www.lenovo.com.au/cashback."

Is it 30th June, 30th July or 30th Sep? Confused :|

    • My guess is that the cashback promo has just been extended this afternoon.

Pretty sure the deadline was 30th June when I checked around 11.30am this morning, but the site seems to have changed its dates to 30th September (purchase) and 7th October (claim).

      • yes it has so everyone should be able to claim the $50 no problem!

        • Bit strange.

          From the T&C page
Products must be ordered and paid for within the offer period of 1st April 2011 until 30 September 2011.

          Eligible products page
          Offer Period: 1 April - 30 June 2011
          Claim by: 7 July 2011

I would think that T&C would trump though.

      • Dont wait until the 7th of October though. You only have one week following the sale date.

"claims must be lodged via the website within 1 week from the sale date"

  • Amazing price if you can get the cashback in time. I only bought my toshiba laptop only 2 months ago for $399 and this has more memory, bigger hardrive, HDMI and i3 processor. Wow!

  • Just picked it up from the York st store. Extremely unfriendly staff. Good bargain on the notebook so I guess I should shut up take the notebook and leave.

Sounds like a case of STFU and GTFO!

This is very good price but be careful when you buy a Lenovo. Just 4 months back I found a good deal from Lenovo for i5 Think Edge 15 laptop. It was $677 but still was a good price at that time as I couldn't find a better deal from Dell during that time. So I ended up buying 2 of them. One for my wife as well. However I found that they are having many issues with it's screen. sometimes it get's blackout automatically for a split seconds. Sometimes brightness goes down even when you use it and again becomes normal colour automatically. One of the laptop screen showed a problem just after 2 months. It's top right corner became white. Then I reported it to Lenovo and they asked me to ship it to them which I did. Then they say it's a physical damage and that's how it get's white on screen. Lenovo charged $340 to replace screen. It was never dropped or damaged. It was almost in brand new condition when I sent it to them. Not a single scratch or even haven't installed anything on it. Only used for browsing few times. I tried sending many emails to Lenovo asking for any proof to show a physical crack. Then they sent me pictures which has white screen but not any physical crack. I ended up paying another $340 to get it repaired but I am not happy with them at all because I was 200% sure that it can't be a physical damage. I would never buy a Lenovo again. The $100 you save upfront is not worth at all. Sorry I didn't see this post before. If you have already bought it be extremely careful with it as Lenovo warranty doesn't do anything if they have to replace any parts. Seems like their warranty only applicable for software issues. Which we don't need to send them anyway.

    • That's a Lenovo horror story. Did they ask for permission before hitting you with that repair bill?
Lenovos seem to have a good build quality but these screen issues you are having sounds like something else altogether, maybe a bad batch or fault with this model?

  • I picked up my laptop this afternoon from the post office. But there is no invoice found. As i understand you will need one for cashback and of course future warranty purpose. I have contacted the seller asking for one. And i was wondering whether any of you guys actually got the invoice? There is no much time left to claim the cashback, as it is required to be made within 7 days of the purchase. Hope they don't screw it.

    • Check the ebay listing. Tells you to contact them for your invoice.

    • This cashback seems like a race against time. If not, it is still a fantastic price. Good luck getting it!

  • No invoice. The level of communication has been horrible. Contacted the seller. I need it today!!

    • Just gave them a call and they emailed me the invoice. Cashback here I come! Although I'd like to correct my post, the "level of communication" was not good only because of their lack of English skills more than anything else. Communication was a bit of a pain on phone as well but I'm happy with them. They emailed me straight up.
