Seems like a great price, hard to believe I spent almost $2000 all those years ago on my 2x24" :)

    • +1

Sigh, things like this are always like that. Exactly 14 months ago, I bought my 20" for $137. LOL.

      • Yeah I got that same deal as well. Still top notch.

      • 14 months from now, either 24" Full HD monitors will cost $79 or 27" ones will cost less than $200

        • more like 41mth from now.

        • Nah, they'll still be 24" full HD at around the same price (or moar), but the technology behind the panels will change.

Think LED -> OLED -> Bioluminescent goo -> Virtuascreens?

Of course the old LED monitors will plummet as do all things…

    • They would have been the ultrasharp monitors which are infinitely better than these ones.

      Those types are still 600-700

      • +1

Yeah, I'd probably take a six year old 2405FPW over one of these. It's great that you can now buy a 24" monitor for a little over $150, but it's a tragedy that TN is what brought us there rather than more cost-efficient VA/IPS or some other advancement.

If you told me years ago that TN would be the entrenched panel tech in 2011, I would have cried. Back then was the promise we'd now be using SED panels with CRT-like colours and blacks…

        • +4

In the 80s they promised us flying cars.

  • Awesome deal - even better that you can get Moneybackco on it unlike the P2411H…

  • I think it is not a IPS monitor, right? Is it OK for gaming with 5ms?

    • It's Twisted Nematic (there is a tech section on the page). It'd be ok for gaming, just not the best available.

      • +2

        TN is fine for gaming.
You only need to move away from TN when you need colour accuracy and a greater viewing angle.

        • +1

TN is ok-ish for gaming. Best for gaming is PVA. Fastest response time.. better colour accuracy. Only reason why samsung monitors push PVA (and that they don't make IPS).

          LoL

  • +1

Can this be use as a TV with a set top box?

    • +2

Yes I did that with a 23" Dell one. No speakers though.

    • +2

Any monitor can be but you need speakers if you want to hear the TV.

You also need to consider that there is no remote to turn the monitor on and off so you need to use the power button on the monitor.

  • How does this compare to the Dell P2411H, picture quality wise?

    • +9

      Both are a TN panel
Both have a Color Gamut (typical) of 81%
      Both have the same brightness
      Both are LED
      Both have the same resolution.

The one here has a Tilt adjustable stand and no VESA Mounting

The P2411H has a Height adjustable stand with tilt, pivot and swivel, On Screen Display and built-in cable management and VESA Mounting Support.
The P2411H also has built in USB ports

I think you will find that both are the same screen so they will both look the same when you are using them.

The difference is that the P2411H is a business monitor with extra features on the stand, VESA mounting capabilities and USB.

I would read reviews on this before pulling the trigger - apparently the colour reproduction isn't great and the sharpness leaves a bit to be desired.

Good for an office monitor, but not much good if you want to play games, watch movies etc.

    • Yes I have found this to be true (compared to BenQ G2420HD). It's still fine for what I want it for though.

  • Check out the review here of the monitor. Doesn't give this a very good rating.

    http://reviews.cnet.com/lcd-monitors/dell-st2420/4505-3174_7…

    • A GOOD is good enough =D

  • I got one of these a little while back (when they are around $200 delivered) - use it for gaming and watching the odd movie - I reckon it's a pretty good picture (going from a 22inch Samsung) - the big letdown is no mounting holes on the back - may not be a deal breaker for most, but had I known at the time, I would have chosen differently, just FYI :D

I bought this model a while ago, for about $200 from JB:

-Viewing angles are terrible, from my normal sitting position the top and bottom of the screen are very washed out.
    -5ms is fine for gaming.
    -Colour reproduction isn't great.
-The touch sensitive buttons are a pain to use. I frequently switch between a PS3 and my computer, and they are unresponsive and very easy to press the wrong section. Thankfully the menu layout on dells are fantastic, which makes up for it a little bit.

I switched to this monitor after my 22" Chimei screen died (if anyone remembers these screens, they are effectively what made large LCD's reasonably priced). Even though it was not a great screen, I would swap back if I could. I wouldn't say I regret my purchase (because I needed a monitor then and there and it was about as cheap as I could get in Townsville), however if you can afford a little bit more there are much better screens about.

    • +3

The thing about buying a cheap monitor is, your expectations should be low. Really low.

      • I couldn't agree more, but a little part of me still expected it to be better than my monitor I bought 4 years ago for $250.

  • Just bought it, hope its good simple office use (web browsing and document editing).

  • +1

Buy 2 and reduces to $125 each with Moneyback and AMEX $50 discount

    • But it says "Limited 1 monitor per customer"

Is there any CODES still valid to get below $100 ?
      Be an awesome bargain.

      • ignore what is says, simply update the quantity at checkout - works fine.

    • I think the website states there is a limit of 1 per order.

      • you can still add more on the checkout.

  • Just a thought - if you need only for documents etc, there is a Dell P1911 hot offer ($156) from Harris Technology:
    http://www.ht.com.au/part/Z1634-Dell-Professional-P1911-LCD-…

I have a Dell SP2309W - which has webcam, usb and microphone - but not comfortable as a regular use device. I think the large size is the issue .

    • +1

Why would that be better? Currently one 24" isn't enough! With the Ozbargain deal I pay $3 more for 24" (vs 19") and delivery (not sure if harris tech is free delivery?) But they do have the 24" for $165 (http://www.ht.com.au/part/Z1636-Dell-Professional-P2411H-LCD…). Not sure how the specs compare with this one though.

      • +2

The one lram99 linked to is a business monitor, the one in the ozbargain deal is a home monitor.

The business monitor has a better stand with adjustents, VESA mounting and USB ports built in

      • Hi - Here is a link to Dell site reviews: http://reviews.dell.com/2341/320-9327/dell-dell-professional…

cnet has not reviewed this but were not very upbeat about the ST2420L.

From Dell website, it seems a lot of happy users. But 24" is a lot of space - so you really need to plan your usage.

Also this model seems to come with more cables and has USB port

Harris does not offer price match like officeworks; but they have good tech staff . You can check your closest store for availability

        • Well I just found these: 19" for $30 (no stand). A bit of a bargain by itself http://www.ozstock.com.au/2807/Refurbished-19-LCD-Monitor-%2…

        • look closely in the pic, it comes with a ghost stand :) otherwise you just have to hold it up with one hand and type with the other :)

seriously though, not bad for those that have a spare stand/arm mount floating around.

    • $156 for a 19" LCD with 1440 x 900 vs $159 shipped for a 24" LED with 1920x1080. I don't need to look into the other details, because it's not even fair to bring it up.

lram99, are you affiliated with them by any chance?

      • $156 for a 19" LCD with 1440 x 900 vs $159 shipped for a 24" LED with 1920x108

There is more of a difference then just the screen size and resolution

If you can read INTO my comments - what I am saying is when all you want to run is office applications there is no big deal about large monitors with high resolution and there is some chance that you may want to watch the occasional movie etc. Large monitors crowd the desk and will not suit everyone - something I learnt from having one (mentioned above ). You can buy alternatives from a range of retailers and online deals.

  • great deal

  • +1

AS stated above. Good deal, but once you've tasted of the IPS, you can never go back.

  • Dell makes pretty good monitors and desktops but for some reason their laptops are so hopeless.

  • 1 year ago, I bought this Dell S2209W 21.5" Monitor Full HD - $137.39 Delivered (40% off) from Dell with free mini Inspiron Dell.

For this time, I am hoping to get a free another Mini Inspiron Dell laptop if I purchase this monitor that Dell is offering at the moment.

    • I bought this Dell S2209W 21.5" Monitor Full HD - $137.39 Delivered (40% off) from Dell with free mini Inspiron Dell.

So you got the monitor + mini Inspiron for a total of $137.39?

How did you manage to do that?

      • +1

I just want the monitor only. They sent me two boxes and I thought the 2nd box would be the base stand for the monitor but it was Dell Mini Inspiron laptop. I checked the purchase order and tax invoice forms from Dell as they added it at the cost of $0.00.

Maybe I may be the person only to receive the last monitor should get a free laptop. Who know!!

  • I wish my laptop can drive 6 monitors…

  • FYI if anyone would like the VESA mount adapter for this monitor, I found a $21.99US + $12US postage (to Australia) one on ebay.

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Vesa-mount-Adapter-Monitor-DELL-S…

Looks like it would work pretty well. Good to know if I ever need to mount it (I just bough one of these monitors) that I can….unfortunately at a cost :(

  • Deals over folks!

  • Order Wednesday afternoon, both screens arrived today around lunch in regional NSW. Very impressed with the service.

  • I got the "Missed you" card from Star Track after i got back home today. I have tried to rearrange a time, but the problem is you can not say "Monday 8-9 am", it will be anytime 9 am -5 pm during a day. I can't ask for one day leave just to stay home and wait for this. So compared to this, i would prefer a post office delivery, at least they open early in the morning and Saturday mornings, so i could go and get it at my convenient time.

Anyway, I have set it up Friday week— that is the nearest day that someone will be home whole day :-(

    • +1

If you fill in the card they left for you then they will leave it when nobody is home

      • But leave it outside the apartment? No, it probably won't be there when i got home :-) Only if they can leave it to the post office, but i don't think they are affiliated with the PO.

        • but i don't think they are affiliated with the PO.

No they are not, only AAE can deliver to the post office.

That is why i always have valuable items sent to my work. I know someone will be there to sign for it and it stops it being left at my door where it can be stolen.

      • I called them up and you can't do this for this order for some reason. Auspost and DHL both allow it but someone reason startrack wont, at least from dell? I am also in the same boat :( Do you know if other people can sign for it?

        • +1

Anyone at the address should be able to sign for it… I've had a friend at my place sign for a delivery once.

        • Yes anyone can sign for it

  • my order was delivered as well as moneybackco tracking is on

  • got the monitor this morning, i was pretty surprised how big it would be compared to my old 19". too bad MBC still hasn't tracked it.

    • too bad MBC still hasn't tracked it.

I have lost around $100 from things not being tracked over the last few years.

  • Got mine today. Very impressed with the image quality. Also pleased to see that it came with both a VGA and DVI cable. I expected only a VGA cable.

  • did you guys receive any track no.? and which delivery company dell use ? thanks alot

    • You'll get an email with it. Dell uses a whole heap of them: Toll, DB Schenker, Australia Air Express - depends on product and location really!
