I have done some researches and with the similar price tag
not a lot can do wide angle
most $40 range outdoor cam are only 80 degrees angle of view
      while this is 110 degrees

I bought this camera in late June this year during amazon flash deal
no issue so far except the motion detect push notification is super sensitive
(It even send me notification just because sun light direction change)
So apparently there's no PIR motion detection at all

However, one good thing about this cam is it support most streaming protocols such as RTSP and ONVIF
so I can easily take the stream recordings and live stream to my Synology NAS (surveillance station)
which also allows me to watch all my live footprint from the Synology DS Cam app

@kungbernard you seem to be all over things like this so I thought I might ask you instead of the billions of articles that conflict each other online. Is there a way to set a camera like this up to sort of recording software with a hard drive to record footage 24/7 and if so is there any software that you recommend?

        • I'm keen to know as well. It's not hard to rip a camera off the wall and there goes the recording.

To record videos on cameras, normally wifi camera uses micro SD card to store motion detected footages (not 24/7 due to the capacity of the sd card)

In order to do continuous recording, you need a server or NVR (Network Video Recorder). There are 3 main ways to do it:

          1. Buy an entire NVR + camera set which already comes with the NVR server with internal hard disk and the cameras. This type of product can either be wired (via PoE lan cable or coaxial cable / or wifi ) Eg. the Swann one that has the server and 4 cameras in the box

          2. If you prefer not to buy a whole set but just use your existing Ip cameras, you can use a NAS (network access storage) to record streams from the camera. Common well known brand are Synology and QNAP, both have their own surveillance station and mobile app. Note that to do this the cost might be high given that you need to buy the NAS, the hard drive and the surveillance station license (eg. Synology comes with 2 cameras licenses, any additional license is around 80aud each)

          3. Same as 2 that you want to use your existing Ip camera, instead of buying a NAS, you may also setup a NVR using an old PC / laptop as a NVR server. One well known software is BlueIris (around 120aud). You can install the software and hook up to 64 Ip cameras. The main drawback is you will need to keep this PC/laptop on 24/7 and also need to make sure it has stable power supply and good condition hard disk.

Found a pretty good comparison YouTube video between BlueIris and Synology

      • Say, kungbernard… During your research, did you happen to learn if there are brands better than others in quality? i.e. A good picture ok, but I more mean having a long lifespan, being robust where vibration is concerned and not degrading in sunlight, rain, etc.

Application: I'd like to fit a camera on the outside of a truck, and a large monitor on the inside. So you have the same view from inside as if you were looking out a window. I've thought about mounting the typical ones with their own bracket but it sure makes them obvious.

Then I thought maybe there are flush/surface mount ones you insert into drilled hole, so it's virtually invisible unless someone is specifically looking for it.

Anyway - thinking out loud, LOL. The brand/quality/lifespan is the important thing. Maybe then I'll see a solution I hadn't thought of.

  • Does this work with Google home hub

If only these things could be powered by Eneloops…wiring them in seems to be the hard bit!
