    Rockpool Dining Group Spend $100

Do the workers there have to pay the difference?

  • +2

Wow didn't realise so many places under Rockpool group

  • I've never owned an Amex Card before. Any recommendations on which to get that have no costs or costs are subsidized by bonuses / offers?

    • Theres only one for that, the AMEX Essentials card.

      • +1

You’re forgetting the Qantas Discovery and Velocity Escape (for fee-free)

        • -2

Ohh tell tell? Got any links to what these offer/ where to apply?

    • Are you getting the card for these offers or you’re getting it for the points? It seems a waste getting a fee free card knowing you have to wait 18 months later to get another sign on bonus from Amex.

      • Well the bonus points and perks are a bonus but these cashback offers are going to be the main focus. I dont plan on credit rolling over (pay off straight away) and the points gathering for whatever reward would be from everyday spending/ not a frequent spender flyer etc.

        • Some of the fee cards are WAY better in terms of perks, I pay… $375 a year? but my sign up bonus was 100,000 velocity points (free return flight to LA!) plus a domestic return flight on any Virgin flight (but not quite all the country, depends where you are) for free, plus free travel international insurance, plus free rental car insurance coverage, plus I earn a bunch of points for spending on the card.

Ive flown to the US for basically nothing twice now on my card, plus a few return domestic flights, and probably paid like $1000 in yearly fees, which sounds like a lot, but Ive had a few thousand in flights alone.

So essentially you're going to get the cost of the water back.. Took the wife to Rockpool Sydney for our anniversary last week and were shocked when we were charged $10.50 per person for still water from the carafe :O

    • +4

you should have told them to go f- themselves. tap water at any venue that serves alcohol cannot charge for it as per law.

      • +3

Always ask for tap rather than still. Tap water will be free but still water may have a hidden cost. And of course prices will be hidden on the last page of the drinks menu in some bottom corner.

        • Yeah every restaurant I've been in my life when the waiter gives you the choice of still or sparkling, still water has never been charged.. more than likely cos it was tap water. Ah well i now know to be more wary of this in future!

        • We was charged $3 per head for tap water in Switzerland…

          • +2

@donamique: How much were you charged for the difference between was and were?

    • Must have been different in Sydney. I went last week at Crown Melb, and asked specifically for TAP water, and it was free.

    • +1

      Rockpool Sydney is crazy expensive.
      Overrated IMO

    • +1

      Good deal op
Went to Atlantic, crown melbourne, got charged for water, without being informed of the cost not informed there is free option.

W: "what would you like to drink?"
      C: "water"
      W: "Sparkling or still?"
      C: "Still, dont want sparkling"

Amazed, nowadays, it becomes an "opportunity to make customer pays more when they are not aware" question rather than common drink question

      • +3

Nowadays I always say "tap". Or just be blunt and say "whichever water is free".

      • -1

I don’t know how people can NOT be aware of this. It’s common sense.

You say tap, you get free tap water.

You say “still”, you get bottled water and they charge you.

Wait staff don’t stop you to ask about the cost of every item you ask for. Your drinks are no different.

  • Might treat myself to 1 t-shirt from Mr porter… Bargain.

  • anyone know if you can buy gift cards at Rockpool or is it online only?

    • +1

I just got a gift card at the Argyle, the amex surcharge was 1.3%. It's not something they do often. Even the manager had to get someone to show her how to sell a gift card on the machine.

A good way to spend it is via the eatclub app. Some of the restaurants have 50% off at certain times of the day. It includes drinks. Some of their restaurants are on thefork.com.au at 50% off too but it may not include drinks.

Some places have generous happy hours too, $5 for 500ml beer + some munchies.

      • niknak, did you get the AMEX offer after buying the GC?

        • +1

Not yet, but I called them to confirm that everything was ok and they said it was good. They said that it may take a few weeks. In the offer's terms, it says…

Credit should appear on your billing statement within 5 business days from qualifying spend but may take up to 90 days from the offer end date.

  • +2

It's more like a $18-19 cash back. Almost all Rockpool dining places also have a 1-2% surcharge for credit cards. Tell me if there is one that doesn't.

  • Will this work for main card and supplementary cards?

    • As long as you register each card and each card has a unique card number, yes
