  • Can i pay my tax/BAS with this?

    • via pay.com.au or Sniip I guess

    • +2

You can use it to buy Visa/Mastercard pre-paid cards with $0 activation fee or during a promo at Coles/Woolworths and use those to pay your tax. 0% fee on the ATO site for those cards and you earn full points (2.25 per dollar) on the Amex.

      • I thought you still incur a fee by the ATO for paying via Visa/Mastercard

        • Changed recently. No longer a fee.

          • +6

@Milkywayss: They discovered charging a fee wasn't exactly legal so they took away the surcharge and made a law saying it wasn't illegal in the past no takebacksies.

  • can someone explain what is the actual benefit for below 2:

1.complimentary Accor Plus membership valued at $395 p.a.
    2. access to the American Express Fine Hotels and Resorts program, which provides complimentary benefits at over 1,300 five-star properties worldwide valued at an average of $800 for a two-night stay

  • +1

just trying to justify the $1450 per annum fee, beyond the points is it :
    $400 Travel Credit
    $395 Accor Membership
    $400 Back per year

And, then is it $800 for a two-night stay ? So in total about $2000.

    • +1

      priority pass?

      • VA lounge access as well if you fly with them (except no on arrival access) - that's $450/year if you held membership directly which does include the on arrival access.

    • +1

Another benefit is a supplementary card holder gets alot of the same perks including most lounge access.

You also get reimbursed for prime membership.

This card is best suited to people who at least travel a bit each year.

    • Generally if you don't travel (and use the airport lounges), wouldn't worth it. The $800 should only be counted if you book those hotels (luxury hotels generally).

      • Yeah theres no point if you don't value status of some kind. I found value in the hotel status - having been upgraded rooms and late check out etc.
I also find Priority Pass pretty good. Probably worth $30-50 per entry IMO - depending on the lounge.

      Its $450 travel credit

Just to be clear, the $400 back per year is for dining and its $200 Australia and $200 overseas. The two night stay ($800 value) is if you book via FH and its a free night after a minimum stay (I think its minimum 3 nights?)

Personally, this is how I justify the annual fee (though I am on discounted AF)

      • $450 travel credit (always used)
      • $400 dining credits (always used)
      • ~$300 value IMO Accor free night (always used)
      • ~$300-400 value on hotel status / upgrades (FH program gives US$100 site credit where I normally stay)
      • ~$600 combined cash backs using Amex (flights with United, Qantas hotels, Ampol, etc, etc)
      • $70 Prime membership
      • $450 screen cover on phone (once a year)
      • ~$100 PP (its the basic one and only use it when I dont have lounge access with airline)

FMWV but I think its worth it. Lets not forget the points earning - I just did my LTM spend its over $250K so that 562,500 points which is roughly $3K of value on top.

    • Purchase insurance/guarantee is important and I've used the amex offering.

Travel insurance is important and I've used the amex offering.

I used amex points for travel, and the discount from that alone has far exceeded the annual membership cost.

      • Do you mean you get discounted flight tickets when paying with Amex points?

        • +1

Sometimes there are discounted fares exclusively for amex customers, but in all cases, I pay for flights using amex points right down to $0.

  • When they say new members, would supplementary holder eligible for the offer?

    • Yes - as long as meeting the 18 months (sit out) criteria.

      • I would assume if the supplementary holder is currently still using the service - will not be eligible for the offer?

        • They are eligible, they are not a cardholder and, I assume, haven't been one in the last 18 months otherwise you would know the answer already

  • Anyone knows what happens if you already have accor plus, does it extend for another year?

    • I waited until current Accor Plus expired and then processed free renewal through Amex

access to the American Express Fine Hotels and Resorts program

This is a great perk if you're thinking about getting the card imo and trying to get value from it, an example of staying at InterContinental Sydney for a staycation/overnight:

    12pm check-in, when available
    A one-category room upgrade at check-in, when available†
    Daily breakfast for two
Unique Amenity: US$ 100 Food and beverage credit to be used during stay
    Complimentary Wi-Fi
    Guaranteed 4pm check-out

If you book the tier below the lounge access, you can get upgraded to access to the lounges using the room upgrade. So, you check in at 12pm, head to the lounge for afternoon tea foods and drinks overlooking the gardens or habour, after that hit the pool or something, before you know it, it's 5pm. Back to the lounge for cocktails and nibbles, once that wraps up, well you have $100USD of food and beverage to use, so better get some more drinks in somewhere. When you get up the next morning, head to the top of the building for your brekky overlooking the harbour, go check out something around the city, come back for the afternoon tea again and then you can check out at 4pm.

And the above hotel can be booked using the $450 travel credit, double dip for the win.

    • Interesting…. I have never booked a AEFHR hotel, mainly because they are so much more expensive than other hotels and with the free Accor membership, I tend to stay at Accor hotels which you will need to book directly with for the max benefit/price.

Might look into the FHR program a bit more after your prompt. Cheers.

      • I've checked in at 5am once at Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur using the FHR when our flight landed at 4am and with the USD100 credit so got a free massage session on top of that.

    • +1

This is correct. For some reason, you can't seem to get it cheaper elsewhere - its only a Amex deal.

There was this other loophole last year where Langham would also give you $200 back if you spend $800. So some of us had the opportunity to book via AEFHR (but pay at the hotel), get the above benefits and then get $200 back…

The US$100 credit was A$145 which you could use for food, drinks and spa service.

  • Can the travel credit be used at hotels?

    • +1

      Yup, from T's and C's:

"You may be able to use the Travel Credit on the American Express Travel website as payment towards Fine Hotels + Resorts and The Hotel Collection, if the selected hotel and room type provides you the option to prepay in advance. Benefit available for the Primary Card Member only to redeem in a single booking. For bookings less than the total travel credit value, any unused portion of the Travel Credit will be forfeited. The Travel Credit cannot be carried forward to any subsequent year."

  • What's min credit limit and min salary?

    • It’s charged card, no limit my friend got approved with 60K income

      • How did they benefit from this card on that income?

  • +2

Important to note about the flight credit:

I'm assuming most people taking these deals are looking for Qantas points, to redeem the travel credit you need to book via the amex site, which means that Qantas flights are only sale fare tickets, which means that you cannot apply for an upgrade. Additionally, because it's not booked via the Qantas site you must pay extra to determine your seating location which can be an issue for families or couples who want to fly together.

  • any tricks with this?

    my plat is saying 50k/150k

    • Its targetted unfortunately

  • damn i still havent cancelled my platinum card to do take this on. i'll probs take this on without bonus points because its such a long wait

  • would I have to cancel my current Amex cards and wait for 18 months to have any shot at getting bonuses like this?

  • is this the metal one ? looks niice . used to be in black before .

    • The black is the centurion card; which is metal and is a tier above this one.

    • this one is also metal though, just not black.

    • Yeah I have both, both are metal and nice
Centurion has a matt black finish which is slightly nicer

  • It’s been asked before but mixed responses, has anyone managed to get the points when they’re an existing cardholder but only credit not charge? Is there any special process to follow?

  • Anyone know the minimum credit limit u can set?

    • +1

It's a charge card so there's no minimum or maximum limit you can "set." It works based on your spending power, which is determined by factors like your payment history, spending habits, income, credit score etc. Note that since it's not a credit card, you need to pay off the balance in full each month (revoke your ozbargain license if you don't already do this)

  • I just checked the Term & Condition and the Reward Transfer page through the link above.
Please correct me if I am wrong, but it seems that:
    1) "up to 4 free Additional Cards for family members - they can enjoy some the card benefits in their own right, like elite hotel status, travel insurance, and one Priority Pass membership." The Term and Condition seems only refer to Primary Card Holder to get majority, if not all, the benefit (especially lounge access)
    2) "transfer points to 10 airline partners, including both Qantas and Virgin Australia". The Transfer Partner page only refers to Velocity for Australia Airline (Qantas not included). I believe for Qantas Points we need Qantas Amex Card.
FYI, I have a Qantas Amex card and a Citi Card which gives me Priority Pass. Will love to swap one of my cards with this one if the description above is correct.

    • Only 1 supplementary PP from memory but Amex or Virgin lounge are happy to let you in as long as you have your Platinum on hand so all 4 supplementary should be eligible.

I think elite status for hotel should work for all supplementary too (from memory)

  • Do these still come with a companion platinum credit card (used to be the platinum reserve) it was never listed as a defined benefit in their list of perks; but you got it if you called up and asked for it.

    • You can still get the reserve card but no extra $400 travel credit

      • ah i guess they closed that loophole.

        • Still grand fathered for us existing users :)

  • I'm pretty dirty that the benefits are randomly set either per calendar year or per membership year or anything else. I've missed out utilizing some, and others I have spent thinking I would receive credit. The chat reps are a-holes and don't care.
