This plus a fast OS M.2 drive - cable free!! Thanks

    • That's my exact setup, I have a 970 Evo Plus as my boot drive.

I got one of these.. have been using it as a Photo storage/games/Lightroom/Premiere Scratch disk,

It's perfectly acceptable for all use cases, EXCEPT if you need to deal with more than around 15gb ish of data… whether you're reading from or copying to it… at around 15-20gb mark, it will slow down to a crawl! not much better than a traditional spinning HDD…

but if it's just burst of data transfer here and there.. it's perfect!

    • "at around 15-20gb mark, it will slow down to a crawl! not much better than a traditional spinning HDD"

What would you recommend for that?

It was like a dollar cheaper yesterday. I can't in good conscience buy it at today's price. Opportunity missed.

    • I paid $310 a week and a half ago:(

I feel like the dream of a SSSD (Steam solid state drive) is becoming a reality.

If you can't fill 2TB at bare minimum then are you even Steaming?

      • +2

agreed, i filled my 6TB WD black, and have a lot of crap not installed at the moment….4 of these on a pcie card would be a start :)

      • Hence 'becoming' but not yet a reality ;)

  • Just curious, why's the box square-ish, what else is inside?

      Plastic and air.

  • If I'm not in an urgent rush for this, is it worth just sitting and waiting to see if prices drop further or is this likely to be the bottom for the next six months?

I see local sellers like UMart claim to have it on sale but it's $379 (save $443!)… dreaming right?

I think this is a really good price and you should get one if you need it!

Seems like the prices are fluctuating daily based on the USD/AUD exchange rate.

I decided to sit and wait as I ordered the 970 Evo Plus as a good boot drive for my laptop, but will debate between this and a QLC/cheap 2.5" SSD instead for the desktop since I don't need NVMe speeds for Steam. (I have a old PM981 lying around which will do great as a boot drive in the desktop)
