Telstra Prepaid 12 Month SIM $200 (150GB Data, Unlimited Calls/Text, Intl Calls to 20 Countries) @ Telstra

7320

First time posting so be gentle.
Just noticed that Telsta is trying to stay competitive with Boost etc.
Original price $300 - slashed to $200 for a 12 month Plan, with 150Gb of data. 20 Countries with unlimited international calls.
Seems to be a very good deal considering that Boost is actually more expensive (but… less data).

WHATS INCLUDED
Unlimited calls and texts to standard Australian numbers.
$100 Extra Credit for international calls and texts, roaming and premium SMS.
All inclusions for use in Australia

btw - You need to scroll down to see the offer.

Anyway, Enjoy.

    • On Telstra here. Central to Redfern very slow data during peak hour, and then from newtown to lewisham is often patchy as well.

      • I wonder why is that? I used to go through the same stations (but from shire up to Town Hall) and Kogan (which uses vodafone) works exceptionally well. That must be very annoying especially if you are paying top dollar!

  • -1

I wonder if Boost will react and put a discount on their 80GB/240GB plans?

  • Currently got prepaid Telstra freedom plus. Can I just simply buy this and recharge?

  • Does this include AFL like postpaid Telstra plans?

    • Yes. Says it on the webpage

  • Two questions ghyat

1-currently have boost can I use this to recharge? Or will I need to port

2- if I. Port do I lose afl and nrl that I had with boost?

    Cheers

    • This has afl & nrl

  • Would Telstra and Boost be identical in terms of quality of the network?

My friend signed up to the boost deal and has complained about some call drop outs, I was just wondering if he'd have the same issues if it was Telstra.

  • Is the data calculated per kB or mb?

    • i've also asked this

    • +1

No provider will calculate by MB now. all KB.

  • FWIW Telstra can move your number from post paid to pre paid, I spoke to a rep earlier who said it couldn't be done, but I tried again later last night.

It took being transferred 5 times until I asked for a supervisor in online chat but they moved my number last night, when I got up this morning I was on prepaid with my number retained.

    • What was your previous postpaid plan? 24 months, 12 months, month to month? I am on 12 months plan and the only option I can see is to first convert to month to month and then to prepaid to avoid early termination fee. If I convert directly, I will attract early termination fee.

      • well done Bakelite I tried last night and they had no idea.

      • It was a 12 month plan, expiring 31st July.

Seems the bottom tier chat agents have no idea what to do hence why I was passed around 5 times, the supervisor had it done within 15 minutes

  • I am assuming that unlimited calls include calls to all Australian mobiles.

Can someone please inform if unlimited calls to "standard Australian numbers" include 13xx/18xx numbers ??

Telstra's Critical Information Summary is very ambiguous. Doesn't make any mention of 13xx/18xx numbers.

I chatted with Telstra chat support and rep said that 13xx/18xx are premium numbers and they are not included in unlimited.
    That's very unusual.

    • +1

Can confirm it includes 13 and 1800 numbers, I swear telstra live chat reps don’t even know what they are offering

      • Thank you. Very helpful. Wish I could say the same about Telstra support or website. :)

    • 13xx &18xx ,I believe it’s incl, I am using the the telstra prepaid and postpaid account,

  • If with Telstra, you can't port your current number to this deal. Only have a new number. confirmed with online chat. Sucks!

    • You just port to optus for 24 hours and port back. Easy!

      • which optus deal to port to?

        • $2 prepaid sim card. No balance

          • @ashftc: I thought it required a minimum $10 recharge.

            • @TomGum: Not necessary. You can port in your number to a blank prepaid sim card which will cost $2. Fastest way is to pop in to any Optus or Vodafone store and get it done.

              • @ashftc: The link below says… "Recharge required to activate SIM at a minimum cost of $10"

                https://offer.optus.com.au/shop/prepaid/sim-card/2-sim?

                • @TomGum: I haven't personally done myself. Will be doing it today or tomorrow. Will try Vodafone first as someone here posted porting is quicker with VF. Pretty sure, if you visit instore, they will be able to do it on blank $2 sim card

                  • @ashftc: A hint with Vodafone….. When I activated a $2 Vodafone sim, it asked me to sign up to a prepaid plan ($10 being the minimum). I had to proceed using my credit card. But luckily I ported out within 2 hours and I didn't get charged $10 on my card yet.

                    • @TomGum: Guess even $10 is a fair bet because this deal is too lucrative to miss out for such a small amount.

        • +2

7 eleven have the Optus 10 Dollar sim
For half price on their app.
Listed on sale till 05 August 2019.

(Just an fyi for anyone wanting quick and cheap sim)

          Need app for barcode.
          and a 7eleven nearby 😊

    • I just spoke with A### on live chat. He confirmed I can port my existing - off contract - number from post paid to prepaid.
      1) Buy the prepaid (going nowhere at the moment)
      2) Go to live chat with the SIM details
      3) It gets added to the existing account with the same number

That all being said - just buy a $2 VF SIM and port across, then back again. VF ports are quick, I found the Optus ones not quite as fast however YMMV

  • I'm currently on an old postpaid plan but this seems like a great deal. Do you also get $300 credit for use on premium numbers in addition to the inclusions or you have to buy additional credit?

  • On data usage part, if we exceed data usage 150gb say by end of 9 months or 10 months then what are the options to get additional data ? $10 datapack for 1 gb ? that will turn out to be sooo expensive ?

    • +1

Purchase another recharge or look at your options and move to another provider. Boost might have a better deal in the future

      • That's the plan. Try and manage. If can't, then move out. This is Prepaid

  • yeah, another telstra farkup, been trying to buy two of these and it just keeps failing in paypal or cc payment section, what a surprise.

  • Can someone please confirm which are the 20 international countries included for free in this deal? The link on the telstra's website is not opening for me. Thanks.

  • Can anyone confirm if this offer is available in Telstra Store? Can't afford to wait for sim delivery

  • Nice price. Shame it's not available as a 12-month recharge on an existing service, Still $300 for that.

  • +1

just bought $200 - porting in from optus prepaid - Your order is complete !PPST321xxx

    • What's the expiry?

      • +1

havent received the card yet in mail.. just put in the order this morning and got confirmation email.

    • @abhi900: Awesome. Can you tell us a bit more about your port? Was it straight forward? Had to talk to anyone? Any issues? Thanks!

      • i am waiting for sim card to arrive and when speaking to online chat the rep gave me an activation link and said there is option there to choose bring in ur number or use a new number or alternatively call them or visit instore to get it ported and activated.

So will see how it goes once i get it in my hand.

  • Thanks got one

  • Interested to see expiry date on actual sim,
    Hopefully someone can update.

  • Pay with Paypal had issue. Keep looping.

    • Yes I am having same issue, did you sort it out?

      • Not yet, may be pay with Visa will help?

        • The online chat said to try again in an hour but i am not sure they taking it seriously, trying to say its my problem, pointed them back to here and others having issues. I want it to come from paypal as I have money in there I never use

    • Having same issues with PayPal. Tried twice.

  • Was about to go with Boost then saw this. Perfect amout of data and Telstra (yes I know boost is basically telstra) but bonuses every now and then will be cool.

  • oh no, just made a switch to Boost from Telstra yesterday

    • +1

      Switch back!

  • Catch connect $4.99 for 30 days with 11gb data. For anyone looking for prepaid sim for porting purpose and need some data during work in progress

    https://www.catch.com.au/product/catch-connect-30-day-mobile…

    • Thanks! Bought one. Porting from boost > catch should be pretty instant right?
      Actually came to $4.90 shipped

    • Thanks! Was planning on $2 voda sim to port out the current telstra prepaid and port back in with OP's deal later in Aug. This will come in handy for sure. :)

  • +1

what a joke, just got my 2nd sim card ordered on this deal, only 4hrs of effort, telstra really are just incompetent with everything they do, sadly still best mobile coverage by a mile

  • I am currently on Telstra prepaid that expires on 30th of Aug and here is what I am going to do. Please let me know if I got anything wrong.

    1. Buy this $200 telstra prepaid sim on or before 5th of Aug.
1.1 Tell telsra to send me a sim with activation expiry set to sometime after October 2019
1.2 Order catch $4.90 sim on the same day
    2. Port out to catch for 30days on 30th of Aug.
    3. Activate the $200 sim and port in on 29th of Sept.
    • Port your number to other service and come back , very easy. No need other step.

    • Don't you need to buy the new sim and port out the same day?

    • Ditch 1.1, change 2. to "Port out to Catch as soon as it arrives", and 3. to "Activate the $200 sim asap". This will prevent any grief or issues, and your existing Telstra settings like messagebank may still be in place for the short time you port out then back in again…

    • 1.1 Tell Telstra to send me a sim with activation expiry set to sometime after October 2019

this step is non-existent as Telstra cannot guarantee the sim that they send out will or will not expires after October 2019

  • I've currently got my family on kogan prepaid plans which will expire on 31 July. There are 5 sims in total which are all under my name /account. I was thinking of switching to this for everyone but note that there is maximum of 2 sims per person? Please forgive my ignorance but does anyone know the best way to port all 5 numbers over to this deal?

  • Online - out of stock. Any advice, where else we could order /buy.

    Thanks

    • +1

      Ozbargained 🤣

    • +3

The live chat agent said that Telstra will restock the $300 sim card tomorrow.

      • Didn't happen. And rep told me today they don't know when. :(

  • I am sure I saw you could order 2 per person yesterday - can someone point me to where this is?
Telstra rep trying to back out of my order saying I can only get one?

    • Ordered one for myself, then tried ordering one for my SO. Checkout page just kept looping. Tried different computers, cards, banks, wi-fi, etc. Nothing stopped the loop. Contacted live-chat and only got: "try again in 24 hours". I suspect it's linked to the same address?
24 hours later and they're out of stock… Your question remains to be unanswered.

      • Update: Actually I think the rep was making up the 1 per person as the first thing that came into his head, trying to explain why there is only one in the order that has been shipped. My other order has not yet been shipped but he is now backpedalling and saying I "should" get the other one from the other order.
I have two order numbers in two receipt emails from Telstra last night, one for each order, but only one shipping notification for the first order.
I actually also had the looping experience last night after paypal when ordering on my phone. I did not get a receipt or order number from this one, and did the other two orders on my pc.

    • "$30 SIM and $300 SIM offers: Online only offer available to customers who purchase by 5 August 2019 11:59pm AEST. The discount is applied at checkout. Limit 2 per customer. Offer not available for commercial or resale purposes. Not transferable and not redeemable for cash."

      see here

      • Thanks - I have saved a screenshot of that page in case they try their 1-per-person shenanigans again.

  • Glad I bought this at lunchtime today. Thanks FencePost for the post :-)

  • Asked Telstra rep why there is a delay in receiving confirmation emails. She was saying like they are overwhelmed with the number of orders they have received in the last couple of days and that's the reason for the delay.

I couldn't understand her logic as an IT pro unless there is some manual process involved in sending emails.

I placed my order at 3pm today and still no confirmation. Checked bank, $200 deducted at the time of the order.

    Out of stock? For reals?!

    C'mon Telstra.

    • All credit to op’s first post and ozbargain effect.

Just spoke to a rep online regarding the Sim being out of stock:

    Bakelite

     at 23:32, Jul 24:

Just wondering when the $200 12 month 150gb Sim will be back in stock

    Erick

     at 23:32, Jul 24:

Nothing to worry, it will be back on stock within 1-2 weeks.

    Bakelite

     at 23:32, Jul 24:

    At the same price?

    Erick

     at 23:32, Jul 24:

    Yes.

    • Isn't that going to bust 5 August 2019?

      • +1

It would appear so, but then further up on the thread someone else said they were told it would continue on into November so who knows?

I've saved the chat so if it does come back after the end date at full price I'll try my luck and use it as evidence.

        • +2

          I've saved the chat

One of Ozbargain's Bro Codes states that ye shall shareth.

  • About time Telstra started supporting esims for prepaid services, I’d jump at once if they did!

  • Oh nooooo. I cancelled my existing plan with Telstra and ported out to port in for this offer. I will be left out of nowhere until this is back :(

  • +3

Spoke to their online chat, they seem to be pretty confident that it will be back in stock fairly soon. Asked them if it will be before the 5 Aug cutoff and they said yes. Will see if that happens as I really want to ditch VF

    • Thanks

      • Still waiting, annoyed as I couldnt purchase because of the paypal issue the other day.

  • Can anyone confirm while purchasing this sim card, does it ask for keeping the same number or assigning a new number or so or the number assigning thing happens during activation after the sim card has arrived?

  • +4

Got mine in post today. Sim expiry April 2021 for those asking

    • Did you put a comment requesting longer dated expiry?

    • Got same expiry Apr 2021 kit received today, I did not put anything in notes or any request
