Ouch. I wish I'd waited for this (to price match with a local retailer) instead of buying the Sony 65" X70F for $979 during the Prime sale. Quantum Dot and the general better quality is worth it.

    • -3

You'd take this over a Sony? Is it actually better or the price better?

      • +10

The Sony was $309 cheaper, but it's a cheap quality TV. The Hisense P8 is known good. Take everything great about the OzB favourite, the P7, and add Quantum Dots and better speakers.

I've already bought a sound bar for the Sony, while the P8 speakers might be just good enough for our typical TV use.

If the Sony was an x90f or x95g, then it'd beat the P8 hands down. The x70f is a different story.

        • -1

          You mean like this one
          https://www.jbhifi.com.au/sony/sony-x90f-65-4k-uhd-android-s… $1488.

It doesn’t seem to have Dolby Atmos though.

          • +3

@entropysbane: That's ex-display price though. Why would a TV have Atmos?

        • Wow. I had no idea hisense was a decent brand now. I guess they've evolved over the last decade or so. Always thought of them as jb home brand like soniq

          • +3

            @Bloodfart: https://www.canstarblue.com.au/technology/tvs/

Hisense rates third (after Sony and Samsung) for Australian buyers.

          • @Bloodfart: Not a decent brand. It has become a very good brand, producing TVs which is cheaper and equaling the PQ of TVs which are twice the price.

Reason why the p7, p8 and other hisense TVs within the last 3 year's have become Ozb favourite.

TCL on the other hand… still a average Soniq like brand, with some higher end additions.

Doesn't look like there's any in SA for either pickup or delivery

One or more items in your cart is not available for delivery to your selected address. Please remove the items, or enter a different address and try again.

  • Any P7s left about? Edit: preferably new

    • Search shows only ex-display

  • P9 also available in 65” and 75” though at a premium over this model.

  • Do does this do 100hz over 4k. Just thinking about next gen consoles.

    • +1

Not a chance add another 0 to the price maybe

      • What about 100hz at 1080p cos that be the max next gen will hit and Does it do 4k 60.

        • That depends purely on the panel they are using which is up to you to do the research on the information will be available. Only a handful of 4k panels let you do anything over 60hz on lower resolutions and even then it's not guaranteed to be worth doing.

        • I think next gen will definitely have hdmi 2.1 or newer, so 8k60 and 4k120 (or 8k50/4k100) would be supported.

This hisense tv does 4k60, but I don't think it does 1080p@100/120hz.

Here's a list of some tv models sold in North America that do 1080p@120 and/or 1440p@120.

          https://www.rtings.com/tv/learn/what-is-the-refresh-rate-60h…

Even the top hisense model with 120hz panel only supports resolutions at 60hz, but I'm not sure if the Australian models are different

    • Next gen consoles wont go over 60 hz 4k lmfao

      • No but they will go over 1080 60hz

For the TV noobs, how's this rank? Obviously not the same class as lg oleds but a high quality led? Operating system?

    • +2

Can’t compare to OLED. Good LED although OS is laggy with no updates. At this price point hits the sweet spot.

      • yes no updates is not ideal, specially as they didn't bother backporting Amazon Prime. But in terms of laggy - I have P7 and it's been a very snappy OS, albeit somewhat limited.

      • As someone who owns a 65" P7 I can vouch for the OS and update issues.

Hisense panels are great for the price but I would recommend plugging in an AppleTV or a Chromecast etc. if you plan on using Netflix and the like a lot. UI is laggy and hasn't received an update in the 4 months I've had it.

        • I just got a Fetch Mighty for my mum from my ISP yesterday because the new TV has crap smart features. I'm impressed with the Fetch. It's pretty slick.

Mum's figuring it out quite quickly. The remote (3rd iteration) is brilliant. It integrates both FTA live TV and catchup TV not quite seamlessly, but still far better than having to change input sources like most android/apple/whatever TVs.

I don't think it does Amazon Prime Video, so maybe I'd have to pair the Fetch with a Chromecast or Android TV box (Xiaomi or even new Shield later this year?) for my own setup, but overall the Fetch is better (and better supported over time) than I'd expect from any smart TV.

Also, the Fetch Mighty is a rental from my ISP (and probably yours too), so if it craps out, loses support, or is superseded, then I can change it out.

    • +1

This would be a very good choice especially partnered with a nvidia shield or vodafone tv. Im still using a 2016 Hisense 65m7000 with deals like this its hard to resist.

    • So use as a dumb TV?

    • +8

I paid $2000 for this P8 last Xmas (reduced from 2400). I don't notice any lag. It boots quickly from standby mode directly into Netflix. I can get to the Media menu with one click and the picture quality looks great to me (coming from a Panasonic 1080p plasma).

      My PS4 Pro looks awesome.

For this price, i have no problem giving it a 10/10.

      • Same, scored a VideoPro deal at $1600 in December and it’s been insanely great. It had a small static buzzing sound when in standby after two months, and I called Hisense and they sent a repair guy around a few days later who replaced the main board and it was good as new. No issues since.

Excellent TV. PS4 Pro, Apple TV 4K etc. all look good. $1200 is an awesome price for this TV.

  • All I want is a 55” Hisense TV at a good price.

    Too many 65” + deals!

  • Suppose to be good viewing angles on the P8 compared to P7, for anyone who cares. I don't have personal experience with this TV. But I do know that poor viewing angles drive me insane!

    • Actually viewed it from an angle last night for first time since I had a visitor. Picture looked abit brighter from an angle but was still OK.

  • +1

Thanks Op. Just grabbed one - stacked with 5% off Suncorp rewards gift cards

  • +2

    This deal is Nonsense.

  • Stupid JB Hi-Fi wont deliver to my address. I highly doubt these things fit in a standard car. Does anyone know if you can lay the box flat?

    • +1

I believe they have to be upright as well.

      • Can anyone explain why though, LEDs shouldnt be effected by laying the TV down. Also the boxes have so much foam in them they shouldnt flex.

        • +1

wouldnt lay any TV down these days

          • +2

@Whatupyo: Funnily enough, my Dad bought a Samsung LED a year ago from JB at Miranda and they said it had to be upright for transport (he was going to lay it flat in his wagon to drive home) so he opted to have it delivered based on their advice.

Delivery guy turns up later that day, and pulls it out flat! My Dad called and complained and they refunded him the $70 delivery charge.

            • +1

@Slave1: should of also ask them to deliver a replacement , just to give it to them ;)

        • I think it is because how thin the screens are and to reduce any change of the panel flexing and breaking during transport. Also if it laid flat there's a chance of someone unknowingly loaded something on top of it?

    • +3

If you look on gumtree there are people you can pay with utes to deliver this. It was actually cheaper to rent a guy and his it ute on gumtree than to rent a ute from Bunnings. Amazing service too… $35 to deliver it for me.

      • +2

Pay someone $35 to steal your TV?

    • Screen is thin and heavy (without any major support). Would recommend keeping it upright but that's just me as a noob.

      • Whats with people using noob these days like its hip

        • I've been using "noob" since Everquest gaming days so it ain't new. So old, I'm hip, woot!

    • Pricematch it with Retravision, Harvey Norman, or someone else who does deliver to you.

      • Not easy to find anymore. Harvey Norman does not list it anymore, Retravision doesn’t list it at all…

Betta seems to be clearing it as well and MAY price match. But prob not. :(
        https://www.betta.com.au/hisense-uled-tv-with-quantum-dot-hd…

        • They're not on the website, but if you walk into Retravision, then your local store can supply.

I asked my local about the 65p8 just before the Amazon Prime sales. They could get them and they quoted me $1995 I think. Just shy of 2k certainly.

          They'll price match.

    • Just put the TV on the roof of your car and get a cable rope to tie the TV.

  • What's the peak brightness of P8?

  • Good deal. Would buy if they would deliver to Tasmania or had any local stock.

  • Just snagged one thanks oz bargainers
looking forward to it as upgrade from a 54" Panasonic Neo Plasma

  • They were showing Dunkirk on Samsung RU7100 and P8. The Samsung looked much smoother. No idea why, could be the settings?

    • +2

never trust in store display setups. Always tailor the best picture to the most expensive tv's/those with biggest margins. I find them all over saturated with all kinds of unnatural looking smoothing settings on

    • Likely had motion processing on (which I always turn off even if it isn’t “bad” motion processing.)

  • Can anyone help out with the VESA mount dimensions on the back of this? I have a wall mount stand thing from Ikea that says it only supports up to 55” but thinking that if the holes are the same layout as my current TV and the Hisense weighs less, I should be ok to have it mounted on the same bracket.

  • Been using the 75" version with a PS4 pro and also streaming 4k content with Chromecast Ultra

Amazing picture quality and no input lag. Netflix works flawlessly too

    10/10

    • How's the HDR content?

  • -3

So is this tv ULED and QLED? :P

    • -3

Thanks for the downvote lol. I'm just saying that their ULED range starts with their 7 series, and the 8 series adds quantum dot layer and presumably blue LEDs instead of white. I'm surprised by their restraint in not marketing this tv as Q-ULED or something

  • What a deal. Hope it comes up again when I have the $$

  • I bought 65p8 from Geelong store. And got the price down to $1250. And about the stock availability u can actually ask staff to order it for u so u dont have to go and pick it up from the DC

  • -1

This should be taken down as there are only 4 stores left available in Aus….

  • +1

Ordered one yesterday, does anyone have a setup for the P8?

  • So if I'm in Melbourne and can get delivery is it worth grabbing this or spending $500 more for the 2019 R8?

    • +2

No more stock of this one in Melbourne. Only shows Shepparton as nearest location. Maybe consider the R8 as it has newer OS, Bluetooth and apparently better display with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos.

Is that worth the extra $500? You decide :)

  • +2

    In case anyone reading this.

Mine arrived today, all set up. I'm moving from a 1080p Panasonic plasma and I am very happy with my purchase.

Much brighter. Once smoothing turned off very happy with everything. Now going to be spending my life tracking down bloody 4k content.

    • When did you order yours? I ordered late Thursday night. Have been charged but haven't been called about delivery.

      • I ordered 5am Friday. Hadn't heard from them by 2pm on Friday so I messaged them via the link in the order confirmation. They jumped on that pretty much within the hour.

        • Thanks, I'll give them the hurry up

    • I was looking to upgrade from my old 1080p Panasonic Plasma too. How do FTA channels look?

      • Hi. Haven't set any up as yet. I'm all in on streaming now. Have to say that standard 1080 videos look better and brighter Vs my old Panasonic so im sure it'll be a decent improvement.

    My experience with JB:

I ordered a 65”P8 late Friday evening. Apparently the last one in eastern VIC. Come Saturday morning I receive a call that the stock is not available and stock level was incorrect.

The Manager promised to call around other stores to check for stock to be delivered from elsewhere. A couple of hours later another call, no stock VIC wide and only display models available (expect those to be discounted soon further).

Manager was the nicest person and I honestly believe he did understand that it was an unfortunate situation and mistake on their end. I went to the store in person to look at the 65P8 (never had done so before) and to discuss other options (if possible). Finally, after about 1-2 hours chat with the manager about different TV models from all kinds of brands and all kinds of technical aspects, we came to an agreement for me to purchase the later Hisense R8 model from 2019 for a reduced price (I was also offered a slighly better price than listed for the Hisense OLED and a Sony Q80G, but decided on the R8).

I did not expect this outcome and had already given up. The moral of the story is indeed that similarly to what was written during an AMA by a former Jb hifi staff member recently, there seems to be a higher desire by JB hifi to provide good customer service and to have happy, long-term and returning customers. This is contrary to some other stores like Harvey Norman etc. that do not try to accommodate when their stock levels are incorrect. I will definitely consider buying from that particular JB hifi store in future if I need something. Even if it’s a few $ more expensive.

Being nice to each other and respectful can sometimes play out positively it seems. I certainly was treated as a valuable customer which prompted me to write my story here to anonymously thank that manager for going out of this way to promise me with a new TV for a great price.

Note: during my discussion with that manager I never mentioned ACCC or threatened with any other legal measures. Just was honest and even mentioned ozbargain deal etc.

Thanks OP for posting deal in first place.

    • How did the R8 compare to other TV's in store?

      • +2

Since they play TV demos from the manufacturer on each one it’s very difficult to compare apples with apples.

Even the hisense next to each other were displaying a different demo depending if it’s a 65P8 or the 65R8.

I tried connecting tv to internet via my mobile to stream something but due to bad reception in store gave up. I had previously checked the reviews on the R8 and while being in store looked up the review for the Sony.

The R8 review from gadgetguy (https://www.gadgetguy.com.au/product/hisense-2019-series-8-r…) encouraged me to pay a bit more than my initial budget and buy that one instead.

At the end of the day it depends on how much you wish to spend. If I could have gotten an LG B8 for $2K I would have bought that. So yeah money is a factor in my decision. R8 cost was in my range of what I think it’s worth.

        • +1

Plus, the TV's have their display settings on demo mode and under bright fluorescent lights, not what you'd use at home

    • Agree , having great customer service and someone willing to assist and understanding your situation , gave both a win/win.
Its not that hard these day to provide great customer service , all you have to do is listen and provide a successful outcome :):)

    • Ive only had really good experiences with jb reps, that is if you manage to chat to one if theyre not too busy or busy chatting to their mates lmao

  • Just went to JB-HI VIC and they had none, looked around Western VIC and most had 1 which would be their display model (as I found out calling The Glen store)

  • *****WTF***** , P8 on JB website Now down to $1094.00 , i just purchased at the last deal of $1288 , how do i go about complaining and get my money back.
Considering a day ago they had no stock.

    • +1

JB did the right thing and refunded me the Diff , Well done JB

  • TV seems to be again listed on JBhifi website for $1288.
Unlikely to be much stock floating around but always worth a try if you really want one.
