  • Which would be better these or the Logitech Z623 ?

    Thanks

    • Also curious how these sound compared to Logitec

    • From a quick look, the Edifier's obviously don't have Sub (2.0) whereas the Logitech's lack tweeters. IMO, it's easier to add a Sub to a speaker setup than a set of tweeters…

      • Yes you could add a powered subwoofer by using a splitter cable from the source.
You need to add the cost of the cable & a powered subwoofer (I think the Logitech system including sub goes for around $70-$80 on sale), although I would expect marginally better sound from these with a subwoofer.

  • +1

While these have only half the power of the popular Edifier r1280db’s and have less low-end (r980t: 12w x2 70hz-20khz / r1280db: 21w x2 55hz-20khz), I guess at $68 (half the regular price of r1280db) it is an acceptable price.
I would recommend going for the r1280db when they are on sale (~$115 Delivered), double the power, better low-end and optical / coaxial input is worth the extra price IMO.

I would go with Edifier R1700BT over R1280DB which was on sale for $129 two days ago.

      • Yes I am trying to recommend for ozbargainers, and from previous comments a lot of them requested optical input like on r1280db (preferred to go for r1850db over r1700bt for optical) to connect to TV.
Maybe in direct comparison r1850db is the next model up from r1280db.
I am sure they will work with analog input for TV as well, but optical seems to be important for them (maybe more inputs means they can connect more things and switch between with remote).

        • R1280DB was compared to R1700BT alot as their price are close. R1700BT has been selling at a higher price to R1280DB the gap is getting smaller. R1850DB has a 50% higher price tag.

I agree that R1280DB has more inputs but the R1700BT sounded better to me and has more power. I use bluetooth most of time with my R1700BT but the sound quality from RCA on R1700BT is as good as R1280DB with digital if not better( this is just my own opinion and I did listen both before bought R1700BT).

          • @xmchen: Thanks for sharing your experience.
Yes requirements is different for everyone and during sale all models prices becomes closer.

        • Any hacks for controlling the r1280db using an LG OLED tv remote with optical ?

          • @Krustycustomer: Try adjusting the TV volume with LG TV remote while listening with optical.
If volume stays the same, the other option is to connect the 3.5mm headphone output of the TV to the AUX input of Edifier using 3.5mm to RCA cable.
Then set the Edifier to medium volume, and use the LG TV remote to control the volume for TV headphone output (the TV headphone out is sometimes fixed volume, and in TV settings there should be an option to make it become adjustable).
