The main difference is this is a larger/heavier 17.3" (vs 15.6") laptop. It is lower in the model line-up (G3 vs G5), but has some better specs…

If you're happy to use a 17.3" laptop (~3.27kg), it's definitely a great deal providing it's offered at the same price as the G5 15.
Wow then definitely take 17" omg… The extra HDD ram screen maybe worth $400? It's already heavy just make it as desktop replacement. You still can carry to friends house if travelling by car
Am I the only unlucky person who thought the order was secured. Then missed out….. I will not move or carry the laptop around so extra size and weight isn’t an issue. Looks to me G5 has much better fan design. I am worried G3 will get overheated easily. Anyway, got no choice but to accept the replacement laptop.
@cheaper: I received an email with order tracking number but yeah wow that upgrade does seem like a good compromise. Especially the larger hard drives and ram upgrade …. hmmm wanna trade :)

@Canetoad: So i got my order number and status this morning from dell. My laptop is built and ready to be shipped. No upgrade offered to me but i'm super happy with what i'm getting. Keen to give it a go!
@krammis76: Great! I just got mine too with no upgrade.
The upgrade option maybe something to do with Ebay plus. People with Ebay plus gets first preference and no upgrade due to the guarantee. Anyway, that is just speculation. I have Ebay plus.

Not me, i've got the email saying it's been sent. But i'm assuming it's being sent from where it was put together to dell then they will have to ship it to me. Hopefully i get mine before the end of next week as i'm heading out of town and would love to take it with me.
Finally I have received the shipping information for my G3 17 today. However, I still need to wait for shipping tracking number from the local courier. Hopefully it will be delivered soon.
I got that almost a week ago for my G5. Still nothing from my local courier yet though. The wait is killing me!

@krammis76: The status is a bit misleading, even though it show Hoxton Park, NSW to your Suburb, but the real status should be Malaysia to Hoxton Park NSW, because the item hasn't arrived in Australia yet since a week ago.

Got mine today and I'm located in Perth WA. Not a bad laptop but there are no spare ram slots, it's 2 x 4gb sticks. Booted the laptop and only 64gb free of the 128gb.
Anybody knows if upgrading the ram or ssd will void the warranty as I will need to remove the back cover.
I don't think you will void the warranty of the laptop itself. If you have problems and Dell need to perform diagnostics then you may need to put back the original parts so don't sell them. I am hoping the ram isn't soldered type, plan on upgrading this myself. HDD may be full of bloat software. I will just reformat the SSD when I get mine in a couple of days.

Just got my laptop delivered. Looks pretty nice. Had issues with interntet speeds though and facebook wouldn't load properly. I have a 50Mbps plan and i ususally get around 45Mbps with my desktop computer. With the Dell i was getting 10 and it would never go higher. Tested with my ipad right beside it and was stuck with 10 down. Plus my facebook would sign in but randomly give me SSL errors. Turned out to be an app that dell had preinstalled for me that was the issue. SmartByte, so if anyone else has internet speed issues that's the first thing i'd check. Drove me crazy for an hour before i worked it out. Apart from that the laptop seems pretty great.
Did you get a local courier tracking number before that you can actually track the progress?
Nah mate i didn't. I got an ebay email saying it was sent but no tracking. I was going to ring dell today but to my surprise it was waiting for me today when i got home. Hopefully yours comes soon!

Apparently the Intel wireless card in the G5/G3 is pretty average (can't recall off the top of my head - check the Dell packing list or specs online). I've gone ahead and ordered the following so I can install it right away:

The 'Tech Specs' tab for the eBay listing has the following:
Wireless: 802.11ac 2x2 WiFi and Bluetooth
Driver: Intel Wireless-AC 9560 Driver
So it looks like the G5 already has an Intel 9560 2x2 Wi-Fi card.
Ohhhh - spot on, you're right. I actually received the replacement G3 offer - it however does have the sub-par 9462AC.

Got the Laptop, well build, the screen is good for what I need, brightness is not bad, and not good, it's OK.

Saw someone posted the g3 17" replacement from this thread on ebay (mentioned bought g5 but sold out and offered g3 replacement by dell bla blah bla).
Sold via auction at $1275 including insured shipping.
I hope he got free listing promo from eBay otherwise all those trouble just for $50ish profit
My G5 has been sitting there since I got it. Have probably used it for an hour max. Figured I’d use it as a lounge room computer but got a new iPad mini just before and it’s so much more convenient to use. Might sell off the G5. Impuls buy for sure! Lol.
If you're experiencing slowness issue with Wifi:
-Slow Internet via Wifi - Remove or disabled SmartByte.
-Slow download files via Wifi from NAS, Network drive, or other PC etc.. - Upgrade from Windows Home to Windows Pro will resolve your issue (atleast for my case), I have spent hours trying different drivers for Windows Home…same issue…Just upgrade to Windows Pro.
I am loving this new laptop. Upgraded ram to 16gb and m.2 drive to 500gb. Running my game like a dream now.
How much was the ram and which ones did u buy?
