Are you referring to the Woolworths Qantas credit card? I guess this deal would be for people who want the Qantas rewards only without the additional credit card and its fees.
Unless things have changed, you can get free QFF membership if you have a registered Woolworths Everyday Rewards (EDR) card; i.e. that "orange card" (which is also for free). It is not a credit card - just a rewards card, kind of like a loyalty/VIP card.

QANTAS is one of the very few airlines where you have to "pay" to become a member… No wonder they are in disarray…
You have to pay for Air New Zealand's Airpoints membership as well.
Oh yeah I found out about that this year :( I had free membership before but this year I logged in and it seems that if you don't fly with them that often, you get slapped with a membership fee each year :( I don't think that's very nice! Pity, because their actual airline is fantastic.

WRT the value in paying for membership: I don't think many people do pay as there are so many promotions that waive the fee.

It should say "Qantas Frequent Flyer" - the word CLUB is used with Qantas Club that requires a separate fee
Couldn't you always join for free through the Woolworths Everyday Rewards program? That is how I joined without a membership fee.
