Murica right now is a real gambit. Better off going to Vancouver

    • +5

Also, Barcelona where tourists get heckled by locals to go away.

      • +2

Or robbed whilst waiting to cross the roads by local crims.

Many people have been robbed of their phone/watches/wallets whilst out on the street.

        • +1

Only place I’ve ever been pick picketed. Fortunately they dropped my wallet because there was no money in it.

        • +8

You're gonna have very limited places to travel if you rule out areas you might get pick pocketed. Might never leave your house tbh

    • +2

You didn't see the news the other day?

      • More worried about being detained and imprisoned than an unlucky bystander

  • +13

Los Angeles. New York and Barcelona are three of the most expensive cities to visit now, particularly for Australians.

    • +4

      And risky for tourists!

    • Whats why its cheap and getting cheaper.. Demand and Supply.. 15% drop off ppl flying vs same level supply = cheaper

  • +1

    Supercheap!

  • +5

Got one for $2593 with December/January dates on the Singapore airlines website from Mel.

  • +23

make your own way to New York

    Anything from El Salvador?

    • +1

“Is this make your own way” means we need to find another local flight to arrive there in order to fly next destination?

      • +2

        Correct.

    • +2

      Anything from El Salvador?

      Inbound only but free accommodation!

  • Very goooood deal!!!!

  • +25

I'm old enough to remember when around the world meant around the world. Not 2 legs you work it out yourself.

    • +12

Yeah seems really misleading to state "New York —> LA" and "Frankfurt —> Barcelona" when it doesn't include those flights.

      • +1

LA to NY is around $200AUD (JetBlue or Delta).. You can find cheaper Frontier, but they are zero frills and you will end up paying same once you add in luggage etc. I would recommend JetBlue though.. free wifi and snacks included.

Frankfurt to Barcelona, no idea what that costs but probably less than 500 is my guess.

All said and done, $1800 is more like $2500~ once you factor those legs

      • I can highly recommend the greyhound bus from LA union station to NYC port authority terminal. Was a highlight of a previous trip to the land of the free. If you can deal with that then Barcelona will be smooth as.

  • +9

I don't want to think about how you would go with a RTW ticket booked through an OTA if you had any disruptions. It's even more important than ever to book direct with the airline on a round the world itinerary.

  • +3

Great price, but I hope you survive flying to America

    • +1

      Make America Dystopian Again!

      • you have to read more mate… people arent rushing or making plans to the US for plenty of reasons.. I have canadian and european friends from Uni and they all say stay away…you wont know what dirt they'd find on you… it could be a vague "negative narrative" you innocently post and long forgot you did, can be used as "anti-american" and denied entry at immigration.

        • +4

          America is the new China?

          • @runamuck: Man tbh China is way safer, just that it's not a tourist friendly place (except big big cities)

        • -8

Mate I just came back from holiday/see family in States 3 weeks ago with my kids and it was fine. Maybe you read too much and need to experience more. They call it all cock and no balls syndrome.

          • @Gavman: no wonder, you;re probably the extension of the MAGA fanatics and thats probably why they could identify their own.

        • +2

I recently flew back from LA and it was fine. There are tens of thousands of people entering and leaving the USA every day, 99.999% of them have no problems. Enough with the doom posting

          • @Ononono: Yeah but if you are the one with the problem you will be out thousands of dollars. Frankly not worth the risk. Especially as the destination is America.

      • depends how you feel about Trump and MAGA - I've read of US border officers proudly saying stuff like 'Trump's in charge again'

if you like him - enjoy.

if you find him repugnant - you might feel he's turned the US into 'one of those shithole countries' - and plan to never go there again until he's history and hopefully we haven't suffered WWIII thanks to his narcissistic selfishness.

    • +3

If you discount the hysteria/propaganda, it's really just business as usual..

  • +6

no interested in murica - glad did it when things were much down to earth.

  • +11

Not round the world if the flights don't fly into then leave from the same place !!!

    • -3

nonsense neg. I am not long back from using this fare. It was $3300 in PREMIUM ECONOMY and I bought the other two legs to fill in. Best flight deal of my life.

      • +3

In that case, do you think a flight that leaves Oz, flies you to LA, then leaves from NY and flies you over Europe and the middle east is RTW?

        • -3

For me at this price yep. You can argue semantics all you want, but there is no better deal around at the moment.

  • +3

i am NOT going to anywhere in the US in the next 4 year atleast.. you;re be randomly detained, questioned, phone searched (you;d have to give you pw and TSA has the right to go through your SM and emails) and let go if everything checks out.

    stay away…

    • +1

      Source?

    • Fearmonger harder

  • Do any of you guys actually travel for holidays? Reading the above, it seems like it all is too dangerous, expensive, crowded etc. etc.
Live a little. Maybe find out for yourselves what the world is like and not just from the internet.

    • +1

yea go on. please do us a favour and try it out. report back.

      • +2

I'm in China currently, I think I might, see how they react when they see all the red stamps in the passport.

        • -2

'red stamps' - you wanna go from China to the US ?

          "Live a Little" … dangerously!

(please report back on what the inside of a US detention centre looks like)🤭

          • +2

@Hangryuman: You guys are just so melodramatic!

In China for work, been in and out over a dozen times. Don't worry, the sanctity of OzBargain has not been breached by a foreign national.

Nothing wrong to living a bit dangerously. I'm not necessarily talking in the case of going to the USA in the current political situation but you do have to get your adrenaline somehow. And as dangers go, I do not think it will be the riskiest in the world right now.

      • If you listened to the doomsayers here you'd never be able to go anywhere.

        • +2

the world is bigger than you'd think. my point is to only avoid the USA.

go visit googlemaps once in awhile. might help you expand on your geography. seems abit lacking in that area.

          • +1

@ruztynail: Sorry, where did I mention geography?

I'm very well travelled. I don't live via fear and propaganda.

Many threads about any country here will have people who have never left their rural town in Tasmania telling the forums with great authority how bad xyz destination is.

            • +1

@wetsandwich: sorry its going towards a direction where i have to educate/explain in very basic terms/english.

              You have a nice day.

  • +7

One of my friend visited US from Germany, they took his laptop for search purposes, released it after a month, he had to arrange delivery to germany on his own. If someone has to go and care about privacy, take a new mobile with you instead

    • -6

      Why? Suspicion of what?

      • +1

Arrested on suspicion of not liking Trump

    • +3

Yep. I know academics who travel regularly, and many now refuse to travel to the US. Their advice is that if you have to go, bring a burner phone while keeping your main one in your suitcase. This is the reality right now

  • +6

pity the flights go through US. id consider otherwise

    • -2

Plenty of great places to visit in the US, go to the National Parks

      • +2

its not that theres nothing to see.

  • Are there any deals like this over the Christmas period with a UK stopover please?

  • +3

Homeland Security used to be an ordeal before Trump, and I'm an Aussie senior citizen. The elderly children's book writer Mem Fox was detained and interrogated for hours… again before Trump. Take your chances!

  • +2

I like the stories of people who voted for Trump now suffering huge loss of income due to his tariffs

'but I voted for MAGA - how could this happen … !?!?!?'

  • Where’s the flat earthers at?

  • For the LA to NY leg i can highly recommend crossing Canada on the Canadian then the Maple Leaf to NY.

  • I am seriously thinking of buying one. What activities do you recommend in LA, New York (7 days in US) and routes from Frankfurt to Barcelona (10 days in EU)? I think I can manage trips in Japan. Travelling alone.

  • As someone who lived in UK in 2006-2008 and travelled extensively through Europe….times have changed…is it even safe to travel anymore
