Very good spec for the price!

  • +1

I'm told this comes with screen protector and (cheap) case fitted. Outstanding.

    • +1

Just curious where/how you found this information - would you elaborate, please?

      • +2

I think all current umidigi phones ship with a polycarbonate case and screen protector fitted. My f1 did

      • +1

        Can confirm. Current owner :)

        • How do you find it? Do you tinker with your device at all?

@illumination: DON'T BELIEVE THE TROLLS POSTING: I already put this on the other OZBargain forum thread.

I received my A5 Pro Breathing Crystal this week.
I had very low expectation that come with these type of lower tier android phones, but after playing around with it for a few days id say its better than expected.

Background: I purchased this due to low price and features to be a placeholder until I purchase 2019/2020 iPhone. Coming from iPhone6 (running 4yrs strong), I havent had a need to upgrade my phone due to poor offerings in the last few years (all phones are virtually similar, nothing super innovative except all these camera and screen ratio debates (oneplus7 pro, S10, p30 pro)).

            Pros:
            - Tear drop screen is pretty awesome (1080p)
            - Build quality is surprisingly on par with iPhone6 (metal & glass)
            - CPU & GPU havent had any stuttering or slowdown unless with graphic intense games (Dota2 Underlords, PUBG) or unsupported (Fortnite Mobile).

            Cons:
            - Camera app is absolutely empty (photo, video, beauty, bokeh). It is slow and laggy especially switching between main & ultrawide. Would be great if there was a GCAM port to add functionality and night sight.
            - Micro USB obviously not reversible so that is annoying (lighting or USBC are convenient but 1st world problems)
            - Speakers arent amazing but get pretty loud (tin related at max).

Havent tested camera outdoors or the call quality as I have yet to swap sim over till my 256gb Microsd card arrives cause 32gb is severely limited. Only customized it to look like a pixel but, time will definitely tell if this thing last.

  • Umidigi.

How many phone companies are there?

    • Get on the internet and look at the online seller and you will see 😐

    Argh no nfc

Wanted to get one for my myki

It seems hard to believe (decent) phones can be this cheap

    • +4

I bought a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 for $145 back in Sep 2017 and am still using this today. It was also available 2 weeks prior for $10 less at $135.

For its price, it absolutely and definitely is a decent phone.

I feel like this is probably the closest equivalent (price-wise/value-wise) in recent times on Ozbargain.

      • +3

Yes I too purchased a redmi note 4x for about $150 a couple years back for my wife. Only downside was the lack of stock Android. Still a great buy, except that my wife smashed the screen in 2 days of owning it. It's hard to see why anyone would pay $1000+ outright for a new phone when mid-low end devices keep upping the specs. If you're not into mobile gaming (if you can call it gaming) and don't need Instagram model photography then these budget devices are king

        • +3

          Yep I agree.

I've been using LineageOS on my Redmi Note 4 for over a year, so I have very much a stock android feel.

To me, the shortcomings have been:

          • 16GB storage is just not enough - but that was my choice to buy a 16GB phone and it was one of the most obvious shortcomings
          • Camera - I'm absolutely not a camera person and I do not need top level photography, but after a while, it did become obvious to me that the quality was lacking
          • Power button is a little unstable. It sometimes doesn't pick up a press, and sometimes picks up single presses as double presses

          And then being nitpicky:

          • Only has MicroUSB - but not something I'd expect at the price I paid.
          • Lack of dedicated microSD slot - but that is only relative to this phone. It's very rare to find phones with a dedicated microSD slot these days

I think it's aged much much better than the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2, which I used before it, with the most obvious improvement being longevity of the battery. By this point in time, my Redmi Note 2 was probably going from 100% to flat in a few hours.

At the end of the day though, it has given me absolutely fantastic value for money.

It's hard to see why anyone would pay $1000+ outright for a new phone when mid-low end devices keep upping the specs.

          Totally agree.

This (or the UMIDIGI Power, posted in a previous Ozbargain deal) both actually look quite tempting. My biggest concern about these relative to the Xiaomis/Redmis would be a lack of custom ROM support.

          • @illumination: I never looked into lineage roms as my wife didn't seem to care all too much, but friends also speak highly of them

It's a shame these umidigi devices don't use snapdragon chips - I think that's the reason why custom rom support is lacking.

Currently though I can't fault my F1 stock rom.

I too wish the camera quality was better on my budget device, but I'd be going from a $200 phone to a $500 phone for any significant improvement and it's really not worth it

            • @scottySK:

I never looked into lineage roms as my wife didn't seem to care all too much, but friends also speak highly of them

Yea I mean if there's no real incentive to do it, there isn't a real need to do it. There's a bit of time involved to get it to LineageOS.

It's a shame these umidigi devices don't use snapdragon chips - I think that's the reason why custom rom support is lacking.

I would suspect it's a factor, but I think the bigger factor would undoubtedly be the disparity in popularity between Xiaomi/Redmis and UMIDIGIs.

Currently though I can't fault my F1 stock rom.

How close to Android stock is F1 stock? With a 5150mAh battery life, I guess you get some really good screen time out of it?

I too wish the camera quality was better on my budget device, but I'd be going from a $200 phone to a $500 phone for any significant improvement and it's really not worth it

I completely agree. Not worth (to me) the $300 premium for a better camera for a feature that isn't overly important to me.

              • @illumination: It's 99% stock apart from the swipe navigation system they implemented over the Android gesture system. I actually don't mind it.

Yes battery life can get 10 hours screen on time over 2-3 days with light/moderate use like web browsing and messaging.

Very happy with it considering I'd only heard negative comments about the company. Glad I took the risk, price was just too good with the shopback 20% deal (which I finally cashed out like 3 months later lol)

          • @illumination: You can use two sim cards and an SD at the same time using a connector.

            • @trinkasharma: Yes, I'm aware of that option but as I mentioned above, I'm only putting that down as a con relative to the device in this deal. It is not a dealbreaker of the Redmi Note 4 to me by any means and the feature is not important enough to me to feel the need to use the connector haha.

I paid a note 4 3GB/64GB version for around $190 AUD after Cashback in September 2016 when it was first released. I suppose its price hasn't dropped much since. It's a great PHONE for the money and mind you it's also the best selling phone in India.https://amp.ibtimes.co.in/indias-best-selling-smartphones-2017-xiaomi-dominates-top-5-list-redmi-note-4-leading-pack-758406

        • I paid a note 4 3GB/64GB version for around $190 AUD after Cashback in September 2016 when it was first released

That's really good, especially considering you were an earlier adopter (relative to the "deal" I got). Are you still using it now?

I suppose its price hasn't dropped much since.

I wouldn't imagine so. However, I also can't think of what other phone has come in to this price point to "replace" it. Yes, there's been the Redmi 5 Plus/Redmi Note 5/6/7, but besides the Redmi 5 Plus, these have well and truly pushed into the high $200s. Mind you - it's still bloody cheap. It's just no longer in the <$200 range.

It's a great PHONE for the money and mind you it's also the best selling phone in India

I would agree. It's fantastic for the money. I think I'd heard it was the best selling phone in India. It also seems to retain great custom ROM support (which I care about).

          • +1

@illumination: Yep, I'm still using it today but mostly using it at home or overseas :)
I paid $50 cheaper than anyone else back then due to generous cash back deal (I think it was 20% back cap at $50 cashrewards for Aliexpress).

Yes, indeed especially given our dollars are devaluing and the GST for overseas purchase. So if you really want to snap up a deal for around $200 mark, you will need to wait for the Xiaomi mobiles on sale (usually when a new model released) at Aliexpress plus big Cashback and ship it to a place overseas where you'll visit in the near future. I bought a note 5 4GB/64GB pink for my parents in Jan 2019 for $170-$180 AUD after Cashback using above method. There are definitely ways to get great phones at the prices you're after :)

I use stock ROM mostly. I think it's good enough for me.

The cheapest NFC Phone would be Galaxy A20 ( around $169 Vodafone-locked, around $220 unlocked)…

    • Umidigi Power is cheaper and unlocked OOTB.

      • +2

Maybe being cheaper is everything in China and some other third world countries, but many people in Australia appreciate quality of product, brand, certain features and, you know, a local 2 yr warranty.

        • +7

….And many Australians have no idea about the great phones that are sold worldwide for a fraction of the price people here are silly enough to pay.
Other markets have customers numbering in the billions so our tiny consumer base is of no interest to a lot of makers so you don't see them being advertised in the media here.
I have a $1k Sony phone that is now used as a paperweight because it was a pos and failed… I now use and swear by Xiaomi phones as they are more reliable and a LOT cheaper.

    • +1

The A20 is a good phone and offers a super amoled screen, something you typically won’t find on ~$200 phones. There’s going to be cons on any ~$200 phone. If I was buying a phone with that budget I would be more inclined to buy a local model designed and tested for local market. Nothing against the Chinese models, just wouldn’t want to deal with poor after sales support and with this budget I probably couldn’t afford poor support.

  • 1-2 month shipping with no tracking; probably worth the gamble for that price though

    • ordered from aliexpress and received safely :)

    • I had tracking with my f1

    • +1

That’s one of the cons going China phones. I think I would go with the A20 over this. The SoC is MTK in this and based purely on A53 cores, where the exynos in the A20 uses newer better A73 cores as well. The resolution of screen being higher I feel is a con on cheaper phone with slow processors. I would prefer a super amoled screen over what this uses too. If you don’t need to unlock the A20 it’s similar in price too, it comes with $30 prepaid sim pack as well. The upsides also is Samsung is made for local market and supports all the local bands, supports Samsung pay too. Horses for courses.

      • The only con to me is Single sim. If it has Dual sim then I’d be all over it.

  • +2

It is US $105.60 with US $9.60 tax for me.

  • ordered mine over a month ago, still has not shipped.

    • Contact AliExpres or the specific seller, sometimes they make their own calls or hustle at their end to get your purchase to you faster. That's been my experience anyway.

  • +3

    Cheapest so far, decent phone.

that price does not include GST.

making it the most expensive deal so far

    • +3

yeah mine was 143 i think delivered no gst at dx extreme.

  • +2

Got one for my daughter. It's unbelievable for $145 phone. Very similar to my zenphone 5, in size, button and camera placement, screen, weight and build quality. Charger was not Australian, that was the only snafu. Not sure how bright the screen is outdoors, but compared to what else you can get for $140 it's a no brainer

It comes with a screen protector fitted and a hideous case 😁

  • +1
  • why not a refurb'd lg g6 instead? i doubt it's any slower not to mention the incredible 4k camera with OIS

    • +3

Name a vendor or link the product, please

      • +1

Second that. Vendor or link(s) please.

  • Is this the one that we can open 2x Pokemon Go at the same time? :)

  • Has anyone's order shipped yet?

I ordered mine on 14th July but it still hasn't shipped yet.

    • +1

Base on my experience with an Aliexpress store for the same phone, it'll take 50 days for delivery.

      • +1

Thanks for the heads up. I've never ordered a phone through Aliexpress so I didn't know what to expect. Other smaller items seem to ship much faster.

Good thing I don't need it urgently.
