  • And battery still as bad as the big brother?

    • How many hours is the battery life?

      • +5

My 485 is something like a 4-5hr laptop at best.

I would expect this to be a little better like a 5-6 hr but that's being optimistic.

I feel you have to be realistic about your expectations.

This is a quad core laptop w/8Gb 240Gb ssd and it has an ok integrated gpu… AND its a Thinkpad.

For the money I expected some shortcuts and that's the battery.

Mine doesnt leave the house much anyway.

        • +2

Thanks. Battery life too short for school.

    • These cheaper laptops always have 3-4 hour battery life.

Any chance of a deal on a yoga?

  • +3

    any deal on 2 in 1 ?

  • Will this work with Ubuntu?

    • Yes.

      • Thx mate. Have you tested it with the latest version?

        • No.

        • I know someone with this laptop who runs Manjaro KDE with no issues.

        • I'm running Ubuntu 19.04 on the 15'' version of this, works pretty good out of the box.

          • @valf: Thanks, how much battery life are you getting?

            • @djevoultion: Haven't even tried yet, will report back

            • @djevoultion: About 3 and 1/2 hours, fairly high luminosity, watching videos online.

One thing to note, one of my USB ports seems to have a hardware failure. Still waiting on Lenovo support to even reply to me…

              • @valf: geesus so little time.. glad i didnt buy. completely fail product

    • I have the L340 and it has issues with not recognising the touchpad. You just have to update the Kernel to 5.00+

I'm using this laptop now. Great value for money, especially with the cashback. A few things to note, it's quite heavy, bezels are quite large and the screen brightness is very average.

    • How about the fan noise, constantly spinning? Is this laptop overall size getting closer to a 15 inch laptop because of the larger bezel?

      • It runs very quiet even under load. I can barely hear the fan noise. I don't have a 15 inch laptop to compare but my guess would be yes.

    • +3

This laptop seems to only weigh 1.75 Kg and size is 329 x 242 x 19.9 mm which is all well within acceptable limits of a laptop with 14" screen

( not comparing to ultrabooks/Macbook Air or smaller screen laptops ).

    • Do you know how long it takes for them to process the cashback?

      • Notification: 1 to 7 Days

Estimated approval: Up to 95 days

So within 95 days after purchase, you will receive your cashback

  • Any advice as to where to get 8gb ram to top it up to 16gb.

    • +1

Try on Gumtree. Just make sure it matches your current one. Today I managed to bargain one 8gb DDR4 at $40 and it's brand new.

    • Newegg

gimme a real amazon like deal on a carbon x1! watch the cc's get broken out then.. not these repeated deals on low end models… floggin' the dead horse eh.. pff!

  • The discount code is invalid, still show $1300+.

Who know to to get this deal to price above? Thank you

  • +1

I would say that it's not worth investing in a laptop that can't deliver 8+ hours of browsing on a single charge. there was a Dell deal recently on a 1.59kg 15 inch laptop that ticks all the boxes. magnesium body. bright screen. 97wh battery. i5-9300H and gtx 1650. that's a good package, and price was $1300, definitely worth it. thise AMD based Lenovo's are crippled to srart with, why even bother.

    • +5

      Double in price, bro

      • you get what you pay for, bro. also, there are better options if you're not willing to spend $1000+.

        • Any specific ones? My father is looking for something about as powerful as this. Missed out on the Inspiron deal a few days back which would have been excellent.

          • +1

@SlowCarSlow: unfortunately a lot of eofy deals are over! if I had to buy something right now, I would choose this: https://www.dell.com/en-au/outlet/ProductDescription?cfID=07…

why? 3 year next business day on site warranty for a peace of mind. better everything, from keyboard to chipset. larger battery. design proven by generations of business grade hardware. many people turn their nose at refurbished, but Dell is different. I dare you to find any difference from brand new machine.

            • @[Deactivated]: Yes the timing was unfortunate to say the least. Looks like that one has a Hard Drive rather than an SSD, so it won't suit. Thanks for finding that though.

              • @SlowCarSlow: that's a quick job to replace that. check outlet often, a lot of good models disappeared in the last few days. since Dell started offering 3 year pro warranty on all latitude in the outlet, they go like hot potatoes.

p.s. jeez I didn't know someone still configures business laptops with spinning drives to save, what, $10? stingy.

              • @SlowCarSlow: https://www.dell.com/en-au/outlet/ProductDescription?cfID=EC…

this one is a killer deal! haha

only one year warranty, but i7 and mx130!

            • @[Deactivated]: 50% more expensive and with a spinning hard disk?

              • -1

@Mallard: you are very perceptive. also it's a business grade laptop with 3 years on site warranty. swap out the drive, and you're away laughing. check the other link below, the vostro variant. that's about the same price as Lenovo but much better.

        • +1

This is what you meant, right? Agree good spec and that GPU is way better than MX series.

@CyberMurning: yes. most importantly, I love seeing a 1.59kg sturdy 15inch chassis. and they managed to fit in 97wh battery, too! I want to see more models based on that config.

        • Would it not occur to you that the vast majority of people would PREFER to have a bigger budget on pretty much anything? While suggesting maybe pushing budget $100 more MIGHT be useful for some people, over $500 more is essentially useless IMHO.

          • +1

@ChocolateTown: I agree with this. I see a lot of posts in computer threads suggesting better value laptops but they are 50 to 100% more expensive. It also depends on what you are using it for. Many of these cheaper laptops will do exactly what is needed for many users.

  • Any chance to get a discount code for the standard E495 (part number 20NEA000AU) that ships in 6-9 days? The link provided goes to the custom E495 which ships in 2-3 weeks. Specs are identical for both. Be nice not to have to wait so long for exactly the same laptop.

I tried to use the coupon code for the standard E495 but it's invalid for that model.

  • For those subscribed to this thread, this same deal is back but with double the cashback…
