    Will they be open tomorrow?

  • This one probably supports AirPrint for IOS devices.

  • What are the advantages of a laser printer?

    • +4

Laser prints faster and clearer than an ink jet printer, and is lower cost to run, you get more pages per dollar over an inkjet.

    • +1

Superior printing speed. Uses powder instead of ink, pages dry faster. Low cost per page in the long run. Damn, i bought the staples' duplex printer instead of this just moments ago.

    • +2

As above, plus printed copies will survive getting wet better, instead of the ink running and ruining the print.

If you want a more professional, crisp print say for your CV/resume, laser is the way to go, especially at the price point we are getting now.

    • +2

Cheaper, better looking, more durable in rain/getting highlighted. Its a no-brainer.

    • +1

Although this particular laser printer is a mono one, so no colour.

Are laser toners refillable nowadays? I stopped buying new inkjet cartridges since refilled ones are half the price.

      • Think so, but you can just buy compatible third party toners for roughly half the price, if not less. I buy 2000 page mono toner for my brother 2140 for about $22 ea.

        • +1

Ambiguous i jst ordered the staples deal (wish id waited half an hr now!), brother 2240 i think, so could have use of third party toners in the future…where do you buy/ order from?

    • +1

They're a better room heater than ink jets are.

    • Also, Laser toner doesnt dry out or have heads that get clogged, so if you dont print often, it doesnt matter.
edit : should have kept reading before posting.

Looks a pretty good buy, I'm a uni student and am forever buying ink cartridges for my canon multifunction..

I've still got a few left thanks to the staples $20 off vouchers but i think i'll have to invest in one of these shortly!!

    Thanks guys!

  • Is the tuner filled full? Or is it filled half full like some other new printers you buy?

  • Anyone know if this does duplex printing? :)

I would get the staples one, but they don't post to QLD.

  • Do laser printers 'dry-up' their ink if they're not used for a few months like inkjets can?

    • Nope. 3 years is the figure I use.

    • No they don't. The toners in Laser printers use dry ink particles (rather thank liquid ink in inkjets) which are fused to the paper by heat. That's the ultra short version without being too geeky and technical
Typically the toner would cost more than the liquid ink cartridges found in inkjets but far surpass the numer of pages printed that of inkjets. Laser printers FTW!!

      • +1

No liquid ink cartridges FTW…I tend to refill mine for less then 50cents per refill. You just need enough youtube videos to teach you how. That and staples paper… I am surviving uni fine with almost next to nothing printing expenses.

Note this is not a new price, been this way for a while. Still a good price. Personally I would go for the Brother Hl-2132 Mono Laser Printer. I don't know the HP toner refil value, but Brother is ok.

    • is that one wireless? thats what i want

      • +1

any brother wireless printers state W at the end. eg. 2170W

  • Question if anyone can help, I jus bought the Staples deal (Brother mono laser HL-2240D) a couple hrs ago. I realise its only usb, however my router seems to have a usb port too, does this mean I could plug it in and use it from multiple computers?

    • Not sure about plugging it into the router, but you could always share the printer so all computers on your network could access it..That would however require you to keep the computer its connected to on when you need to print.

Regarding compatible toners (from above), shame you didnt read my post here: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/46808 the 2200 series has much fewer compatible toners on the market compared to the 2100 series. I've bought from ebay and wholesaletoners (quite pricey but fast delivery if you need asap) before, but thats for the 2100 and im not sure if you'll find cheap options for yours.

I realise its only usb, however my router seems to have a usb port too, does this mean I could plug it in and use it from multiple computers?

Probably. The port is normally a printer and file sharing port. Best consult the modem's manual or share the model with us so we can tell you whether or not.

But there is a good reason they have a USB port - it's either printer or file sharing, or both.

      • +1

Or for a 3G Modem! Best to check your manual or tell us the model (as suggested above)

    • You need to check if your router has a print server. The USB port may only be for external hard drives.

  • Looks like a good buy for a wireless laser. Anyone know if this is a noisy printer?

    • I actually got mine a while ago while it was around the same price. All I have to say is that the manual duplexing kinda kills the whole wireless printing thing(unless you're close to the printer). However, the printer is pretty good, sometimes steam comes out if you have moist paper (nothing to worry about this is normal), it prints relatively quiet compared to some of the inkjets I've had in the past and if you need to buy toner I've found this website has pretty cheap stuff: http://www.inkstation.com.au/printer.php?brand=HP&keywords=L… . Cheers! And no I'm not a representative of this company, I just stumbled upon it while googling cartridges for my old multifunction inkjet printer/scanner/faxer(that I never used…).

  • I bought this because of the generic compatible ink toners out there. I think ebay has them cheaper than ink station for 33 dollars.

  • Bought one and am happy with it. Nice quiet printer and the initial printing starts very quickly. Perfect for my home office. Also not as big as others.

Only thing I dont like about it is its Finge print black, but that a peesonal thing.
