Dont forget to price match with officeworks for extra 5% off! and stack with giftcards where applicable ;)

  • Good price and great printer. Cheaper than at Good Guys commercial

    • +1

It's the same price at The Good Guys with their price beat button.

      • +1

That's because they scan the market and are price matching this Amazon price. Anyways, you can get an actual 5% price beat at OW

        • Do those large toners. Ink get stale if not used too long?

          • @ATTS: generally, no.

the toner is usually a plastic powder, and will 'lump' if left to settle over a long period of time (more than several months) - which is easily 'fixed' by taking the toner cart out and gently shaking side to side two or three times to break up any lumps.

and that's it - put the cart back, and happy printing :)

            • @harrywwc: Thanks never knew this

Time for for me to upgrade

Can this send scanned documents straight 2 email address and auto scan multiple pages automatically at once and auto stapling

    • How u got it for?

      • Can elaborate re aftermarket toner please?

        • Link below

    • TLDR?

        • Is it true they invent some chip that prevents use of generic toner?

        • Anywhere to find out what firmware is or isn't supported? Got OW to price match and it came with ZJ 1.32, latest is ZJ 1.33. I have blocked it from accessing the internet, so shouldn't be able to update any higher, or prompt for an update.

            • @xwx: I got the 8690. I did send an email to inkstation yesterday to try and find out what they say, but yet to hear back.

Sucks that it might already be locked out. I might have to try a roll back of the firmware, although since it came with 1.32 it might just not be possible (internet traffic is blocked at the router level for the printer). Or I cross my fingers and hope by the time I need some new toner, they've found another way to get them to work.

                • @xwx: I did hear back, and it was good news

Currently, there are no firmware issues but if you find the cartridges are incompatible, they at least have a one year warranty.

Any item under warranty can be replaced/refunded if found to be faulty.

  • I never used laser printer. Do these need cartridges like my hp inkjet? I hate my inj jet. Leaking issues, no good printint, and runs out quickly, expensive to run.

    Laser doesn't need all that?

    • No. Uses laser toners. Cheaper on a unit basis.

      • And these toners do dry up? Thinking to buy it, my use is not much. But when i need it, atleast its ready

        • I don't believe so. The set of toners that comes with the printer will probably last you for years since you don't use it much. You can buy aftermarket toners for cheap too (just don't update the firmware on the printer).

          • @mandelbrot: U r legend… Let me check with officeworks… Tired of inkjet usb cable drama and dried of inks if not in use… Atleast laser wont dry like ink. Thanks man..

            • +1

@Zeee: Last set of aftermarket toners I bought was this(inkstation.com.au) for $86 for a full set of 4 toners. Use code VIP20 for extra 20% off.

              • @mandelbrot: Finding 10% off on officeworks. Thanks @mandelbrot

              • +1

@mandelbrot: Another thing I noticed that these toners are higher yield and still cheaper compared to toners for Brother MFC-L3760CDW(inkstation.com.au)

                • +2

@SpaceTerrain: 1/3 the cost and rated to print almost twice as many pages! (6x better yield)

                • @SpaceTerrain: Are those ones compatible with the 8690? From what I could find it looks like only the 8390.

                  • +1

@EspadaV8: TN-441 and TN-443 are both compatible with 8690. 443 are higher yield toners.

        • Toner for laser is a dry powder, so no doesn't dry up. It's dry when new.

Outrageously expensive delivery fee to non-capital locations kills this deal for me, unfortunately.

    • This(brother.com.au) is another option but it is refurbished and priced at $559. Comes with 12 months warranty.
I have found that their delivery is usually cheapest. Last two printers I bought from them, they had less than $10 delivery to ACT.

  • I like Brother printer because it's super easy to use generic ink and reset everything. I pour the refill into the cartridge, and I am done.

I heard that the new generation with new FW is blocking the reset, so please read about this before buying.

  • Thanks, just price matched at officeworks :) It's very heavy :O

  • It is a very old printer but did a good job before. I have it but recently it prints strange things even have I changed the toner, the drum and waste collector etc. It will retire this weekend.

    • It is still a very capable printer and has many positive reviews

$493 (5% off $519) with pricebeat at officeworks. Person on the phone wouldn't match it at $509.

    • I went in store today and they price matched the $509, but I doubt they were supposed to.

  • +1

Price matched at Officeworks Warners Bay NSW. Final price $483.55. Too good to pass up.
