  • its the same price at the Good guys too.

    • yea not really a bargain anymore lol, as its the same price everywhere.

      • +2

The bargain is in finding stores that have stock and still at the $99 price

  • Isn't this basically a dupe of this http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/46614 ?

Just a different store. Would probably be better just to mention that it's also available at Harvey Norman for the same price in that thread.

    • the other store is sold out (online and all Tassie states) so this is a useful deal.

      • Roger that!

    • so the thing you mentioned can be dupe of this one as well.

bcz lots of stores are selling and everyone descibed it diffrently.

still trying to find info on its gps system.

does it require a constant network to work? like the iphone or ipad?

or can you download programs that allow you to use it as a gps without networking ?

    • +1

Yes you can use GPS only. If you want to use an offline navigation solution then you'll have to download a free or paid satnav app, google navigation and google maps both use data I believe.

      • +1

CoPilot Live works well with it. oceania maps gives you all oz and nz coverage. full spoke directions like a normal gps as well. internet not needed.

        • Igo MYway is fantastic and dosent need networking.

    • The GPS itself doesn't require any network, but using Google Maps (which most of the navigation applications do) requires data access to continuously download maps.
One navigation tool that I've used that works with off-line maps is OsmAnd (OpenStreetMaps for Android). It's a little bit "beta release" - not completely finished and polished - but it works pretty well.
Apparently there are also some applications that allow you to cache Google Maps for off-line use, but I've not used them.
You can also use the GPS to record where you've been, and it doesn't require map data to do this. I use SportyPal (naff name, great software) on my Android phone to record bike rides; often right out of network range. Using a Tab for this may be a bit of overkill, but it's capable.

    • Iphone and ipad dont require network connection for gps to work. Like other phones all you need a navigation app.

  • is this tab android 2.2? or 2.1?

    • 2.1, but readily upgradeable to 2.2

Posted from my overclocked MyTab running Gingerbread (2.3).

      • Where did you get 2.3 from please? I have 2.2 running from Optus download but they don't provide 2.3??

Thanks for finding this - I missed out on the online DSmith one - and may not get one in store in the morning - good that you found this one also..
    thanks Sukhy

    • Dick Smith online have them in stock - I purchased one yesterday morning and it was despatched today.

  • God dammit! I am sick of seeing these deals. I nearly bought the Galaxy Tab, then it sold out. Same with these tablets. If HN has it in stock thou looks like im purchasing it :D

  • The other listings on here has tons of info & links on the actual unit if you want to save someone from typing their fingers off ?? :-(
Lots more info on WP as well, under android in discussion.
As this is a red hot item and is hard to find this deal good advice to those looking.

  • Would it be better to wait for optus to have it in stock and buy it from them directly as they are selling for the $99 and it would include 3gb data which will be valid upto three months.
    http://www.optus.com.au/store/phone/mytab_prepaid

Or they might have it in store in stock

  • DS store is back. LOL. I just find it and purchase one

  • Does anyone know what is the difference between this Optus ZTE MyTab tablet and the Optus Huawei X1 tablet ?

    • +1

Dont think the X1 is a tablet. Phone right?

Are you thinking of the Huawei S7 tablet?

  • Does this tab allow you to play games like Pocket Legends? You need to move and turn at the same time using two touches at lesat. Will it work on this?

    • +1

The MyTab uses a resistive screen, so it does not support pinch to zoom, nor multitouch. You won't be able to play games that require 2 fingers / thumbs.

And it only uses a 600mhz Qualcomm processor, not sure of the graphics chipset but it definitely isn't fast enough to handle 3d games like Tank Hero, Pocket Legends etc. A 1ghz CPU is recommended.

  • None at Osborne Park :(

  • can u get 3G Internet on it and share via wifi / usb ? would like to use it to share to Laptop

    • +1

yes, after you upgrade to android 2.2
