OLAPICK/OLADROP works out at about $29 for me vs $33 using the 30% off code.

So it can still sometimes be the better option.

    • Code didn't work when I tried to use it on Monday. Strangely when I tried it the night before to test it out it worked. I just assumed I was unlucky and it expired overnight

  • With the Referral Ride at $20, this is the cheapest option to get to Brisbane CBD from Brisbane Airport.
    Ride Charges $25
    Discount $20
    Charged: $5

Not worth it. Consistently poorer service than Uber.

100% agree. Although the drivers get more money driving with Ola, and it's generally cheaper for the customers, I have had 3 complaints that I've brought up with them. One time the problem was solved and I was offered a full refund.

The other two times I contacted them through the app (There is no contact number, which is a pain in the ass) and went back and forth with one of the customer "service" people. After 50 minutes of conversation that went nowhere, I was accused of lying. I then informed them that I had screenshots as evidence to support my claim. No response for 10 minutes. I then messaged them asking for a response and then they replied with something along the lines of 'we need more information to understand your problem. Please email more information to this email-'. I sent the email with all information and screenshots, and didn't get a response for three weeks.

Give yourself lots of extra time with Ola.

On 2-3 occasions, I've booked an Ola with the first driver accepting the ride.. then cancelling. Then the second, third, and fourth driver all cancelled. If I didn't have time to wait, I gave up after #1 and would book an Uber or Didi instead.

Give yourself lots of extra time, Ola aren't reliable.

Had them cancel on me at the airport several times. Gave up and got an uber.
The uber driver said Ola doesn't punish drivers for cancellation where uber does, that's why they do it all the time.

Exactly this. They are just terrible in general. One driver took an extra long route didn’t follow any of his gps instructions just to make more money and took an extra 10 minutes to get to the airport. On the trip back home decided to give it another go. one cancelled and one never turned up and then the next one who finally turned up kept complaining about our luggages >.< never again

You guys all realise the same drivers use Ola and Uber etc and just pickup whatever comes in first? There's no difference in my experience. And to add to that imo it's even less likely a driver will cancel an Ola because they get paid more vs uber.

I've had really different experiences to everyone here. I've only had decent experiences with Ola and the prices have been lower than Uber so no complaints from me. They have now partnered with velocity so I feel like their growth may finally provide some solid competition against Uber, like Lyft in the USA. 9https://experience.velocityfrequentflyer.com/partners-offers/everyday-essentials/ola)

Lol screw OLA, I've tried so many times at the airport can never really get a ride successfully. I think out of the 8 times I tried, only had one driver pick up the job.

  • I have used ola previously both at the airport and within the city, can say no one cancelled on me and they were fairly reliable!

Tried Ola many times - always charge me way more than the displayed rate and drivers have cancelled on me many times at the airport. Ended up having to give up and catch an uber instead.

Airport transfer works a treat fir me in Perth. A cab is about $40, ola is $25. I'm in an ola as I type now.

What suburb do you go to? I'm in wanneroo

  • Do they have child seats as well?

    • Don't think so, consider Uber extra services and flexibility as some kind of premium and that explains why Uber is more expensive in general.

      • Every ola driver I've chatted with does both ola and uber, same car sane driver

  • There is no better place to try Ola than in India itself:

Jaipur: compared fares and Ola is 20% cheaper than Uber. 1pm, driver showed up within minutes. He knows nothing of English but his mobile phone gives him voice instructions in English. Can tell by his impression on his face that he is on a slave wage.

Jodhpur: 3.80 pm: peak time every Ola cancels fares is obviously too low. Autorickshaw drivers abuse me for showing them the Ola fare.

Delhi: Most Ola stickers are peeled off. Eventually got an uber. Driver told me that Ola was dodgy and he no longer drives for them.

    • Ola is king in India, not uber. Used it when I was there for a month, was great!

  • +2

I've used Ola maybe 20-30 times and I haven't had a bad experience with them. Guess it's just luck of the draw.

I do agree that the $25 deal is better for most people though.

You can also use the same codes to book the larger car version, and sometimes depending on where you are heading, it can be cheaper than the normal service. I've done this twice at Sydney when I went to collect my parents: normal fare to 2195 with the discount was something like $27 but when I booked the bigger car, it came at something like $24 and suited fine for the amount of luggage the parentals had.

  • Last time I was at SYD it took me 4 attempts at booking around 8pm, to find a driver

    • 1st attempt - no drivers found (timed out after about 2 minutes)
    • 2nd attempt - driver cancelled after a few minutes of waiting
    • 3rd attempt - no drivers (timed out after about 5 minutes)
    • 4th attempt - found a driver, waited about 2-3 minutes for them to arrive from the waiting zone

Ended up getting charged more than the estimate.

  • I've never had issues with service once I get a car. Sometimes there simply are no cars around.

In terms of cancellations, I find Uber to be just as awful sometimes, particularly late night in the city. Because the Uber app doesn't tell drivers where you are going until they arrive - they always call ahead, acting like they're just "checking in" but then first question is: "so where you going?" As soon as they hang up; cancellation.
