ofc mate, share the ozb love!

          • @Gon-Ad: Most plans have 14 days cooling off, if you go to the cancellations team with this I am sure they will swap you to the new plan.

            • @mahdloc: Yeah that was my plan if they didn't give me the discount, i would have cited the 14 day cooling off period. They probably knew so to avoid the hassle they just gave me the discount.

              • +2

@Gon-Ad: I've tried three times (well, I'm on my third now) to be put through to the cancellations team. It keeps getting disconnected. Great strategy by Optus.

                • @slacktech: I think I'm on attempt #5. Billing department this time. They've applied a $5 discount per month for 12 months. That was painful.

                  • +1

@slacktech: They probably caught wind of this but hey you got the $5 off eventually! :D

        • Say you want to cancel (and wish to be transferred to the retention team if they don't immediately say it themselves). I got on livechat to cancel the other day, said I wanted to cancel, the rep said they'd transfer me to the retention team. And the first thing they said was something like, "Would you accept a discount to stay with Optus?"

      • i'm on the same boat but couldn't get anyone on the chat transcript to get the $5 discount.. anyone could share their transcript to get the discount? thanks!

        • Be persistent. i.e. They probably don't offer much if you've just signed up, because they know they have you snared for months. I contacted them separately about what I thought was a billing error. the guy kept trying to explain, and he was right and I was wrong, but because I kept 'not getting it', he finally offered to waive a final charge of about $30. After the chat I realised he was correct and I was wrong, so I just paid it. But my point is… the squeaky wheel gets the grease. So find a different way to say the same thing, say it's ridiculous and point out why, wear them down - whine about it - and many of them will give in because it's in their interest to move on to another call.

  • So can I combine with my student discount to this $45 plan?

    • +1

I tried, you can't unfortunately. Only one discount can be applied to the offer apparently. But they mentioned the student plan can be applied after the 24 months when the discount expires

    • I got it applied to my plan once after signing up by saying I forgot to apply it. They applied it on top of the other discount.

  • Does anyone know if billing starts as soon as I sign up? Or when I activate the sim?
Would be good if I could sign up and then wait a month or so until my current plan expires.

Does this have Optus sport included?

  • Hey guys, does anyone know how/if I can change onto this plan from a current 24month plan?

  • +2

Optus can you put back the Philippines into countries with free international calls and you will pick up quite a few customers.

  • Currently have an old shared data plan that covers 3 sims. Can I upgrade all 3 to this?

  • I was on chat and asked for a further discount - But I was at work so was rushed.

    • So did they just give you a discount? How did you bring this up?

      • My mistake, Turned out I was signed in to a staff discount portal for my company.
        Please delete/ignore my post.

  • Are there any other competitive offers with roaming with any network?

    • +1

Not really… there aren't many plans on the market which have roaming included…

Obviously Optus have got this one for $45 with 4GB data + calls/texts in Zone 1 countries

Optus has also got the $105 and $125 phone plans with 2GB and 4GB data included.

Telstra has the $69 sim only with 2GB data (but a much cheaper excess rate), the $119 phone plan also has 2GB and the $199 unlimited plan has 10GB roaming data.

Vodafone still charges $5 per day but this can be used with the full Australian allowance… so the $65 plan with 125GB data could be used overseas for a month (at a cost of $5 per day x 30 days for $150) meaning up to 125GB data for $215 per month however Vodafone still limit $5 roaming to 90 days per year.

  • +1

So I guess there is no way to throttle or stop data once the 4 GB limit is reached whilst overseas… and when it goes over, forget paying the expected $45 for the bill. No thanks, as much as it was tempting for a moment, I'd still rather get myself a local simcard when travelling, just for that piece of mind.

I’m on the $40 80GB plan that was on offer a few weeks ago and can’t recommend this highly enough.

I was in HK last week and used the included 4GB data roaming allowance without issues.

The Optus app says the data meter may be delayed but my experience showed that it updated pretty much within 15 mins. Your own phone (iPhone in my case) also logs the data used while roaming separately so you can check both meters regularly to make sure you don’t go over the limit.

I was also lucky as my monthly plan expired half way through so I theoretically got 8GB allowance while I was there.

I'm sure it makes sense when travelling overseas for just a few days. How about 6 weeks in Europe though… ;-)

      • +1

Then I don’t think any Australian postpaid plans would have that much roaming inclusions.

Best to get a local data sim.

        • +2

Vodafone kinda does. $5 per day to access it though.

Worked well enough over a 2 week trip and worked out cheaper than a local SIM for the same data in Japan. Course it depends on local data costs where you're going.

Also roaming is always slower because it routes over AU servers - but you avoid gov blocks like China.

          • @elusive: Many EU providers across Europe are forced by the EU law to offer either extremely cheap or free data/calls all across Europe. They call it Roam Like At Home.

Polish mobile providers seems to be the cheapest in the EU so I always use a Polish sim on my travels. Eg 2 Gb of data + unlimited calls / texts in the EU for 19.99 PLN (7.64 AUD) or unlimited everything in Poland. Once you run out of it, you can purchase another plan, and another…

At least you know that you will never pay more than the top up of 7.64 AUD :-) You are in control.

If Optus offered a simple option to turn data off once the limit is reached then I'd consider it.

    • +1

I found their data count 'magically' delayed on the last evening before your month resets. It sent me over a few times. When $4.90 Kogan SIMs appeared on the scene I'd buy one of those when I had about 5GB Optus left. (Better to pay $4.90 for 40GB with Kogan than $10 for only 1GB with Optus.)

  • These deals are just getting better and better. I thought $40pm for 80gb is already deal of the century.

  • What is the best plan out there for $25 a month?

    • LOL. You're going to have to add some info. No-one knows what you consider 'best'. e.g. Lots of data, small amount of data but international calls, etc. Start here maybe: www.whistleout.com.au

      • I think at $25 and below you can only be talking about data.

Belong seems the best option. But was hoping for some EOFY deal.

  • the optus corporate offering is giving the 80gb plan with 4gb roaming data for $40. no mention of the bonus 20gb. am thinking the corporate site has not been updated…..this could make it worthy of its own post?

    • Is that available without a corporate account? Could I get it for example as an individual?

      • am thinking the corporate site has not been updated…

I went searching for the store you mentioned and you couldn't be more correct on slow website updates 😂

Perfect gonna sign up to this and use it on my new razor phone 2!

  • I think the post including the $150 eBay voucher per other post works out cheaper. You can even use the eBay voucher on general shopping anyway.

  • I pay $36 for 30GB + Optus Sports (which I have never used). I just had a look at my invoices and average about 10GB per month. Got an s10e on the way, will be interesting to see if my usage increases. Currently using s6 edge

  • Can anyone confirm that this deal actually works if you drop the sim in a 4G modem?

  • +1

Anyone else having issue with the flybuys link? There are no plans shown for selection since yesterday evening. Checked in the morning all was fine but didn't manage to sign up in time. Gutted that the Google home promo that comes with it will end today.

    • I followed the link and the plans didn't display for me either. Optus Chat unable to help. They gave me the Flybuys contact number which is closed until tomorrow, after the deal expires. Not useful at all.

  • I would advise those on current out of/close to out of contract on $30-40 optus range to take this up as this could replace your NBN service like i did (just hotspot to everything)as i get anywhere between 90-240mb/sec depending on time of day.

I'm on the old 100gb $60 (from about 18 months back) and tempted to take this, back Telstra has come to the party with new offers, got feeling this offer will go on for longer or a bigger data offer will come along. I think a 125-150gb offer is brewing.

  • is the Roaming no extra charges when i oversea or like Voda $5 per day

    • +1

No extra charges - as long as you stay within the 4GB roaming data allowance, of course

      • thanks i will move from Voda now
