Got mine today - beautiful!
Got the order confirmation email at 4:56pm on monday, but haven't received the card charged & shipped email yet or any cancellation emails either…
For anyone interested, the drives seem quite plasticy, but rigid enough I guess. They come pre-loaded with Imation software that allows you to put private partitions on the drive and a few other things that I didn't really look into.
(whereas some drives such as some from Sandisk come with software that forces you to do things)
I recieved the following email today:
This email is to advise you that due to limited stock quantities Staples is unable to fulfil your order, this has meant we have had to withdraw your order. Please note that your credit card has not been charged and your pre-authorisation will expire within the next 2 business days.

Staples.com.auHowever, the To field has someone else's name in it, so I'm assuming this is meant for that person, I don't know why it got sent to my address.
Now that you mention it, I looked at the To field and it had:
paul.vanschellebeeck @ ce.com.au
I think this is because it's a mass mailing and all the recipients are Bcc: (Blind Carbon Copy). When you do that, usually the email program puts either the originator's email or Unidentified recipients in the To: field. So Paul is the guy who sent out the email, and he works for CE, now Staples.
So now you know who to pester. :)
I got a similar (but not identical) email:
Thanks for taking the time to Order with Staples.com.au

Why would you copy that whole email into a comment? Seriously. The same thing is already posted above a number of times.
juz when i needed an USB!
Anyone been rejected who purchased within the first 10mins of the deal being posted??
rejected, and I bought when there was like 10 clicks…
Guys,
I ordered on the same day this was posted and got an email from staples saying that they are sorry they do not have any stock left and have not charged me!!!Has anyone received thiers?
sydster
Did you bother reading the posts before yours? lol
me,too!!!!!
Staples level of communication has been shocking for this deal. Ordered Monday night and still no contact on Thursday. I was impressed with them in the 1TB HDD deal (even with security concerns) but this time they have lost me as a future customer without the use of vouchers.
Also their IT systems don't inspire confidence. Leaking information about other people's accounts. Not being able to tell customers right away something is out of stock. Showing me an older invoice when I click on the print my invoice button.
You'd almost suspect them of trying to cleverly stress test their systems by issuing vouchers, but I think the explanation is simpler: they are not up to scratch.
Had my order cancelled as well.
Ordered June 6th at 5.30 pm.
so staples do a pre-authorisation on my card on monday (6/6), cancels it and puts in another pre-authorisations of $5.50 today (9/6), wounder whats going to happen considering i haven't gotten a sent/reject email only a confirmation email
I got the Out Of Stock email too. :(
Received the dreaded email. Damn you Staples.
got the email of death too!
Same here, Damn it!
Same email, no stock. Calling bait tactics! I wonder how many they actually had in stock?
I reckon they would have had 100's maybe even 1000's in stock but really when OZbargain comes along and orders 5 at a time and gets 5000 click throughs it's hardly surprising they didn't have ~25,000 on hand…
I don't think its bait and switch… probably the only way they'd be able to fill it is ordering in more from the manufacturer…What about the drives they made available for sale on Tuesday (after selling out on Monday, but before sending the order cancellation notices on Wednesday)?
True, but based on the multiple welcome/confirmation etc emails everyone's been getting, I don't think it'd be a stretch to say something was up with their system.
Rejected too. I wonder if the different rejection letters are based on whether you bought anything else or just used the freebie value of the coupon. Mine was the "order cancelled" variety and no offer for alternative products as others received. My order was for 5 units, 100% freebie.
While I'm at it, I went to re-order something else and it tells me that my coupon GAME20 has been used, and the others SAVE20 and OFF20 have expired. I think I have to ring them to have them reissue the code.
I ordered a couple of reams of the discounted HP paper together with the USB drives and I also received the order cancelled email - so it is not just those who ordered the USB drives only who are affected.
I rang them up and they gave me a new code. This one is numeric so makes me wonder if they are issuing a different code for each customer who calls.
Damn, got the rejection email too…
I called it before though… :P
http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/46398?page=2#comment-491852My box of papers are getting sent to me, finally received a confirmation for those. But my order for the USB has been cancelled.
Got the rejection letter too!
just got off the phone with staples. the guy told me that any and all orders that had this 4G USB was cancelled due to there being limited stock - he even mentioned it was ozbargain's fault, lol. I was bummed cos I only ordered one along with the 8G usb so i called to see if i could keep that 8G order and get a replacement item for the 4G. Unfortunately no. And it seems the 8G imation could not be re-ordered.
He did give me another 20 off code to use which is linked to the account. so if you guys want another 20 off, you need to call them
edit* also, be prepared for a long wait on the phone - they must be hammered by ozbargainers, lol
well it was worth a try.
got rejected by Debra..uh I mean Staples
like a boss
Dammit… out of stock email
My 5x4GB drives arrived today. TBH, I didn't expect to get them when I ordered, so I'm pleasantly surprised.
fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
Got 3 separate rejection emails a few minutes apart about an hour ago. I ordered 1 of the USBs and a bunch of stationary about 8pm on Monday night. Pretty annoyed, they have taken way too long to let people know they wont be getting their orders.
Got a rejection email too. Boo
oh rejected aswell as timtams and some air freshener stuff i purchased ,reissied with new codes though :-)
Rejected too
got an email saying order withdrawn as item is out of stock. called staples and they said it went out of stock due to oz bargain. lol!
Staples, I say not good enough!
Every other online store (even DealExtreme!), when it turns out to be out of stock, the put it on back order and you get it when it comes in. Cancelling your order is simply not the right way to work with your customers who have been enticed into your store (however virtual) on the basis of the special. Blaming your poor set up of software does not remove the blame from yourself.Remember Staples is an Australian company and so for once our consumer laws do provide protection, should anyone wish to avail themselves of them.
If they could get more, I'm sure they would, the point of a clearance isn't to get more though
Damn, no stock?
I call BS. I didn't even order one of the drives featured in this deal, as they were out of stock at the time. But I received the same order cancellation email as above.
Find it hard to believe they also ran out of the stock I ordered (a different 4gb stick and another 8gb one).
Surely they'd just remove the coupon codes if they didn't want to get stung again? And as someone else said, you don't cancel an order out of the blue like that. You wait til you get more stock in, and notify the customer. This makes no sense to me.
I called and got another code reissued. It was an 8 digit numerical code. Thought I might as well use it and order some textas, crayons, pencils and paper for the children. I missed out on what I wanted, but atleast the children will be happy.
They do have a verbatim 4gb usb drive for $5.99. You would be able to get 3 for $5.50.
I can't add any to my basket, nor the $6.99 one. Fail Staples.
if ya havnt already ordered hold off,,i was told that there having a massive end of financial year sale in the next 2 weeks..
Just for those who want timings:
I ordered at 10pm on Monday and received mine yesterday
4 USBs and a ream of paperMind you that was my first order with staples-I used the game20 code
wtf, this whole thing is stuffed. damn you staples lol!
Arh well, I guess we have already done ok to date out of staples.
Hmm… I ordered at around 7pm, not very impressed (especially when the email doesn't tell me which order was cancelled).
The confirmation email for my order was received at 9.55am Monday
So I was in at least 5 minutes BEFORE you, and I got the "out of stock" email today.
How's THAT for bizarre!
I think you mean 5 minutes AND 12 hours.
I think the purchase of the ream of paper saved you there!!
staples need to state in the email whats out of stock, im more annoyed at waiting to see what came while im at work, than the out of stock email itself
Got my stuff today!
They didn't knock though. Or maybe they did but the sound of flying deloreans from my Z5500s were too loud.
Speeds are 23.7/8.1 MB/s on sequential testing in CrystalDiskMark. Quite good. Damn good for $1.10!However, there are a few strange things:
1. I ordered at 6 pm. Much later than most people who missed out but I managed to get the item. Note that I also received a rejection email. This might mean those who also did will get their items! (don't quote me on it though)
2. I received an extra invoice envelope. The person it's meant for is half an hour away(by foot)! It also has their full name, address and mobile number. Could be scary if it got in the hands of some crazy maniac.Well, in the end I'm satisfied with my purchase. :)
Did you ever get a confirmation email?
Yeah. If you're referring to the 'Your order with Staples.com.au' one. Then Tuesday came and I got the 'Your card has been charged and your order is on the way'. Then on Wednesday I got the 'Out of Stock' email.
yeah, sorry, I meant the "your card has been charged" email.
Very odd indeed, certainly looks like there was something wrong with staples at the time.
Bugger :( Me too…
This email is to advise you that due to limited stock quantities Staples is unable to fulfil your order, this has meant we have had to withdraw your order. Please note that your credit card has not been charged and your pre-authorisation will expire within the next 2 business days.Ordered at 5:35pm, rejection letter received.
Me so sad :(crap, i think none of the codes work any more, darn it staples!!!
Save20 doesn't work
Off20 and Game20 still workI tried all 3 and none work, but I should get a replacement for GAME20.
yep out of stock email too.
where am i going to find $1.10 presents now staples?!
got my USBs today. Ordered 2 + milo and other stuff :)
yeah just got mine as well, ordered pretty early as well so they must not have had many, i ordered when the +v count was around 60. Oh well maybe next time.
Not Happy. Got 5 conformation email from Staples on Monday and now the following email today.
This email is to advise you that due to limited stock quantities Staples is unable to fulfil your order, this has meant we have had to withdraw your order. Please note that your credit card has not been charged and your pre-authorisation will expire within the next 2 business days.

Staples.com.auGot my 5 yesterday. I ordered twice - first time I actually ordered 4 by mistake.. then made a second order for 5. They sent me an email yesterday to say they ran out of stock and couldn't send me the second order (first order of 4).
I'm happy. I ordered after about 160+'s. I was actually really surprised about how fast they arrived.
Its weird how they allocated stock. Had you ordered from them before to your address?
First time order.. It was weird that they sent me the order for 5 as apose to my first order of 4.
Got an out of stock email today. I'm going to pick up a 4GB Toshiba USB from mln for $3 tomorrow.
im sad there are no more oversized cardboard boxes anymore :(
so if we call staples, do we need to make an order then on the phone and then get another discount code?
they give you an 8 digit discount code linked to your account that can be used to the end of the month
its the same code for everyone
anyone mind sharing?
Ok, finally got the rejection email. Ordered 2 at 4:56pm with a bunch of other stuff, oh well :(
I am retracting my pos vote. No slight intended to the OP, this was a great deal.
oh… no can do anymore. :(
How come? :S Looks like I can
its funny cuz you didn't or can't
That's cos I want to keep the pos vote, I received my drives. The "revoke vote" button is still on the votes screen for me though :S
okay just poured through the last 2 pages. yes, it seems staples have f****d up IT systems in place, but there is a little bit of 'dodginess' going on behind the scenes too. obviously the whole point of issuing those $20 coupons were to woo as many new customers as possible, even at the cost of being loss leader on certain items. but this seems to have worked its way into how they allocated their orders as well. rather than doing it sequentially as one would expect, people who have ordered much later than when the deal when nuts have got their order despite people from much earlier reporting a cancellation. and the common characteristic of all the late orders who got their usb sticks? all first time customers! well at least that's what I have read so far. can anybody who placed a late order AND is a repeat staples customer AND received the usb keys dispel this?
Thats exactly what I thought! I'm a repeat customer & got my order rejected too! Arrgh!
requested Staples to remove my CC and details, I dont trust their IT system.
It would appear that they had the Shuffle Button switched on on their ordering system. Discount Codes/Coupons are issued by companies to drive business to their sites and have you sign up as a customer, this certainly worked with OzBargin community….I wonder how many hundred OBers signed up? All potential repeat business.
Most ethical businesses would honor the codes and dispatch product until stock was depleted, especially when many ordered other items than the 4G usb sticks.
Staples are a new multinational company in Aus. and I would have thought $20-$25K loss on product would be cheap advertising to establish a good reputation. They must have budgeted for this or why publish the discount codes at all.
In my eyes they have only displayed their inadequate inventory management, poor business judgement and ethics in advising cancellation of orders and have lost me as a future customer.
Or perhaps it is their little joke on OzBargainers, see quote from Richard Haigh, head of Staples.com.au (Campaign Brief Friday 20, May 2011)
Says Richard Haigh, head of Staples.com.au: "Staples is well known in many countries but being new to Australia we wanted to do something fun and unique that illustrates our different approach to office product supply. Buying office products may not be the highlight of your week but who says it can't be a bit of fun?"And from their web site:
"Staples is the world's largest supplier of office products and we've opened for business in NSW and ACT. We try extra hard to demonstrate the little things that we believe we need to do to earn your business. We also offer a great range, great prices and fast, reliable delivery. Plus, we're dedicated to offering all the little things that will make things easier and more convenient for all our customers."They have already wasted a whole of a lot more than $25000 on their discount codes around all of their products so I am not upset they aren't going to offer this with such a low prices for usbs.
A cool gadget, worth it
Same here. No shipping confirmation, no reject email :| They dont know what to do!
