Telstra 12-Month SIM Only Plan $65/Mth 60GB Data + $500 JB Hi-Fi Gift Card OR Several Handset Offers @ JB Hi-Fi (Port-in Offer)

4710

Hi all,
Just ported in my number back into Telstra using this amazing offer from JB-HiFi.

Basically you get $500 JB Hi-Fi Gift Card (with no expiry) when you sign on to JB Hi-Fi Telstra 12 Months Plan for $65/month which offers Unlimited Local calls and 60GB Data.

Update (20/06): As per latest reports from the comments, this has been revised to $300 Gift Card as of today i.e. $500 offer withdrawn a bit earlier.

For those who would rather buy a handset, there are several offers as listed below:
(I managed to have a quick glance at their internal email, so sharing the love)

Samsung Note 8 - $199 upfront
Oppo Find X 256GB - $199 upfront
Huawei Mate 20 - $199 upfront
Samsung S10e - $399 upfront
Samsung Note 9 128GB - $599 upfront
Google Pixel 3 64GB OR Huawei P30 - $199 upfront - Update (20/06)

LATEST UPDATE (13/06),
From 13/06 to 16/06, instead of the $500 OR the Handset Offers already mentioned above, you can also choose to avail one of the following offers:
$0 Upfront: Hisense 43" 43R6 TV OR XBOX One X 1TB Console OR iPad 128GB 6th Gen (Wi-Fi model) - Update (16/06): This particular option is now extended to 19th June ans is also open to new customers

$49 Upfront: Apple Watch 42mm (Series 3)
$99 Upfront: iPhone 7 (32GB)
$799 Upfront: Oppo Reno 5G
Update (20/06): These options are now expired

All offers are for port-in customers only. [Having said that, I ported out of Telstra for couple of hours this morning and managed to port right back in using this offer without any issues - so worth a go!]

Note: From what I understand, this particular offer may not have any signage to promote it in the stores, so do try mentioning it to JB Hi-Fi staff in order to avail the offer. This offer expires on 23 June but if keen I would recommend getting it sooner than later (just in case it gets withdrawn earlier). Have a great day folks!

Edit: To answer a common query from comments - This Plan does not include Peace of Mind (POM) data OR $10 International Calling Pack

Edit 2: For those keen on scoring even higher bang for the bucks, for an extra $4/month you can easily upgrade this plan to Telstra’s $89 BYO plan (currently discounted to $69/month) via Online 24x7 chat, thereby giving you (hold your breath):

Extra 30GB data (total of 90GB data including Peace of Mind (POM) data)

Unlimited international talk & text to 15 selected countries (i.e. Bangladesh, Canada, China, Hong Kong, India, Lebanon, Malaysia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, UK, USA and Vietnam)

International roaming - 2GB data roaming and unlimited talk & text in eligible countries (Argentina, Austria, Bangladesh, Belarus, Belgium, Brazil, Brunei, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Ecuador, Egypt, Estonia, Fiji, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Guatemala, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Laos, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macau, Macedonia, Malaysia, Mexico, Nauru, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Singapore, Slovak Rep, Slovenia, Solomon Islands, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine, UAE, UK, USA, Uruguay, Vanuatu, Vietnam)

If you do international travel and/or make overseas calls to the above destinations this is the BEST VALUE mobile plan ever (in my humble opinion) as you'll be effectively paying just $27.3/month for all of the above! Update (20/06): Gift card has now been reduced from $500 to $300.

If people can get the $10 port in credit on top of this deal, then it would be the best mobile plan deal of all time! Hopefully it works for everyone.

      • Don't think it's the best deal of all time. I think this deal was better.

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/454635

Basically you could get a P30 or S10 for $55pm with 60gb & Port in discount. Free $200 gift card which offsets the upfront $200 cost. And only a 12 month plan. To terminate the contract it was only $390!
        Ridiculous bargain.

        • +2

Mmmm I am waiting for a deal of this calibre to return! Granted this current deal is pretty good but the $199 upfront for the S10e is INSANE.

        • +2

I got the same deal. Subscribed to 65$ per month plan.
          Paid 200$ upfront for p30.

Claimed 10$ port-in discount to bring the plan down to 55$ per month. 55×12=660+200 upfront= 860$ for P30 and 12 months plan.

Then hopped online to claim 200 voucher from huawei. 860-200=660, offsetting cost of upfront payment.

Then tried my luck with Huawei's pre-order Sonos Deal. And it is arriving soon!!
And then finally sold sealed pack P30 for 700.
So effectively i got profit of 40$, a free Sonos Speaker and a telstra 60 gb plan for free.

    • Man thats a good deal.
Anyone else have any luck trying this?

    • This very helpful.Today I checked for this in-store at Brisbane city JBHIFI and they were completely unaware of this plan. After few calls here and there rep. confirmed the plan but said that $10 port in credit is not allowed for this offer. Now bit unsure about $10 port in credit…is that something which is store dependent? Someone advise?

      • I had the same experience. I went to the store in Pacific Fair and they didn't seem to be aware of this deal either. After a while they confirmed it was available, so I asked about port in credit and the guy said it would be unlikely as the deal is already too good. It seems some store reps don't really know what is available. I'm hoping some more people will be able to confirm whether they got the plan down to $49/m through online chat.

Isn't all the '$10 port-in credit' and changing to $49 plan done by Telstra chat anyway? The idea is to just signup to the $65/12month plan, get the $500 Gift Card and then go online to Telstra chat and keep trying until the desired result is achieved?
The challenge is how to get the Telstra rep to get you to the lower $49 plan (which is essentially the $69 plan discounted to $49? for new customers?)
This will take some reading and dedication to get my head around!
But well done OP for finding and sharing this!

          • @alterego13: This is what we did but only managed to get 15GB on the $49 plan which is plenty anyway. Will ditch Telstra after 12 months anyway.

            • @mstrelan: That's a bit of a concern with 15gb data for me! That's not enough as I don't have wifi at work and I almost 20gb every month. I just trying to see if all this hassle is worth or should I just stay with Kogan. Probably is with it just because it's with Telstra.

      • Yup told my mom about this, but the staff at Garden City just gave here a catalogue with the gift card offer. Not the best customer experience.

        • Visit the one in city at Albert street side entrance and ask for Dominic-store manager. He knows all about it and more than happy to help.

  • Anyone know if there is a restriction on how many times a customer can do this? Both our kids plans end next month so it would be porting 2 numbers in but both numbers are in my name.

  • If my father in law is with Telstra already can he get this deal?

Does he also get support through the Telstra store still?

    Thanks.

    • Needs to be a new/port in customer. May be able to port him out to a pre paid and straight back in but depends on who you get. Some staff will want you to be out of Telstra for 30 days.

Everything else is Telstra as normal so yes, he can walk in to a Telstra store for assistance.

    • -> treeman
or grab him a cheap plan from another company, and then port him on that card to this deal

  • Great deal OP!

  • If you wish to activate intl roaming on this plan does anyone know how much per day it cost (if available?)

    • +1

I would talk to Telstra chat and get them to change it to the current 90GB for $69 BYO plan. Being that it's a more expensive plan, there shouldn't be an issue.
That includes 2GB roaming and unlimited talk/text in eligible countries.

  • If i have data plan (not mobile) with Telstra, would i be considered an existing customer hence i m not eligible for this plan? Don't mind porting from amaysim. Thanks

  • im keen to know if anyone else was able to switch to the telstra $49 plan after signing up for the jb $65 plan.

    • I'm sure there will be an influx of people going in to JB for this today and looking to downgrade so you should get some replies soon enough.

    • +1

The $49 promotion on the $69 BYO plan is only for new customers (which you won't remain after joining JB Hi-Fi $65 plan). However, you can easily jump onto the same $69 BYO plan for $59/month OR even further upgrade to $89 BYO plan for $69/month easily via Online 24x7 chat. Hope this helps. Good luck mate!

      • +2

Depends who you get on the chat. Some have negotiated changing as it's a very similar plan, only cheaper because of Telstra's current sale. Even switching to Telstra's $59 plan should be easy enough. Say you only just signed up and didn't realize they had a better deal and ask for the port in credit to be applied. It's essentially the same plan, if not more expensive thru Telstra at $65 vs $69, just depends if you'll get a $10 or $20 credit per month applied.

    • Yes - follow whitelie's advise above.

  • $390 ETC.

  • +1

Great one, OP. Just went to JB Northland and ported in from Kogan.

    • +1

When I got home, I connected with Telstra via online chat and got this plan swapped with the Telstra $69 BYO 12 month plan. They currently have a promotion of applying a $10 credit per month which brings it down to $59 per month. Comes with 60GB but also with complimentary ‘peace of mind data’. So, after factoring in the $500 JB Gift Card, it works out to be just over $17 per month for 12 months…loving it!

      • Seeing the other folks successfully getting the $20 port in credit applied on their account, I reached out again to the Telstra online chat team and after a while, they agreed to apply an additional $10 credit per month on my plan, this reducing to $49 per month.

  • -1

Damn, swapped to the $40 BYO Optus deal two months ago. Anyone have any tips on how to get out of the cancellation fee?

    • Didn’t you know it was a 12 month commitment before signing up?

      • -1

        Well hello there captain obvious.

      • +1

Yeah I did. The question in the comment was asking for any tips to get out of the cancellation fee.

        • +1

If you were upgrading your plan and staying with the network, you have a small chance to minimise the fee. But why would Optus let you out of a contract for free to join a competitor?

  • +1

just got it from Jb Hifi and switched through Telstra's Online 24x7 to the $59 plan ($69 plan with $10 credit). They couldn't do the $49 promotion as I had already signed up.

    • This was my experience too.

      • +2

I went back a second time and got it. Just asked about $10 port in deal and they asked me which plan I wanted and gave me the $49.

        • +1

Same here. Asked for the port in credit but got the $49 plan instead.

          • @WTF: Did you get the confirmation email straight away? I was told the change would be reflected within 24 to 48 hours.

            • @Mac8K: I got an email with an order summary straight away.

            • @Mac8K: I got mine while i was still on the online chat.

  • Anyone know if you can use the $500 voucher towards the plan itself?

    • Don't believe so, gift card is jbhifi and your paying Telstra for the Sim card

    • No. It's a JB gift card, the plan is thru Telstra.

  • Ported out of telstra mid week as my 24 month contract expired. Signed up to 3 month kogan prepaid. Thought i would give this offer a go today as it sounds like a ripper. Unfortunately JB rep rang telstra and rejected my port as they could see i just ported out a few days ago. Bugger. Might try a different store.

    • Having same issues..been to 3 stores and no luck…let
      Me know how you go.

      • No luck at 2nd store. Went through whole online process on the computer. Signed up. Then port in failed. Not sure if port in failed due to being under a month since i left telstra or due to my birthday being wrong on my prepaid. So will contact kogan and confirm birthday and try again.

        • Let me know how you go…am interested

  • Hi is Oppo Reno available on this plan, if yes how much upfront, if anybody knows, thanks

  • +7

Thanks Op! I just signed up in store for the $65 plan, got the $500 voucher, and then went online and changed it to $49 via online chat. If I consider the $500 jb hifi as cash it comes down to $7.50 a month for the plan.

    • +1

Are you able to offer the name of the agent that agreed to this mate? How did you go about asking for it? I'm being met with a brick wall.

    • +1

Can you please send me the transcript for the getting the $49 deal? Thanks

      • +1

        +1 Please and thank you

      • Hey mind shooting it my way as well if you get it? Cheers mate

      • Mind sending the transcript to me as well. Thanks!

        • What exactly we have to say to the chat agent? I tried it but they are like no you cant do that. The max he could do is to change it to $59 plan. Can you please send me the transcript!

    • how did you get to 7.50/mo??

      • It's still $49/month so $588 for a year. Take off the $500 gift card and you're only $88 out of pocket or $7.33/month.

  • I opted for the transcript to emailed however It has not come through. My 'second order' has been updated in my Telstra account and I have received the critical information summary that details the $49 charge with $20 credit.
As soon as my first order progressed (within 5 minutes) I registered and spoke to an agent about my options for port in credits, and that I had an interest in the $49 offer as it is almost identical to the $65 plan. The agent agreed to change me at no cost due to myself porting in from another company (odd explanation).

    • +1

Would you mind providing the critical information summary please?

    • +1

Is it possible its treated as an upgrade at telstra - given its a $69 plan with $20 credit?

    • Would this still come with the $500 JB gift card?

      • Yes because this step is done after porting-in at JB (and receiving the voucher).

You've already got the $65/mth plan + the $500 gift voucher, you're only contacting Telstra to try and get the $10/mth credit and/or downgrade to a lower plan.

    • +1

Nice, I tried to get the 49 but they wouldn't because it was only available for new activations and the jb plan was already active, they switched me to a 59 though.

      • +2

Went back for a second time after seeing this and got it!!! $49. Just asked about the port in and the chat person just asked straight which plan I wanted.

        • +1

Sorry but could you explain what exactly you said to the Telstra rep?

          • @txb: I opened the chat and said something, 'Hi I'm new to Telstra, I heard there was a port in discount available for new customers to bring my plan cost down' after that she said 'Which plan did you want' and then I said the 49 plan and then she said sure I can process that for you. The first person I spoke to wouldn't let me just dropped me to 59 like some others have commented. Depends on who you get I think.

  • I am after a P30 Pro. how much will it cost after credit.. just wondering

    • They're currently around $1200. So factor in your $500 credit, it'll cost you $700

      • they made it 1400. not worth the 900 price tag. :(

  • So I signed up to the 12 month JB Hi-fi $65pm with $400 gift card a few days ago (boooo I know!). Got onto Telstra chat today, and switched my plan over to the $39 BYO mobile companion plan which has 30GB pm and POM data. It's actually the $49pm plan with 15GB of data, with $10 discount and extra 15GB data per month.

They said no cancellation charges to switch plans as I am signing up for a new 12 months. Unfortunately I think I will lose the $10pm port in credit.

This is end up costing me $5.66 per month. If I waited to for this current deal with the $500 gift card, I'd be making money :D

In other news, my Kogan mobile internet stopped working.

    Vodafone down. Vodafone down.

  • +2

I have just signed up my wife. On telstra chat as we speak, they are changing the plan down to the $49 plan with 60GB, peace of mind data, international calling. I did ask about the port-in discount, but they said they does not apply in this situation. But can still give the $49 60GB plan.

Was not hard, and got it with my first web chat.

I would probably say something on the lines of:
"I have just signed up telstra, switching over from xxx carrier. I have read I can change my current plan to $49 plan with 60GB data, to include peace of mind data and international calling."

    • How did you get them to downgrade you essentially from a $65 -> $49 without some sort of charge?

      • technically it's upgrading to the $69 plan, but getting a $20 discount so that it's $49

        • But they were on the ball with knowing what you meant in the chat?

          • @txb: A few of them are, and will make your life very difficult.

  • Got this today combined with the $100 trade-in on the Pixel 3a.

Was a bit of a drama on the trade-in, as they argued it needed to be a smartphone - and the $19 phone I got from Target didn't cut it. Argued for a while, but it does say in the internal JB memo that are no restrictions other than condition being good, and the phone being unlocked.

Not sure if the handset I gave them was unlocked - hopefully there are no issues.

    • Oh, and the port-in bonus for $49 via Telstra chat is only available to brand new Telstra customers. If you have been a customer in the past (I was 3 years ago) - you don't qualify.

    • Which JB did you do this in?
Brisbane store said the pixel trade in deal had expired.

edit: the promo ended on May 29? and all JB follow the same national promos. Dosent make sense.

      • It was at JB Chermside on Saturday 8th of June

  • I'm about to do this at Roselands,NSW

  • To be clear does the $500 gift card need to be used on a phone?

    • No, it's a JB HiFi credit that can be used on anything in store.

      • Perfect thanks.

  • No go. Telstra wanted to charge me $150 upfront because of my 'credit' :/

  • Signed up for the deal at JB Chermside and got the Gift Card bonus.

Went onto Telstra Live Chat and asked for the $49 plan option. They could offer me the $49 plan but with only 30GB data. I'm still happy though, as I don't use more than this amount anyway.

    • Telstra website is offering the $49/30gb data for $39. Check it out and hit them up.

      • Yep. I did that this morning. This was after they said no to change to the $49pm 60GB plan.

      • Where is this offer?

I am currently on $39 with 70gb + Int calls and POM. But I might move to this if I can still keep my discounts.

      • Where? its only showing me 49/mo

  • How much extra for adding on an Apple Watch?

    • +1

      $5 per month.

      • Thanks. Can I request this at JB or do I need to chat with Telstra afterwards?
