Not sure if I need or even want this but the nostalgia is strong with PS1 for me.

Honestly I am happy with the recent announcement that the Final Fantasy Soundtracks have been released on Spotify.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/461682

Square Enix are not known for making access to their game soundtracks easy for Australians.
As Aussies we are generally limited to the EU store and that store does not ship to Aus.
Apple Itunes store does not list any albums for sale when located in Australia, (change it to US and things change however)

But in a suprising move they have today uploaded almost every final fantasy soundtrack to Spotify (rummors are apple music will follow in next day or so)

For anyone (who like me) considers final fantasy games to have some of the best in game music around then jump on it.

(note most track names are in Japanese)

I still only played mine once then never again!!

    • is it really bad?

      • +1

Yeah the emulation is bad and they chose the 50 Hz pal games for some dumb reason. There are some hacks to make it better.

        39 bucks it's ok I suppose.

Worth $39 as a miniature display on the shelf?

    • +2

I got rid of all my 'real' old gen consoles and games. Too many new games to enjoy and these minis are great for the nostalgia fix, don't take up much room and they look great on a shelf.#sparkjoy

  • Other then it being in a great case, is there any advantage in terms of playing other PS1 games over a Raspberry Pi 3 or NVIDIA shield?

    • Not really. This thing has pretty similar hardware to one of the rpi models

      • Thanks. It's getting tempting at this price but might hold off for a little while longer. Curious to see if ever drops below the $20 mark!

  • Amazon just dropped their price to $51.95

    • That's the price from The Gamesmen on Amazon, the Amazon AU price is still $74 at the time of posting.

    • +2

      That's Gamesmen Amazon store.

      Amazon price is still $74

      • You are right cheers

    • That's not from Amazon but from the Gamesmen on Amazon with postage rolled into the price.

  • +3

yeah waiting for amazon, still think $39 is too high

  • Yeah was tempted for about 3 secs. had a look at the game list.
Time has not been kind to many of these.

    • Good for hacking

      • Better off with a rpi for hacking around, and better performance too!

        • +5

Sure but the controllers and nastolgia :D

Also at this price it's cheaper than an rpi setup

  • If I can get one for around $30, I might grab it & have a (hack) play, lol

    $40 is still too much.

    • +1

      hey cazman :P

better use my PC with PSX (emulator) - Free?

  • +1

Might get now just so I can claim legal copies of the ROMs inside it XD

    • eh?

    • And the bios. I couldn't figure out how to dump the PS1 bios out of my PS2.

  • +1

they just put it back to $75

    • Yup looks like it was a pricing error

    • Technically it is supposed to live from tomorrow because it is part of days of play sale. It will be back tomorrow.

  • +1

This thing is very hackable and trivially easy. Google/Youtube search Autobleem or Bleemsync. You just need a standard old USB stick. Once you hack it you can play nearly any PSX game and it emulates some other consoles well (i.e. NES).

  • Waiting for that prime hook up. Then I'll give one ago

  • Are the roms based on NTSC version or PAL version? I know one or two games even in the US one is using a PAL rom, but I want to know if all the AU region games are also based on PAL, or if we get the same roms as the US edition?

I don't want any PAL roms.

Also, Sony shot themselves in the foot not including a dual shock controller. If they had just asked a single person for feedback they would have pointed out this was a bad idea.

    • Pretty sure a whole pile from the US are pal. I remember people complaining like crazy. I think some of the mods may have fixed the problem though.

      • +1

That is awful and lazy. No wonder this thing flopped.

      • Is it possible to hack the thing and add your own ROMs to it?

        • Yes

          • @spuderump: What format do the roms need to be in? EBOOT?

            • @lostn: Bin and Cue

hardest part is finding a compatible usb

              • @qwerty: so it's picky with USB sticks?

                • @lostn: Mainly due to power limits on the front port but SanDisk USB 2.0 sticks work fine. This problem.has been solved again if you have an otg adaptor so now can use the rear power port + otg + USB stick. This let's you use both front controller ports for the pax controllers.

YouTube otg bleemsync to see a video explaining all of this.

  • needed to have a dual shock/analog controller

  • I wanted one of these

  • Just got pickup confirmation
