  • Ozbargainers who have owned an Echo Dot and a Google Home/Mini, which do you prefer and why?

sister won a google home mini, i use an alexa echo dot 2

i only use it to check the weather, ask for the time when i'm packing for the next day, and asking for my schedule sometimes

the todo list integration with alexa if you use ios reminders or google calendar is crap. i tried an IFTTT plugin but it only does a one way sync.

alexa reminders suck in general (can't delete via voice, only natively syncs with alexa app reminders and support for everything else is sorta crap)

the speaker is too crap for playing music, and i don't really use it to read the news to me, or order things off amazon

for these uses, i'm pretty sure they both extremely similar. i'm guessing with the google home it probably has better integration with todo lists and calendars?

there's some cool features like "wheres my phone" that are available via IFTTT, but only with US numbers so i haven't tried em

      • Good write up and totally agree.. Although I use the echos for music through Spotify as well. If I started again would probably go Google with the backend of their search engine. Amazon is useless at aussie sports info.

    • I have both. Depend on what service you use most. google home more like talking to person than robot. i prefer home than alexa

    • google is better at attempting to understand the meaning behind what you say while you have to be kind of specific with the structure of words you say with alexa. Simple example would be "hey google turn off all my lights" and google will do just that. Alex will say "sorry cant find the light called all lights". Only reason i have echo show and stuff is to develop skills at work.

    • I prefer the echo as it can access my office365 calendar.
I did look a while a go to see if the home mini could but couldn't get it working without a bit of effort - could be wrong now though.

  • You can also get 3months free Amazon Music Unlimited (normally 11.95 /mth) when buying this
