Xiaomi 2 is capable of 21m2, as opposed to this one at 10.6m2. It looks much bigger than the Homedic AP15AU.
Neither capture 2.5pm particles. They can only filter 3 micron particles and above. Not very good if the most damaging particles aren't filtered. Sharp and Winix are much better performers in that regard.

Xiaomi 2 does capture 2.5 micron particles as well as 0.5 micron (but not as effectively).

Yes I stand corrected. The marketing literature specifies 0.3 microns but reviews I have read (additional to your link) have pointed to poor 2.5pm removal.
The study you posted confirms poor 2.5 - .5 particulate removal. Also poorest result in comparison to all the other filters tested. Poor particulate sensor.

I would go for the Xiaomi (I have the first model). I have had air purifiers for 10 years or so and learnt the hard way that going for less popular models is a bad idea, mainly due to the scarcity (and thus incredibly high price) of filters later in the product's life.
Of course you have to make sure what you get is suitable for your needs. Some air purifiers are more specialized offering features for controlling specific issues, eg. carbon filter for smells, uv anti bacterial lights, etc.
lifetime filters ? if not, how much for replacement filters and intervals
air is pretty clean in aus, so if your buying one its prob for medical/asthma related reasons.
with that in mind cheap air purifiers are a waste of money, spend a bit more or don't bother…
Last week Sydney had 2.5pm of 110 due to back burning. That's pretty bad. Today it was around 80 (poor) in south western sydney and a whopping 429 in Richmond. These things aren't just for people who have asthma - they are useful in preventing asthma development.
Agree regarding cheap air purifiers - they may make the air smell better but don't clean the particles that can do the most damage.

Sounds like once you grow hairs elsewhere, your line of questions might be more mature considering related allergies and medical issues.
If you considering Xiao Mi, keep that in mind you cant put on manual setting running more than 3 hours. By default it will go to the lowest, most quiet setting which is same as sleep mode.
If you’re using this in a small room, that’s fine. Not big living room.
