Hi all.

Well finally Vodafone have pulled their finger out and come to the party with a late, yet decent offer to compete against the current Optus deal and recent Telstra deal.

In short, the offer is……

  • $50 per month.
  • 100 gig of endless data (Throttled once allowance used)
  • International minutes to Zone 1 and Zone 2 countries.
  • $5 roaming per day to selected countries

Should be a decent deal for those in metro, as the coverage "should" be acceptable.

That $5/day for overseas use is good. They should change their name from Vodafone to Vodaroam 😅

    • Agree!
      Vodafone = Vodafail = VodaRoam

Okay so I used this last year, was called Red Roaming, through Europe, UK, Canada and Japan, among other countries. It was decent enough, conencted most of the time, but when you use it ever day for a month, that's $150 plus the $50 per month. You can get WAYYYY better local deals than $200 per month.

Also, I had to contact them about billing issues and other technical issues, and the 24 hour support line is okay, but I had one urgent situation where the lady was extremely rude and thought I couldn't hear and called me a retarded ****… well, I complained and nothing ever came of it.

My advice is plan ahead in the countries you will use, because you can get calls and data so much cheaper these days locally.

I have upvoted the deal, but still think Optus plan is much better with international roaming included & $10 cheaper than this

      Agree

      Optus has sharing as well

    • +1

      Yeah Optus deal is better

    • Well, vodafone i think lets you use all of your data on the Red Roaming, even though it's $5 per day to access it. Whereas the Optus one here appears to only allow 4gb per month while roaming, and it's limited to Zone 1 countries, at this link: https://www.optus.com.au/shop/mobilephones/international-roa…

You can get 20% more off this cap by signing up to another optus m2m plan at the same time then cancelling the second.

      • Interesting!! Can you please shed some more light on this?

      • Interesting but more info needed please

Hi all, basically signed up via livechat and was hard sold additional services. I initially wanted a $50 m2m internet plan but was told that I could get 20% off any other contract if I signed up for two simultaneously. So I signed up for the $50 mobile deal (exactly the same as the current $40 deal above but with $150 ebay voucher at the time) and the m2m internet plan confirming the discount with the agent. Cancelled the m2m internet plan a couple of days after.

          • @turkz1: Interesting

          • @turkz1: and you are still getting 20% off your bill from first service even you have canceled your second pm2m plan

            • +1

@OzSikh: Correct the 20% off was applied for 12 months

              • +1

@turkz1: Thanks mate, might give it try. Any chance, could you PM me the chat transcript, as it would help a lot

    • Do Telstra have any comparable deals?

    • This deal is much better if you are planning to roam in zone 1 countries. Take out your sim on the first day and grab a local tourist sim package. Insert your optus sim while in transit on the way back. Or grab a dual sim phone and get the best of both worlds. Use that 4GB wisely though.

100GB unthrottled! (some plans limit to ADSL speed)
Good if you can't get NBN yet.

Happily paid the exit fee to go from Voda back to telstra, never going back. They could offer 500gb, honestly makes no difference as Its just too congested in Sydney. Mind you Voda hit good speeds when i did a trip to Adelaide.

    • And that's why they are cheaper, isn't it?

  • What a time to be alive!

  • Optus/virgin still my favourite, my passable s8 gets 190mbps inside the house.

    • You can hit 300mbps with Telstra.

      • So you can what? Download your software updates 2 minutes sooner?

        • +2

          Actually, yes.

  • Contacted Voda on this last week and it's expired. No other alternative deal even close. I called Voda and they wouldn't honour any past offer. Would ask OP if possible to mark expired?

      • Thanks. I saw that which prompted me to look for Voda deals again. Was keen but sadly (and ironically) both Optus and Telstra have terrible service in my house. Voda works fine. Who'd have guessed!

        • Yeah I'm the same. Telstra's ok but patchy, Optus is just crap all the time. Voda always good.

          • @0jay: Just to share the deal I agreed with Voda.

            • 2 x 50gb plans (100gb) shared for $40/m each. 12m contract
            • 1 x 100/40 NBN unl. for $69/m for 6m (normally $89). No contract, but modem subsidy of $5/m continues
            • 10% off all, for $36/m mobile and $60.10 NBN 100
Total $133.10 for all three services

As mobile plan is a low price, if Voda match or beat Optus by including roaming or data, I can upgrade mobile plans within 12m period as long as the new plan list price is higher.

Decent deal for our needs I reckon and best I can see on NBN100 by a long way. Little to no evening slowdown on NBN in my area

            • @TheLurker: How do you get through 2x50GB mobile when you have unlimited at home?

              • @0jay: Good question. We don't get through it.

Usage on past plans was around 6gb each outside home. I'm planning on travelling a lot for work in coming months so expect that to increase a lot with tethering, but 100gb is more than enough.

Past cap breakage cost $10 per gb so worth sitting on plans higher than needed to avoid extra cost.

And current Voda next lowest plan has only 5gb for $35. 10x data for less than a cup of coffee a month makes more sense
