Will wait to see the new XPS 15 model getting announced in a week or so. From what I understand XPS 15 has had upgradeable RAM option in previous models. I think it also has better graphics processor. But again, depends on individual needs I guess.

    • RTX2050 was the rumor. Which was supposed to be equivalent to 1060.

      • Which was supposed to be equivalent to 1060.

I guess it can be 1650, I think 1660 will be too much throttle for XPS 15 chassis design.

      • There is no rtx2050, it has to be either 1650ti or 1660

        • There is no rtx2050

Not yet. But in future, who knows.

We are talking about notebook GPUs not desktop.

I'm almost certain it won't be a 1660. Not in this chassis.

          • @lostn: it wouldn’t make sense because the 2060 barely handles ray tracing

            • @Freestyle: It's for perception more than anything. The uneducated see 2060 as a big step up from 1660. That's a whole 400.

              • @lostn: I guess, we’ll see

I’m gonna buy a notebook/ultrabook soon, hope something good comes out

  • I managed to get the 1TB Win10 Pro 4k version of the 9380 a couple of months ago on eBay for $2389 delivered. Still haven't seen anything close to that since. I must have got the bargain of the century. These new XPS laptops are great, so slim and light too.

What's the batter life like? That's always been the annoying thing on the past 3 laptops I've had all with 4k screens. I'm thinking of going back to normal screens now.

Edit, here's a review showing the battery life with the 4k screen is just as bad as other laptops. The FHD screen last 13 hours instead of the 8 for the 4k. In real life with periods of high load you'll never get 8 hours. I get about 4 with my gen 6 X1 Carbon HDR screen

      https://www.notebookcheck.net/Dell-XPS-13-9380-i7-8565U-4K-U…

      • I would be impressed if you actually got 13 hours with the FHD. I never get close to what is advertised or what other people get in their tests.

      • Yep as expected battery life isn't anything special, but I never use my laptop unplugged for 4+ hours anyway so it's not a big deal to me. If battery life is a priority then yeah I would definitely suggest getting the FHD model. This 4k screen nice though!

      • It is almost impossible and not useable to use XPS13 on 4k res with the laptop itself. The only time you would use 4k is when you connect to an external display and when you do connect to an external display you would most probably have the charger connect. I don't see the point of people commenting on battery life with 4K. Makes no sense to me because when you're out and about, your 4k screen would be on 1080p res.

  • I am desperate to grab one of these. I would have pulled the trigger if that was the 4K version.

    • If you want touchscreen you need to go 4K. FHD is non-touch and UHD is touch. The best deal for the 4K version I've seen so far is $2285. With the Dell EOFY sale + additional 5% off promo code + Cashrewards bringing it down to $2285. This deal is no longer available now.

Managed to snag a refurbished XPS 13 9370, i7 8550U, 8GB RAM, 256GB HDD for $1169 off eBay two weeks ago ($1299 before discount).

Got lucky as they had it listed as a 9360 i5 initially but I caught that the new rose gold colour scheme didn't come out until the 9370 and it actually said i7 on the description. Took the punt (as this was a good deal for even an i5) and sure enough got an absolute steal.

Build quality is phenomenal on these things but please be mindful of the size of a 13inch laptop before pulling the trigger. I have known multiple people that have picked up an XPS 13 who have buyers remorse because they saw all the positive reviews but didn't consider how much smaller these are than a standard 15 inch laptop.

This might be too small to use as your primary gaming or media device without a desk/monitor/TV set-up.
