Free: 16,000 High-Quality Sound Effects for Personal, Educational or Research Purposes @ BBC

1200

Lying in my tent and listening to the waves pounding against the coast and the rain drops on the tent made me think of this deal. Been over a year since it was posted so thought I'd share it for those that didn't know about it.

These 16,000 BBC Sound Effects are made available by the BBC in WAV format to download for use under the terms of the RemArc Licence. The Sound Effects are BBC copyright, but they may be used for personal, educational or research purposes, as detailed in the license.

For commercial use, you can license sound effects.

Credit to TA for the title.

In Australia, any copying of copyright is ok for educational or research purposes anyway. At least they're being explicit that it's ok.

    • Specifically, this is called 'fair dealing' in Australia.

Hey guys, this website seems to suggest that you are NOT allowed to copy certain things, even as a teacher:

      https://www.copyright.com.au/licences-permission/educational…

      • It's expected that we can use "reasonable portions".

But if you're referring to the BBC website:

        • Thanks for the "reasonable portions" comment, that was one of the reasons I linked to that site. (I still think it's worth reading, as there are nuances and situations where it doesn't seem to apply.)

I wasn't replying in this case to the OP's offer, but the comment that ANY copying is okay, which looks like a misunderstanding (and one I think I've come across in schools before).

Bookmarked. Can't have too many fart noises. Cheers OP.

  • So you are human.

Thanks. Public domain material is always appreciated in a copyright/patent obsessed world. Sharing is caring.

Years ago I remember creating sound themes for Windows XP using sound effects I had extracted from various games I owned. WinXP was the best Microsoft OS for cosmetic tweakers, you could even change the boot screen. Windows Blinds is still available for newer OSes if you wish to reskin your OS, though some programs with certain skins have bugs (visibility issues is certain regions).

Years ago I remember creating sound themes for…

So you're remembering this now, or it was years ago when you did the remembering and this is just a recollection of that experience?

Is this like a terrible version of teachers trying to correct useless English? "You CAN go to the bathroom but MAY you? hmmmm"

I feel someone needs to stand up for the correct use of the English language, especially when Donald Trump can't even spell 'achomlishments' correctly.

          • @dm01: I'm not even a little bit surprised someone like you took only two comments to somehow complain about Trump.

        • I do this, because 95% of the time they don't really need to go.

  • Was watching Interstellar and this is exactly what came to my mind (theres a scene where the guy is listening to all the sounds from Earth)! Brilliant repository.

  • Wow, this is especially great for me, as for my uni sound assignment, we have to put sound to an old silent film, and there were a few effects that I couldn't recreate or get.
Unfortunatly I didn't find this a week earlier, as it is due tomorrow.
    Thanks OP

You finished before the due date? Hand in your uni student license.

  • Has anyone been able to download the entire archive?
