Free Access to Optus Sport for the FIFA Women's World Cup 2019 for School Children

320

From the 23rd of May, Optus is providing Australian School Children with complimentary access to Optus Sport, so they can watch the entire FIFA Women’s World Cup 2019™. (*Note from OP: Might even be good for the UCL Final!)

How do I get or redeem a voucher?

If you don’t have a voucher yet, find your nearest Yes Optus Store and talk to one of our staff to claim your voucher before 9 July. Visit https://sport.optus.com.au/campaign to redeem your voucher and create your Optus Sport Account. You will need an email address to redeem so check with your parent or guardian before entering your email to create an account.

Am I eligible?

Australian school children under the age of 20 are eligible for this offer. If you are under 17, you’ll need to have an adult with you when you visit the store to claim your voucher. Alternatively, if you are aged between 17 and 19 you can present a form of identification which verifies your date of birth.

Hopefully they’ll stuff up again and I’ll get to renew my free Fetch mini for another 12 months.

    • +1 have to return mine next month I think. as its been 12 months :/

      • I asked Optus and if the Fetch Mini given out during the World Cup is not returned before the 12 months free expires - there will be a charge of $5 per month going forward for the unit.

        • Yeah so mine ends on the 30th June, so I have to contact them before then to end the contract and return the device by then sending me a box I guess

Do you really think demand for the women's world cup will be anywhere near the demand that caused the mens tournament broadcast to be overloaded and fail at optus's end?

  • I got an email code from Virgin for 12 months free access too…

Possibly because I ported one of my numbers and they didn't want to to move the other?

So if you get a voucher tomorrow, can you activate it immediately and have access from tomorrow until 9th July?

If so, you can watch the UEFA Champions League final next weekend.

If not, you can't start watching for another few weeks when the world cup starts (7th June).

Edit: Just got on the Optus chat - apparently you can use it straight away.

  • Wonder if it will be active for the champions league final?

    • Yes

Women's football free to school children, the demand in this will be through the roof. Women's football is on par with under 12 boys. I'm not sexist, I would not want to watch both equally.

  • Well, I went to an Optus store today, and they didn't have a clue about this. They did have some Optus Sports world cup charts. They told me to go on Optus Live Chat. They also didn't have a clue, so I sent them the URL for the promotion. They told me to call a 1800 number, who also could not help, and said that I needed to go back to the store, and get the store to call them. Lol.

    • Wow I hope you still got it in the end.

      • Yes, I did get it in the end. There was a 1800 number on the offer web page, and it says that if you do not live near a store, to call that number, and press option 2. They didn't have a clue, and they just kept passing me on to someone else. Finally, I got someone who didn't know, but took the time to find out, and I ended up with the SMS voucher.

I called in today and they didn't have a clue either. They tried to pass the buck until I brought up the web page which clearly stated that you have to call in to an Optus shop to collect a code.
It then became too hard for the staff member so called a store manager to deal with this and eventually he logged onto the store computer and generated a voucher code via SMS after I had given him my phone number. It literally took about 30 seconds once they knew what they were doing…

Anyway, pleased to say it is working and I can now watch the 2 European cup finals later this week… Or should I say that my child can :-)

  • What exactly are they asking for? As in school ID?

  • Still working today even though it says before the 9th.
