not available to watch on other streaming services currently. https://www.justwatch.com/au/movie/joika

now 99c to Rent at AppleTV (was $6.99 to rent until now).

😃 I have wanted to watch this ever since it came out (swear it was added to AppleTV during 2nd half of last year in 2024 but everywhere says it's a 2023 movie).
story about the American ballerina who trained/got into the famous Moscow Bolshoi theatre.

you get 30 days to watch the movie after you rent it, and 48 hours to watch the movie if you click to play and start the movie.

New Zealand and Polish production apparently. (director/writer is from New Zealand).
Alternate title: The American.

American ballet dancer Joy Womack is accepted into Moscow's infamously tough Bolshoi Ballet Academy, with the dream of becoming a great ballerina.

Mum can we see the new Joker movie?
Mum: We have Joiker at home

    joika at home

    • the real joker is the Folie a Deux movie where people wanting to see the 2nd movie after the first Joker get tricked into watching a 2 hour+ long musical. 😂

      • I haven't seen the second one yet, but I am so (profanity) here for a Lady Gaga x Joker musical. The first movie was fine but it was so far up it's own ass it was right there with Bradley Cooper begging for an Oscar. I wouldn't have given a shit about a sequel, they added Gaga which piqued my interest a little, then the musical stuff definitely got my interest, think we missed the baby session at the local cinema and just forgot about it, then it came to streaming hella quick and never got around to it.

Maybe this weekend I'll get around to it. We'll have a couple hours kid free courtesy of mother in law babysitting Saturday night after Green Day. I'll come back here on Sunday and see if I failed myself again.

        • well if you are into musicals you will have a great time.

I just thought the popular demographic that loved the first one would want nothing to do with watching the 2nd one. 😂

          just my opinion of course.

          • @n3ck3ntry8bort0rgasm: Oh yeah, for sure. Thing for me, like, I enjoyed the first one, but it really just seems like they had this script, figured it would make more money if they pivoted it into being the Joker, and then, made it into the Joker. It's fine, I enjoy it and could happily watch it whenever, but I wouldn't call myself a fan of it by any stretch.

Regardless of musicals (I can't say I enjoy musicals as in every one I've seen, but I do enjoy a good musical, Blues Brothers, Team America, there's plenty of movies you don't think of as musicals that half the movie is the soundtrack you know?, anyway…) in general, I appreciate that they at least seem to went in another direction with the sequel rather than playing it safe.

I enjoyed the new Captain America, I've seen it twice even, once on opening night and once again at the baby session with the missus and 2 y/o, but as much as I enjoyed it, that movie is the definition of playing it safe, and as a result, it won't be super memorable in 5/10 years tbh.
