Have you upgraded to 2.2 yet?

That will fix it (known issue with 2.1), but if you don't wanna upgrade (although why I wouldn't know), there is a workaround! ;)

    • Stewballs: i have upgraded to 2.2 since the day i got it :) brilliant tab.. haha.. good way to test around.. hopefully some1 has the same prb and have the solution~

      • Yep, we had exactly the same problem under 2.1! Try this, go to wireless settings -> Wireless and network settings -> Wi-fi settings, then settings button and choose advanced ->Regulatory domain; and choose 14 channels! That worked for both of the V9's that I setup under 2.1, and the problem never returned after the 2.2 upgrade!

Failing that, just change the wifi channel on your router, that may help. Hope so anyways. Yeah, these things were a great buy at $149, they're an absolute steal at $99 IMHO! Enjoy! :)

P.S. Have you found the "Mobile AP" setting you were searching for yet? (hint, hint) :)

    • WiFi Dropouts

Just download, install and reboot with "Blade Wifi Fix" from the market. 9 times out of 10, that will keep things working by cycling the wifi when you turn it on and the app recognises the the wifi not working.

BTW, this is common across a wide range of android devices, its deep in the way Android talks and certain routers listen.

or try app "Advanced WiFi Lock Free"

Here's a useful link to pimp this new toy: http://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/zte_tablet_v9_optus

  • Any info of how to overclock/undervoltage? I'm pretty happy with performance except vid playback and some lags in games. Overclock may make it better. Any info/link will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

So, now that I already got the mytab, just wondering where can I buy the protective cover (or whatever it's called) for the myTab?

Can't find any thru google or ebay?

    • +4

Here's the list on ebay. These cases are for the 7" Zte v9 (but they're aren't OEM)
      http://shop.ebay.com.au/?_from=R40&_trksid=m570&_nkw=zte+v9&…

I went with the leather one (without the elastic straps, they're ugly! Please tell us which ones you like (if any).

Post from billy way back about GPS car navigation with full voice guidance. Can someone tell me what software involved and where to download it ? Possibly from android market ? I will have delivery of the tablet in a couple of days and I want to upgrade to 2.2 and start using the GPS feature as soon as I can. Appreciate your advices.
To get into android market, I need to do following :
    Manu>setting>applications>manage applications>all>market.
Am I on the right track ? Thanks.

    • it's already installed, go to apps and it the blue arrow thingy
android market widget is on the home screen

    • +1

Hey etwu, Android Market is one of the apps on the home page on my Tab!
I would recommend you first upgrade to 2.2 via this link:
      www.optus.com.au/mytabupgrade
      Then update Google maps:
Go to Market > Search for Google Maps > Select Update > OK
(This fixes a known Google Navigation issue)
Voice guidance can be downloaded from Android market, it came up as a pop up when I first opened the Maps application. Hope this helps ;)

Hey Steviee & Billy_bob. Thankyou guys. Couldn't wait to get my hand on it and have fun. Cheers.

Hi, Will the map work offline (without data or wifi, just GPS turned on?). There are 2 map options there: google maps and navigation (blue arrow), which one is better and can work offline? Thanks much.

      • +2

They are all online you will need to download another app

I downloaded IGO last night and downloaded the latest Australian/NZ Maps. Also the Asian ones. Havent tested it fully, but looks pretty good. You can download maps from all over the world and put it on the SD card. Sharon

Ordered from Optus online for $99, got an email confirmation with order number but my CC has not been charged and when I try to track the order it says no such order. Anyone else have this problem?

    • same, i ordered at 7:30am yesterday. Got email confirmation and SMS pretty much straightaway, but CC not charged as last night, and can not track my order from Aus Post.

    • i ordered around 8:30am yesterday. Got the email confirmation, no SMS, but my CC has been charged. Cant track the order yet tho…

      • +1

I also ordered yesterday morning, have the email, no sms and a pending charge on the credit card, and can't track…

        • +1

Placed an order yesterday (>24 hours ago). Tracking Number Not Working, no SMS:

Optus Delivery said that it would take till tomorrow, 48 hours total from purchase time, for the item to leave the warehouse.(may take up to a week due to demand). Online tracking is available once the product has left the warehouse. http://optus.messengerpostcouriers.com.au
Same thing for the SMS/phone call.

In any case call the number if you have any concerns, Esp. if you haven't received any response whatsoever (Ie. your Confirmation Email, and CC Billing on your Bank Account)
1300 308 730 (Dial 2 then 3 then 2) and then get patched through to the Customer Delivery.

      • Same here royal_ten. I'm hoping it's just due to the massive flood of orders they've likely received.

      • +2

if you guys are 1st timer with optus, they will need to call you to perform an ID check before processing the order.
So DO pick up that private call!

      • just got an email from optus (after i sent an email enquiry through the website) saying that it will be shipped tomorrow(fri) and will arrive within 1 business day…sweet…gave me a different tracking number tho which was odd.

    • +1

i ordered mine online yesterday around 6pm, and at around 8PM i received a call from Optus confirming some detail, like my home phone number. The staff told me if my credit card past credit check i should expect the delivery in 3 to 5 days.

looked at the website again, optus is out of stock already, i don't know if i secured one.

the confirmation email stated tracking of your order would take up to 24 hrs to be reflected on the tracking site.

  • Hey all, what kind of VOLUME output are you getting at maximum? Seems quite soft.
If you are in the SE Melbourne area, try these stores in this order first - Dick Smith, Australia Post, Big W, Optus World. Big thanks to Australia post for jumping the gun and dropping prices on Monday and for forum contributors for informing about this!

    • houpaeng> "Hey all, what kind of VOLUME output are you getting at maximum?"

I assume you mean when playing music? It's low, best to use headphones or plug into an amp.
When playing Angry Birds it is very loud so that proves it is capable of higher volume.
Now if we could make it play music at that volume it would be better.
I wonder it there is any difference with other media players?

      • +1

after flash the CyanogenMod 7 (Gingerbread 2.3.4), you have a DSP manager which can be used to solve this volume problem.

Hi all, I'm wondering that since Android already had its HoneyComb(Android 3.0),
    why not upgrade to 3.0?

I'm thinking that most people would wonder to know that.
And is it possible to do that?
And who had tried to do it?

    Cheers

    • No one interested????

      • +2

HC hasn't been released by Google to the open source community (as I'm aware).
However there is a preview version out & about by deeper_blue(?).

I heard that Google won't be releasing HC but will bundle with something and release it with ice cream sandwich.

        • @samackus did you just make that up ?

    • try google it, one of the barrier is the cpu on this tab

    • +2

This is not the sort of device that HoneyComb targets.
The MyTab is really a phone with a bigger screen, but same number of pixels.

HoneyComb is for bigger devices with more pixels and faster CPU.

    • No source code for that.
Even you have source code, you need some dev to build a firmware for this device.
Currently the CyanogenMod 7 is an unofficial build, lacks dev.
(Also I don't see there's anyone building CyanogenMod for Telstra T-Touch.)

  • How can I uninstall the pre-installed Optus applications? I don't need 70% of them,. I can see that I can uninstall my self installed apps but not Optus pre-install. Thanks.

    • By rooting it!, read more of the posts to find out how

      • +1

Thanks, There are 2 links how to root it:

        http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blade-blade-modaco-com…

        and

        http://android.modaco.com/content/other/340064/rom-gingerbre…

Which one should I follow? Thanks.

In the latter link, it doesn't have a specific instruction/link for rooting. Only upgrading to 2.3.4? Thanks for help.

        • +1

what are the advantages of rooting, other than dumping the optus crap ?

        • +1

One is a root software the other is operating system upgrade, to uninstall the optus applications you will need to root it.

If you want to upgrade the operating system then choose the rom option

You would have to be crazy to upgrade this to honeycomb unless you really want it to be unreliable, upgrade through the zte site to 2.2 and be happy

        • +1

use the former link, it's easy
          1. Download the file and copy it to your sd card
          2. Download APK manager from Android market
          3. Run APK Manager and browse the Apk file from your SD and install it.
          4. After installing, run the zte4root from the list of programs in your launcher and click Root permanently.

        • Nope not honeycomb… But may be gingerbread… If i have the guts to experiment with my 1 day old tab… :)

          to steviee: http://lifehacker.com/5342237/five-great-reasons-to-root-you…

Five great reasons to root your android phone

On the point of uninstall bloatware comes from Optus (apply to Android phone):
You'd better 'freeze' them but not uninstall them.
Uninstall them might make it won't be updateable via the Optus official update package (if they ever will release anything new which I don't think so.)
By freeze pre-installed system apps, the system will not see them anymore, result is same as uninstall, and you can still upgrade via the official way.

  • +3

Registered to say thanks for putting this up. Grabbed one from Auspost yesterday and is pretty impressive for the money!

  • +2

BTW, just my 2 cents. I have both Galaxy tab and mytab.

I agree that performance and look&feel-wise, SGT blows mytab by far. <Hence my plan to overclock>.

However, Battery-wise Mytab is far more superior than SGT? I have similar setting for both. SGT draining too much juice in short time, but not mytab even for similar tasks. May be since mytab has lower cpu?

Anyway, with price of 1/3 of the SGT, Mytab has been performing really well. Wish I got the batch with front facing cam :) But I got the free case so I can't complain. :)

    • +2

Andri> "Anyway, with price of 1/3 of the SGT,"

Bang for the buck is what it's all about and the mytab is clearly # 1 there. Now the question is when will they be $49? :-)

Mikinoz> " upgrade through the zte site to 2.2 and be happy"

      Good advice !

      • $49 bucks for mtab? I'm more inclined with the question of $149 for SGT or even $99?

      • $49:
the Vodafone Pocket wifi with 3GB data is selling for $79 (half price at PO and Big W), and it only runs for 4 hours. This tab is $99 with 3GB data from Optus, with Android 2.2 or 2.3, you can do same WIFI hotspot and it runs for 8~10 hours. Also this tab can tether GPS signal to other devices.

  • Now showing out of stock at optus online…….

  • listening to the mp3 player it sounds like it has no bass at all :(

    • +3

      Use earphones….

  • So…. how long until Telstra drops the price on the T-Touch Tab?

    • +4

Why would you even want one :O

  • -3

Will Optus drop their price for the samsung galaxy tab?

    • the new version will be cheap maybe even cheaper than older version of of the galaxy tab….

  • Just rooted my V9 and installed CM7…performance is much better then the stock 2.2…

    Going to overclock it now…

    • Cool. Do you mind share a tutorial for doing that? I am not dumb. I have rooted and installed a custom ROM for Galaxy. But i spent the whole night last night and could not figure out how to do this for myTab :( I just couldn't find a detailed guide. Cheers.

      • +1

        Its all on here:

        http://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/zte_tablet_v9_optus
        http://android.modaco.com/content/other/340064/rom-gingerbre…

        Instructions: http://www.mediafire.com/?f0pf5ppfruec3v8
        Tools required: http://www.mediafire.com/?gyd42g574to7kc7

        CM7 mod (latest release):

        http://android.modaco.com/content-page/340064/rom-gingerbrea…

download the instructions (or the v9 tools zip - there's a docx in there) and follow it. Pretty simple.

download the v9 toolzip, the latest CM7 release, and the Oneclickrecovery apk from the links above. put them all on your microSD (I just stuck them all under "documents". then follow the instructions provided in the doc. While your at it you might as well grab the "google apps" package zip from that forum (top post) and put that on the microSD as well - saves you from having to take out your SD card again. You can try bluetoothing the files over but I had issues with that…

Make sure you unzip the files for the apks (z4root, recoverymanagerbeta) as I'm not sure if android has native zip file support.

The only deviation I had from the instructions is after running recoverymanager, I didn't have a recovery rom to boot to. So I installed the oneclickrevoeryv9.apk and that did it for me. Once that's rebooted into recovery mode you can make a backup of your image and then load the Cm7 zip file.

Don't blame me if you screw up!

        • Thanks a lot ironpaw. I will give that a shot tonight. All credit goes to you if i succeed :-}

        • +2

I've gone back to 2.2 after doing that. The touchscreen calibration along with incompatibility with a few apps forced me to.

  • +1

I ordered online at noon AEST on 1/6/11 and confirmed with Optus today that mine are on backorder. So heads up guys, you may not be getting them for a week or so (No ETA).

    • did you get an email or did you phone them about being on back order—thanks

  • Just been told by Big W - Sold out state wide in SA… wish i grabbed mine yesterday when i had the chance. grr

  • Scored another one (last one) from the phone shop for my friend, flashed CyanogenMod 7.1 RC0 on to 3 of them, all good.
    If you are new to Android, stay with the Optus official 2.2 Upgrade. 2.2 is a lot fast than the 2.1;
Later you should upgrade to CyanogenMod 7.1, it's Gingerbread 2.3.4, a whole new world.

    • any cons of upgrading to the custom ROM? any function not working on the V9?

      • -1

haven't see any cons yet, all working nice since the ZTE Blade is officially supported by CyanogenMod, this Light is just a large screen version of the ZTE Blade phone.

With CyanogenMod 7.1, the screen as quite responsive, reaching the feel of capacitive screen, especially while typing using the new keyboard. Overclocked the AHB Bus, seems to gain a bit more speed, 10%

The front VGA Camera still not working, guess no driver or the built in camera software doesn't support it. (It's not the light sensor, I can count how many holes there one or two.)

One problem: while wake up from sleep, the connected WIFI before went to sleep might won't automatically connect back. Seems a problem exists even in the official 2.2 rom, install the
'Blade WIFI Fix' from market to solve this problem.

My flash steps: see post #117
        http://android.modaco.com/content-page/340064/rom-gingerbrea…

Donated some beer money to the author of this fimrware builder, hope something better will come.

        • There is an option Remember passsword when you type wifi password

        • To TAN: You sure? As far as I know, Android doesn't let you 'remember password' while doing it, it remembers by default, the choice is 'show password'.

        • which app are you using to oc the device?

        • to ironpaw: install the AHB Bus overclocking kernel from the modaco thread, 10% performance increase. No cpu frequency overclock available yet.

  • +1

Well I just called up Optus, as I never received the follow-up call some here have said is meant to happen, and ended up getting a run-around from the CSR..

    To quote the CSR…
"I'm afraid there's been a massive disruption in the order process, a technical disruption"
"as many as a thousand customers who have ordered a new product have been affected"
"no timeframe available for when the glitch that is affecting these orders will be fixed"
"delivery time for some orders will be from 4-6 weeks"

So basically, if you ordered online from Optus, be prepared to have to chase it up, I ordered online yesterday at 9:30am, got the confirmation email and they took the money. Still nothing with the order tracking #.
Personally, I think they didn't prepare for an onslaught of orders and ran out of stock long before the website was changed to reflect this.

    • +2

i only ordered shortly before you (8:30am) and i just got a response from optus saying that mine will ship tomorrow.
Try sending an message via the contact us part of the website with your confirmation number and see what response you get…they replied to me in about 15mins…

      • I tried that about 3 hours ago, still no response, I think I went through sales then product inquiry, was that the option you used?

        • i think i did:
          Personal/contact us/sales enquiry/email us

      • I ordered mine around 9:30am and also got the email at 2:16pm today saying it will be shipped on 3/06/2011.

        • I ordered at around 2pm after sending an email in contact us/ sales enquiry got a phone call today where i was told to expect the tab to come in next week as they're being shipped on monday :)

  • +1

Optus called me and said for security they want to confirm some personal details (only done for certain orders), once that was done I got an SMS with an order number and a phone number (1300300562) to call if I have queries regarding the order. Hopefully I get one, but I won't be TOO disappointed if I don't as like many others here, I got sucked into the OzB power to make people buy useless things just coz it's a bargain! ;)

  • +1

Just talked to a nice lady from Optus (online order support) and confirmed that it out of stock - I order around noon yesterday. She said it will be order and probably available to be delivery from next week.

You save time (and petrol) by order online but got to wait. Oh well, not really urgently need it anyway.

  • Just got this email after calling Optus asking why I can't track my order. I placed an order at 7:30am yesterday.

THIS IS AN AUTOMATED MESSAGE. PLEASE DO NOT REPLY TO THIS EMAIL.

This email is from Optus Online Sales Support to advise you that your OMB My Tab Prepaid B will be shipped on 3/06/2011.

This Order will be on track to you within 1 business day from this date.

To track your delivery, please visit www.optus.com.au/track and enter order number xxxxxxxx.

    We apologise for any inconvenience.

    Regards.

So shipped tomorrow, I guess I won't get it till Monday then, sigh…was hoping to play with it on the weekend, oh well…

  • +1

Just back from the Optus shop in Puckles Street MooneePonds Vic, they have just taken a delivery and had 6 left still selling at $99

    • Does it have the front camera and comes with a case by any chance?

      • +1

No just the standard 3gb sim pack

  • Hi Guys, so are you saying that Optus Mytab ZTE V9 never actually had the FRONT CAM? So, how come some people got it with the FRONT CAM? Please update me on that. I bought mine but I havn't opened it yet.

    • +1

I think they do have one with a front facing camera, I would like to know what else these models have as I think the v9 might vary, I have seen some sites say that it has 1GB of ram but the default optus mytab has only 512mb.

Here is a picture of the v9 with a front facing camera.
      http://hotmid.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/9df78e…

      • Must be the v9 light, its way different than the mytab/blade

        • Agreed. Mine has two 'holes' near the ZTE logo, but not inline like that.

      • The places showing 1Gb are probably counting the 512mb of ROM…

  • +1

Hey guys, this is a little unrelated, but if you go to the Market app on your tab, search games for a game called 'Alchemy'… if you thought your Tab alone was addictive, you should see this game. I've been glued to the tab for hours and I've barely bothered with anything else on it yet

It's lots of fun, give it a go!

EDIT: Download the free version, it's the same as the paid but with really small ads.

    • Thanks for that… as if I am not hooked on Anry Birds enough to need another addictive game LOL !! :-)
